How To Boost Business Creativity – Declutter Your Mind When your mind is full of rubbish, creativity just flies right of the window. It’s a domino effect: one worry leads to another and then another and another … I find that writing down my worries and concerns are an effective way of ‘dumping’ the clutter and freeing up your mental space allowing you to think clearly and freely. This technique aids sleep and relaxation because it feels as if you’re leaving your worries on paper and they’re somehow more ordered. I’d also recommend keeping a healthy distance from newspapers and news’ programmes in general. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have an awareness of what’s going on around us but don’t allow yourself to become consumed by the negativity that is flooding into our home and devices day in and day out. It can be extremely draining and if you don’t feel your best, you can’t give your best to others.

How To Boost Business Creativity – Put A Twist on An Old Idea When people talk about ‘new ideas’, what they’re really doing is putting a new twist on an old idea. Fashion is a prime example: what went out of fashion thirty years ago comes right back round again just with a more modern twist. The same principle applies to your own business. Look at what already exists in your own area of interest and then think about how you can make an improvement. What do people want and need? Can you spot a gap in the market? How can you put your own spin on it? It’s called ‘negative capability’ when you can see something that requires improvement and which nobody else has tapped into. That’s what the company Apple did: just improved what already existed and look what happened to that company!

How To Boost Business Creativity – Immerse Yourself In Culture “Beware the barrenness of a busy life.” Socrates
It’s so easy to fly around at a million miles an hour and to fill every second of the day with ‘things to do’. Creativity needs time and space to develop so take some time out and really look at what’s out there. How many times do you walk or drive around where you live and really ‘see’ what’s there? Take inspiration from nature, buildings, art and other people. Not just those ‘older and wiser’ but younger people too. It’s amazing what happens when you keep your ears and eyes open. Don’t cut yourself off from what is right under your nose. Buildings, art and sculpture are all around us yet how often do we stop, take a breath and look?

Trouble is this can lead to a vicious circle where you just feel motivated to do anything at all, including exercise. Exercise has both physical and mental benefits when the feel good hormones are released. Of course, once you feel good you start to be more positive and in a position to be more open to creative opportunities. It’s a knock on effect. Exercise doesn’t have to be complicated. Walking, gardening and doing the housework all count – you just need to get your heart pumping a bit harder for the benefits to kick in.
