Community Outreach case for support
We commend the goals of the Aboriginal Youth Animation Project, which is a step toward sustainable community development. This program aligns with our mandate to nurture self empowerment, healthy collaboration and communication, ensuring that urban Aboriginal youth have the ability to envision and attain a healthy, sustainable future while upholding traditional Aboriginal values. LeeAnne Ireland Executive Director, Urban Society for Aboriginal Youth
Each year I look forward to being invited to the screening of the animations. I am always excited and impressed with the hard work and dedication these young adults put into their work. This program gives the participants an opportunity to focus their creative energies to craft animations relating to youth, action and the environment. Kent Hehr MLA for Calgary Buffalo

community outreach Our Aboriginal Youth Animation Programs build the confidence and resiliency needed in order for youth to set and achieve their goals. Operating since 2008 and recognized as positive step towards building sustainable community, our programs equip youth with fundamental life, teamwork, creative thinking, and personal management skills, while maintaining a focus on traditional Aboriginal values, culture, language, and identity. I am compelled to collect stories on behalf of our Nation, so that our children will remember their roots, and so that the beauty of our spirit will remain kindled. By sewing together pieces of our identity, by making this identity accessible to our Nation young and old, by sharing something of the strength of our ways, I hope to offer a valuble resource for future generations and speak to the beauty of our people. As a young Aboriginal living in an urban society, this program has already taught my fellow classmates and me a lot about our Aboriginal cultures and ancestors. The field trips we’ve taken and the people we’ve met have all exposed and deepened our thoughts into cultural identity. -Josh Elleze Past Participant
The places AYAP has taken me, and the people that I’ve met in the process, has taught me a lot about my culture and my land. Thanks to this program I can look back on my ancestry with pride, dignity and a sense of knowledge. Diana Hellson Past Participant
