ere at Quince, we think of ourselves as knitters. That said, when a great crochet design finds its way to our office, we think again. Even though we aren’t experts, we’re learning more about our sister craft, collecting stitch books and ideas, throwing hooks into our needle vases. If you walk through the office and glance at the piles on our desks, you’ll see evidence of our growing interest in crochet possibilities. Leila’s granny square swatches worked in shades of gray are pinned to the wall, inspiration for a future afghan. And Dawn has been tinkering with stitches from an antique table cloth and learning how to draw a crochet chart. There’s something that appeals to us about the structure of crocheted lace. It’s feminine, but not too sweet. Its filled-in textures, worked on a generously sized hook, are drapey and interesting, drawing the eye. You’ll see what I mean when you look through the shawls in this book. After your enthusiastic response to last year’s crochet collection, we decided to try it again. We love the pieces herein and, knitter or crocheter, we hope you’ll love them, too.
