Getting back to the Shows The Racing Equipment News team had a blast at SEMA. It was exiting to return to in-person events and reconnect and meet many new faces and see the latest parts and equipment at the show. We felt the SEMA 2021 show was more about quality then quantity. This December, we are excited to close out 2021 with our first trip out to the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Trade Show. Dedicated to racing professionals, PRI is not open to the public. Nearly 1,000 companies will be exhibiting this year, and we will be on the floor searching for the latest in performance technology. New for 2021, attendees will have the opportunity to join the PRI Membership Program. As the racing industry faces regulatory and legislation changes, membership will help give a singular, unified voice to advocate for racers and the crews and teams behind them. The show will mark the first-time members of the racing community will be able to meet and discuss how to tackle unfair legislation. If your business is racing, we hope to see you at PRI! Stay safe,

Nick Boliek Editorial Director NEXT STAGE - VOL. 5 ISSUE 9 - SHOW WRAP UP AND TOP PRODUCTS What was hot at SEMA and PRI? What’s new that will get you to the finish line faster? The next issue of Racing Equipment News highlights the Top Products from both shows and discover what’s new and upcoming for 2022.

Keep Your Cool Q

uantum Cooler series of coolers are the most powerful and portable cooling systems ever designed for motor sport. Requiring no ice, this driver cooling system is completely maintenance free, running solely off the strength of a rotary microcompressor that is as powerful as other compressors 5 x its size. Rated at 20 liters per minute/16 psi, the Quantum Pro is capable of chilling to under 35º F/1.6ºC. Max amp draw is rated at 18-22 amps (depending on installation and environmental conditions). The system contains less than 1.75 oz./51.7 ml. of Freon sealed within the rotary micro-compressor system.

The Quantum Pro offers many different temperature settings that support varying performance conditions. Dual 220 cfm fans help decrease amp draw, and an illuminated easy-to-read color digital display offers valuable information and data.

Weighing in at 10.5 lbs/4.7 kg, the Quantum Pro is hot-swappable so you can quickly move it from mounting location to mounting location within seconds. Dash mountable digital control displays are available for installations out of reach from the driver (sold separately) For the best results, please consider the interior temperature of your vehicle and keep in mind that ducting may be necessary for most installations. Using 4 inch ducting is highly recommended and eliminates the need for a supplemental blower. 3 inch ducting, though effective, can be very restrictive and require the use of a high performance (250+ cfm) blower. 35

Miller Releases New Portable, Flexible CST™ 282 Stick Welder

T

he new wing features machined aluMiller Electric Mfg. LLC, a leading worldwide manufacturer of Miller® brand arc welding equipment, has released the new CST 282 stick/TIG welder, designed for construction, shipbuilding, pipe welding and maintenance and repair applications. The new welder delivers lightweight portability and the flexibility to be plugged into nearly any source of primary powe — so operators can get the work done in any location.

“Building on the reputation and legacy of previous CST machines, the CST 282 is a workhorse that offers dependable arc performance as well as portability, flexibility and durability — all in an easy-to-use package,” says Ken Stanzel, product manager, Miller. “When operators need ultimate portability, this power source is a small, durable, go-anywhere welder.” Designed for jobsite stick and TIG welding, the power source provides 280 amps of

44

VOLUME: 5 | ISSUE 8 | 2021

welding performance. The machine includes a digital meter that provides precise control when presetting or monitoring welding amperage, so operators can be assured of their proper settings to produce quality welds. In addition, voltage reducing device (VRD) technology reduces output when the operator isn’t welding, improving safety by reducing the potential harm from inadvertent contact with the electrode during non-welding pauses. The CST 282 also includes Auto-Line™ power management technology — the first time this technology has been included in the CST lineup.

For small welding jobs or repairs, it’s critical to be able to easily move the power source to where it’s needed on the jobsite. The CST 282 weighs just 34.6 pounds, making it 6 pounds — or 15% — lighter than the previous CST model and 19 pounds — or 35% — lighter than similar competitive machines. This offers greater portability and benefits operator comfort and safety when moving the machine. The power source also provides simplicity for operators, with a push-button interface that uses welder’s language to improve ease of use. Operators can see with a glance at the front panel how the machine is set up.

45

VOLUME: 5 | ISSUE 8 | 2021

FOR THE PITS | MILLER | PORTABLE WELDER

In addition, a new Miller-exclusive universal output connector system can be used with both Tweco and Dinse-style connectors. Operators can convert the machine from one connector style to another — without having to take the machine apart or deal with adapters — for added convenience and flexibility. Operators can also work anywhere there is 208 to 575 volts of AC power with the CST 282, providing better flexibility for a range of jobsites. Simply connect the machine and the system automatically adapts to the primary voltage it’s connected to, with no manual linking needed.

The CST 282 also offers flexibility regarding primary power and cable connections. Auto-Line power management technology ensures that operators can get high-quality arcs from virtually any incoming wall power. On some jobsites, operators may have to deal with “dirty” power, which can negatively affect welding arcs. With Auto-Line technology, the CST 282 delivers consistent, powerful arcs using single-phase or threephase electrical service from 208 to 575 volts — even dirty power with dips and spikes. Any voltage spikes or dips are absorbed and smoothed by the machine, which helps protect arc quality.

of longevity and performance unlike other synthetic oils. Benefits include improved starting, increased power and fuel economy, reduced soot, extended engine life, and reduced friction. With improved oxidation, shearing, and thermal stability, Blue Diamond 10w-30 is a more fortified oil than competitive brands that resists breakdown allowing for longer drain intervals; all while reducing engine wear up to 71% better than CJ-4 specifications. Oil change intervals can be extended up to every 50-100K miles if the oil is monitored every 10,000 miles for the Total Base Number (TBN). This oil also requires a very small amount of viscosity improvers to meet the weight specification,

allowing it to be formulated with additional additives to improve performance.

Severe Duty Blue Diamond and Adrenaline Racing Lines The formulations protect against some of the major causes of transmission failure, including extreme heat, fluid oxidation and a lack of proper lubrication. Both formulas, Severe Duty Blue Diamond +4/D3/M5 and Adrenaline Pro Shift +4, are developed from combined 100% poly-a-olefin (PAO) Group IV and high-quality Group V synthetic oils. For added protection, the transmission fluid formulas are infused with Hot Shot’s Secret FR3 nano carbon lubricant technology. FR3 improves shearing

maintain its’ color. If it’s dark, that’s a sign it’s time to change it. If you see any dirt, debris, or sludge in the power steering fluid, it’s time for the system to be flushed. If you hear some sort of noise when the wheel is turned or see some leaks, that may be another sign it’s time to change the fluid.”
