SUCCESS BY DESIGN
PURSUE LIFE You—and you alone— know the right direction for your life. You are about to embark on a shared journey. It will be built around your own strengths and talents. Many of those you already know. Some you don’t. For the next four years, you’ll figure them out and have experiences that will stick with you for the rest of your life. And you won’t do it alone; you’ll do it in a diverse community in which we welcome and celebrate exploration and discovery. Life is about to get more challenging. More interesting. More unpredictable. But we’ll be here to guide you. With our support, you can make these big decisions. We’ll go forward together.
AT QUINCY UNIVERSITY, YOUR SUCCESS IS BY DESIGN Success By Design At Quincy University, we take your college experience seriously. We work with you to design a customized success plan, so you will graduate on time, find your passion, and be prepared for life. On the cover: Quincy, Illinois, has been home to QU for over 160 years.
It’s your journey. It’s your success. The faculty and staff at Quincy University are with you every step along the way.

STUDY ABROAD Short and long-term international trips allow students to expand their perspectives with up-close views of other parts of the world, such as Belize, Italy, London, Paris, Canterbury, Scotland, Costa Rica, and Galapagos Islands.

ACADEMIC PARTNERSHIP
FACULTY
INTELLECTUAL SUCCESS: AN EDUCATION FOR THE 21ST CENTURY On the first day of class, don’t be surprised if you’re exchanging phone numbers with professors who have just returned from expeditions, conferences, or research projects. Our faculty are active and hands-on in their fields and encourage our students to be the same. With prestigious backgrounds and intimate classrooms, Quincy’s teachers, tutors, and co-pilots are here to help.
MEGAN BOCCARDI, PH.D. (ASSISTANT VICE-PRESIDENT, ACADEMIC AFFAIRS) The first thing Dr. Boccardi’s students learn is that history is more than facts and dates. It’s about context, significance, and learning how the world functions. It’s about digging up moments buried by time and showing students places, people, and periods that widen their perspective and understanding of life. Not surprising for a recipient of both QU’s “Excellence in Teaching” Award and a Fulbright Scholarship, and, not to mention, a QU alum herself.
Abdallah Talafha, Ph.D. / Associate Professor of Mathematics
LEE ENGER, PH.D. (BIOCHEMISTRY, SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY)
A passion for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and a hands-on ability to help his students stand out while they apply to medical school makes Dr. Enger the perfect guide for pre-med students. And no one can doubt his commitment, as he guides more intrepid pre-med students through a biology and chemistry double-major. Don’t forget to stop and take a look in his office. His interest in vintage biology posters and artifacts have resulted in a decorative scheme worth a second glance.
We help the person you are happen. You come to grow. We’re here to guide.

NURSING Educational partnerships offer the best of both worlds. QU offers a 2+2 program, allowing nursing students to receive a liberal arts education while attending a college of nursing. With the completion of the nursing program at Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing and Health Sciences (BRCN) and the Bonaventure program of general education at QU, students can earn a Bachelors of Science in Nursing in four years. Nursing classes start at BRCN your sophomore year, where students experience one-on-one instruction, clinical experience, internship opportunities, and a state-of-the-art Simulation Center.

Quincy’s mock-trial courtroom is the home field for our nationally-recognized mocktrial team. Students with a pre-law concentration receive academic contributions from professors, alumni, and members of the local legal community. Quincy’s 3+3 program with St. Louis University allows students to earn a bachelor’s degree from QU and a Juris Doctorate degree from SLU Law in six years (three at each school).

HAWK LIFE
OWN SUCCESS: MAKE YOUR PLAN
A QU education is designed to set you up for a successful life and career. Knowledge is learned. Wisdom is gained. The liberal arts provide both, built on a strong foundation of critical thinking. A QU education offers the wisdom to apply your learning well. As a result, our graduates are often ahead of their peers, and jump right in—with confidence—to the next leg of their journey. Medical school. Law school. Graduate research. Starting that job. Starting a business. They leave their undergraduate experience with the wisdom to know what’s right for them, and a well-honed ability to follow through. They don’t look back and think “What did I do?” Rather, they’re stating, “This is what I learned.”

Forming new relationships, finding common interests, sharing and appreciating differences—all of these are about life-building. Connectionmaking. Course-deciding. And it all comes from the experiences you can get here, not just in the classroom: ping-pong tournaments and chemistry Olympiads; football games and Hawk Wild weekend. There are lessons to learn, from going head first down a Slip ‘N Slide or watching hot air balloons rise into the night that you won’t get anywhere else.

WITH SUCCESS COMES ACCESS It isn’t every day students have the opportunity to eat at the cafeteria with their university president, but at Quincy University, you can. President Dr. Brian McGee loves to interact with students, and you will often see him at music performances, cheering on the Hawks at athletic events, or meeting with student groups in Francis Hall. An avid runner, McGee logs over 20 miles a week and invites student groups to join him for a run. On campus, McGee is famous for his gourmet waffles made on his 1962 Westinghouse Waffle Iron and hosts a Waffles with the President event during the campus-wide Weeks of Welcome. McGee is the 24th president of Quincy University. He is a Midwest native with over 25 years of experience in higher education. The sculpture “Windows to the Future” can be found on QU’s main campus.

SPIRITUAL LIFE
FRANCISCAN HERITAGE Passion. Discovery. Respect. These are the hallmarks of growth. The Catholic Franciscan ethos at our heart is that there is a sprawling and vivacious world surrounding us, of which we should strive to be a productive and important part. By understanding that each person is a unique expression of life, we are able to focus on the individual student and development of the whole person. Cultivate your passion, step out of your comfort zone, and trust that you will grow into the most productive version of yourself.

ALUMNI STORIES
WE COME TOGETHER TO ACCOMPLISH MORE
You’re here to write the next chapter of your story.
ANDY MARTINEZ ’15 Andy Martinez manages the social media content, planning, and execution for the Marquis Sports Network. He also helps create content for the website, such as writing stories, cutting video, and interviews covering the Cubs. He discovered that he loved to write and produce video as a student working as an editor for the Falcon Newspaper and at QUTV.
ALEKSANDRA PETROVIC ’21 Aleksandra Petrovic chose QU because it allowed her to pursue her passions while being in an environment that pushed her to become a better all-around person. When it comes to preparation for law school, she feels confident and well-prepared after studying under Dr. Borlas and Dr. Wright for four years. Their mentorships made it possible for Aleksandra to receive a full scholarship at New York Law School. She is so thankful for everything she learned from them. Aleksandra is aware she still has a lot to learn but knows her professors did an outstanding job and prepared her for learning more.
B.J. WILSON ’22 On his first visit to Quincy University, after meeting the people—the faculty, coaches, and other students—and having some great conversations, B.J. Wilson knew Quincy University was the place for him. It felt like family. QU also offered the majors he was interested in studying. B.J. decided to choose two majors, criminal justice and computer science, and a minor in cybersecurity, with the plan to continue his education in cybersecurity law. B.J. is proud of what he’s accomplished on campus and is grateful to the faculty and coaches who have challenged him to try new things, from a different position on the football field to developing a virtual reality game.
