his year ’s linen offerings call back to beginnings. Spring of 2014 saw several: The launch of Kestrel in
April, with its own little collection, and the first ever Sparrow-focused collection, Sans, showcasing the glorious nature of organic linen fiber—all in the undyed colorway Sans. The beauty of natural linen is unparalleled for summer handknits, highlighted even more by the irresistible ha nd and characteristics of our worsted weight linen. This year, Kestrel’s natural linen shade Senza , sister to Sparrow ’s Sans, is the focus of the Kestrel 2019 collection. We couldn’t help but bring a few special shades into the mix for one of the designs in this year ’s crop, but above all, these pieces are all about the inherent beauty of all-natural linen knits. Kestrel defies traditional assumptions about the limitations of linen yarn (and how it can feel to knit with it). The smooth linen tape yields to a comfortable working of stitches, it glides on the needles, and creates unbelievable fabrics. It’s soft , and it looks and wears fantastically. Wool alternatives have certainly come a long way!

jerusha neely Jerusha lives and works in Portland, Maine, splitting her time between knitting and music: As development coordinator and technical editor for Quince & Co, and as a performing songwriter, singer, and cellist. And luckily, she still somehow gets to enjoy time with her loved ones and take in a starry sky. ravelry: mehetable instagram: @mehetableparmelia
