SEASON RECAP
The Queen’s baseball team put forth a competitive season all year coming out with a 5-13 finish in the OUA league. The Gaels, despite a losing record, played much better ball than their record might show. The team suffered several one and two-run losses, which ultimately left Queen’s on the outside of the playoff picture.
RESULTS • 5-13 in OUA for 8th place TEAM AWARDS • MVP: Matthew Plut, Tyler Whealy • Rookie of the Year: William Langford
The season did have its bright spots, however. Queen’s managed to sweep a strong McMaster team for the second year in a row. The Gaels also earned big wins against strong programs of Laurier, Toronto and Ryerson, all of whom were playoff teams.

SEASON RECAP
2015-16 featured a youthful team, to say the least, and every experience was almost a new one for the Gaels. This summer the team attended three training camps. Among them was the well renowned Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) Summer Camp. It was the first time in five years that the Gaels had gone. Queen’s had world-class trainers teaching them advanced stunting and state of the art techniques. The team left the camp prepared for the competition season.
RESULTS • 2nd at Power Cheerleading Association Nationals (Collegiate Large Co-ed Level 6)
TEAM AWARDS • MVP: Kelsey Won • Rookie of the Year: Matthew Frosst
This season the team performed at three competitions, two of which were on consecutive weekends. The first competition was Breath of Life, an event new to the club. The Gaels had a great run and it served as a great introduction for the team members that had never competed before. Breath of Life was amazing preparation for PCA Nationals - the largest Canadian collegiate Cheerleading competition - the upcoming weekend. Queen’s came second in their division, which is a great accomplishment considering the age and experience of the team. The team ended their season strong in Kingston, at CheerEvo’s March Madness, in front of an energetic home crowd.

With a strong group of riders, including more than a quarter of the team having their first university mountain bike racing experience, the Gaels entered the season with high hopes once again. The opening race of the season came at Hardwood Hills where the pouring rain made for a fun and slightly scary race. Queen’s riders were on the podium six times, setting the Gaels up with a solid lead. At the Mansfield Outdoor Centre, the Gaels were set for three races over two days – an eliminator, a time trial, and an XC race. Queen’s came home with seven medals, four of which were for the top spots. The third race was Albion Hills a fast course on a day with clear blue skies made for an amazing race. Queen’s was on the top of the podium in three out of four divisions, and the Gaels were able to go into the final weekend with a comfortable lead in the standings. At Ganaraska Forest, the team didn’t let up. Queen’s won all four overall divisions – the first time in University Cup history that a school has achieved such an accomplishment. The Gaels took home the provincial title for the 6th consecutive year, with the next closest school nearly 500 points behind.

SEASON RECAP
The Queen’s added four new players this season which improving on the amount of depth to the Gaels Roster. Queen’s battled injuries, rain and cold weather and ended up with eight wins and eight losses in 8th place going into the championship tournament. The Gaels bettered their regular season finish, keeping the 5th place Lancers from moving out of pool play with two wins and a loss in round-robin play. Queen’s had more runs against the Western Mustangs in one game than they had against them combined all season. The tricolour gave the first-place Mustangs a run for their money in every game they played, having the closest games with the Mustangs out of all teams in the league. Queen’s had a batting lineup for the books, scoring 118 runs in just 20 games. Although the Fastpitch offence was, at times, unstoppable, the Gaels had difficulty keeping their opponents off the board as well. With diving stops and catches, the Gaels turned double plays, cutting the opponents scores down as much as possible. With the club losing two key players at the end of this season, Queen’s will look to improve on a 0.500 record in the coming year.

Queen’s captured the OUA banner for the third consecutive season with the following results: gold and silver in individual foil, silver in individual sabre, gold in team foil, silver in team sabre and 4th in team épeé. Men’s Fencing experienced successes throughout their season. This season marks the sixth consecutive OUA championship won by a team from the Fencing Club. Earlier in the season, club members produced strong results at every competition and earned second place in the RMC cup—a trophy that recognizes strength and depth in a university or private fencing club. In 2015-16, Queen’s Fencing had over 100 members, with 75 of them holding Canadian Fencing Federation competitive licenses. The continuing record Queen’s Fencing would not have been possible without the enduring and loyal support of Fencing’s alumni and friends.

SEASON RECAP
The 2015 Season started with high expectations fielding a lineup of veterans along with rookies motivated to make a jump in the standings. A solid 2-0 start with victories over Ottawa and Trent gave way to losses at the hands of league champions McGill and Bishops to make the mid-season record 2-4. Big victories over Trent, Carleton and Ottawa helped finish the season off with six straight wins. However, it came at a cost with injuries to numerous players going into a first round playoff matchup with Trent. With two close wins in the regular season against them, it would be yet another close affair. Trent started the game strong and took an early lead going into the second half. A hard fought comeback attempt fell just short in the final minutes losing 10-8. A tough loss to take, though it will be used as motivation to compete in next years Final 6 once again. This class of 4th-year graduates has accumulated more Wins, Points and All-Canadian AllStars than any class before them, helping the team grow into a consistent threat in the league ranks while paving the way and creating a culture for future classes to follow for years to come.

The season culminated in the Eastern Canadian Championships and OUA championships both hosted by Nakkertok Ski Club in Cantley, Que. At the OUA championships, Colin Foley led the men’s side to a 4th place finish improving on their 5th place performance from a year ago. Foley also became the first Queen’s skier in several years to be recognized as an OUA All-Star, finishing the 3-race weekend as the 6th overall skier. Marlee Sauder was the top racer on the women’s team in every race of the season and after a strong showing at the OUA championship helped the women to a 6th place finish. This year the team asked for more commitment from the top performing athletes than ever before, and progressed with results in Canada and America. The three major classes the team competed in this season were the dinghy singlehanded laser class, dinghy doublehanded 420 class and the big keelboat class. The laser sailors competed in the US circuit and came just short of qualifying at the MAISA regional championship to compete in the US National singlehanded championship. The double-handed sailors also came short of qualifying into the competitive regional championship on the US circuit, however, the hard training paid off on the Canadian sailing circuit where the team won both the national fleet and team racing championships in 420s. Additionally, Queen’s won the national championships in big keelboats, making the Gaels the first of any school in Canada to be able to secure the Canadian Sailing triple crown of fleet racing, team racing and big boats. This confirmed the school’s supremacy in Canadian Sailing and also qualified the big boat sailors to compete in the Student Yachting World Cup in France for next season.

SEASON RECAP
The Queen’s Varsity Triathlon Club showed exceptional dedication and achievement during practices, competitions, and community events throughout the 2015-16 season. The club’s season began by hosting a successful Wolfe Island Duathlon in October. Queen’s went on to capture victories at the Western Invitational, Swim Row Go, and Hart House events, which ultimately led to Triathlon receiving the University Multisport Title. The highlight of the club’s season was the Hart House race at Toronto, where club members battled against fierce competition to capture nine of the top ten finishes. Additionally, Queen’s Triathlon entered a new competition sponsored by Triathlon Ontario and hosted by the Toronto Triathlon Club in March. The Gaels attributes this season’s success to the enthusiasm of its club members; the new swim, bike, and run captains; as well as support from Dave Grant, the coach of the Kingston Track and Field Club, and John Armitage, the Queen’s University Varsity Rowing Coach. Triathlon is quickly gaining popularity at many Canadian universities and Queen’s Triathlon is looking for continued success moving forward.

SEASON RECAP
Starting off the season, the team had two months before nationals to be ready to compete. Having come off a rebuilding year in 2014 Queen’s came into the season with a strong team. Tryouts proved favourable, with more athletes trying out than ever before. At the first qualifier, Steeltown Classic, Queen’s took 2nd place overall narrowly missing the qualifying position. At the second qualifier, CEUUC, the team battled through injuries and lost a tough run to finish 4th overall. The team was next gearing up for Nationals, with a Friday qualifier as the final chance to secure a spot in the top division. Queen’s was confident, and sure enough, easily won a spot. After a cold and snowy yet successful Saturday, the Gaels went into Sunday’s ready to play. There Queen’s had a final face-off against McMaster, winning the bronze medal game and finishing 3rd overall in Canada.

THE GRADUATING ‘Q’ AWARD Successful, Strong, Bold, Proud, Inspiring, Perseverant… these are the attributes of Queen’s student-athletes. The Graduating “Q” Award embodies these qualities and signifies the development a student-athlete experiences while at Queen’s. This award is made from slate, a metamorphic rock that has undergone alteration through heat and pressure to form its current state. Slate also symbolizes a record of performance and represents a new beginning. Graduating studentathletes have been tested by the combined rigors of athletics and academics during their career at Queen’s. The personal growth you have experienced as a student-athlete has prepared you for success in future endeavours. The Graduating “Q” is a constant reminder of your experience as a student-athlete. The commitment, perseverance, joy, pain, and ultimately the successes you have achieved are all represented by this award. Presented to graduating athletes who have contributed to Queen’s for a minimum of three seasons, this award is a reminder that recipients are ‘Forever a Gael.’ Athletes receiving this award are denoted throughout this book with a “Q” beside their name.
