THE REBIRTH ISSUE

THE REBIRTH OF RADAR MAGAZINE If you had asked me a year ago if I would bring Radar Magazine back to Second Life the answer would have been without a doubt no!. Thinking how much work it was, and how things have changed while I had it. I didn’t think I was even able to start Radar again. To think 3 years ago I had a full staff and a full model roster not to mention the growing support of creators, designers and readers. It was unbelievable hard to let this magazine go. I cried for months on end about it, a decision had to be made and I made it. The magazine was always on my mind why not’ it is my baby. I have gotten messages every month since shutting down in 2011, countless flickr adds and likes on our facebook page, tweets and all wondering when will Radar be back? It wasn’t until a few months ago my friends and family had an intervention like conversation with me. They asked me “how can I know so much about Second Life and log in and not do anything?” They wanted to ask if I wanted to do anything, all I could think was the only thing I would want to do, would be to open the magazine back up. But how? I have no staff, no models, no creator support and I was out the loop. Not to mention someone hacked an account for marketing and ejected everyone

who had remained in the magazine group. So I had to come to terms that if it was going to happen I was going to be starting from scratch all over again. This has been the hardest few months a lot of hard work has already gone into this, but I can honestly say I extremely happy bringing it back. We worked hard putting this issue together it is only a glimpse of whats to come and will show you some of what we aim to do. I will like to introduce to some and present to others RadarSL Magazine . Radar was created with the vision to constantly evolve with many trends and developments of Second Life. Radar brings all the elements of our grid together. We provide our staff members a place of growth, development and opportunities outside of the RadarSL umbrella. We hope you continue to support us and look for the release of our next issues and our website is coming soon!

INTERVIEW WITH VIDA LYRIC VIDACONSTYLE.COM How did you discover Second Life? Vida Lyric: I discovered Second Life by browsing Online. I was checking out different chat programs How long Have you been on Second Life? Vida Lyric: I’ve been playing Second Life for quite a while now, years. When did you start your Blog and how did you get started? Vida Lyric: I think I started blogging back in 2010 or 2011. I always kind of wondered about it and finally one day I just decided to go for it. My sister at that time, Vanity Halpin, was there to give me some blogging tips and pretty much encouraged me . What do you enjoy most about blogging ? What are some of your favorite items to blog? Vida Lyric: Shoes! .. Yeah probably shoes. My favorite combo is probably Black with Gold accessories. What is your inspiration when you blog? Vida Lyric: Well inspiration for a whole outfit can come from one single item. Sometimes I just find one amazing necklace and I just start to form a picture for a look. Other times I just blog based on the mood I’m in or some-

thing specific I want to express. Why do you think people enjoy visiting your blog? Vida Lyric: I think reasons may vary. Some visit the site to find stuff to wear and others may just enjoy the way that I blog or edit the pictures. I put a lot of work into my blog and I think people appreciate that. In what ways do you think your blogging and style have changed since you first started? Vida Lyric: The the only thing different from then and now is that I’m more aware of what accessories to wear with certain styles. I haven’t really changed much. I still blog different styles. What advice would you give to someone who is interested in starting their own blog? Vida Lyric: My advice would be to try to be consistent, always credit and link to the designers that they are blogging and give quality photos.

Winter Romance

with deesireme Fallen

This month’s issue of Radar magazine has the theme of Romance! A large majority of the residents of Second Life have experienced a partnering or two, three..etc! A hearts, flowers, and violin romance in Second Life is possible and can be done with great style, with a little thought and a little planning. We at Radar Magazine wish to inspire the romantic in you, to your own Holiday Romance...Second Life Style! From across a crowded floor, in a crowded sim, you spot that special someone...you lock your camera gaze upon each other, as you fight against the lag to be beside them. You get up enough nerve and immediately send message. You make small talk that leads up to the question you really want to ask....”Will you go out with me?” As you listen to your own heart beating, while waiting, what seems like an eternity or chat lag, for the answer, he/she says yes and is willing to go out on a date with you. Your heart leaps, as you are thrilled and nervous all at once! We are talking about ro-

mantic dating in Second Life. Christmas is the season for giving, but it is also the season of romance. What do you do now to show that new special someone your romantic side? Second Life dating, in a way, is no different from real life dating, as we are all human beings behind the avatar and, yes, feelings are involved. You want to make a great impression, you want the date to be special...memorable! Some will ask friends for recommendations as to where to go or what to do. Some will go with the standard standbys for a great time, like Frank’s. While nothing is wrong with that, why not break away from the herd and be different! This being the holiday season, there are many builds that are only available during this time of year! Why not start off your date by going to marketplace and sending red roses. If you cannot afford to buy, there are many flowers available for 0 lindens that you can send with a sweet little message mentioning how you are looking

forward to being with them. Just think of how good they will feel about saying yes about going out with YOU! One great place to start your romantic date is at the Winter Scenes by Incendia Outdoors 2013! It is a beautiful quaint wintry themed sim that you can spend time talking to become acquainted or rekindling memories, while you couple ice skate or walk and explore the sim. Why not take a sleigh ride and impress him/her with your dexterity in driving the sleigh! There is sledding, romantic dancing on a winter gazebo, horseback riding, even snowball fights! You can ski or walk around looking at the winter wildlife present. If you just wish to sit, relax in the lodge together and talk, dance, make beautiful music together on the piano, or sit in front of a roaring fire...how cozy is that! Enjoy together, all the fun of winter, at Winter Scenes 2013 by Incendia! If candlelight and dressing up is more in line with what you are thinking, well....Casa de aromas is the perfect place to bask in each other’s eyes! Casa de Aromas is a Tuscan style restaurant, which serves Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Their menu consists of authentic Italian style meals served on beautiful hand painted dishes to match each meal. All of the cuisine dishes are served with their best wines from their winery! Couples in the romantic mood, can try their wonderful outdoor dining room where you’ll be able to enjoy the ocean’s beauty, feel the wonderful sea breeze, and the warmth of a friendly smile from the waitresses who are more than happy to serve you on your special night!. At this restaurant there is a dining experience for every budget! For those couples wishing for a totally private dining experience, they have 3 different themed suites, as well, where guests may dine in private and even stay after, alone if they wish. The suites offer you dinner services with a beautiful ambience, for an exquisite getaway for you and your loved one to enjoy a romantic couple only evening. The suites are fully decorated,

exclusive, and so romantic! All suites are equipped with the best-animated furniture that exists in SL! These suites can be rented alone, by the hour, day, or booked for dinner service. One of the best packages, the Supreme Romantic Dinner Experience For Two, which lasts approximately 2 hours, where you choose one of 4 dinner packages and is served by a professional waitress. For the ultimate holiday and romantic experience, why not rent the new VIP Suite, Winter Wonderland, which is an amazing, fantastic, very cozy, and private, beautiful 1/4 winter paradise escape. Why not rent a suite and fall in love! Planning a romantic date does take some thought, as you may not know the person well you are going out with, so make sure that your date is filled with activities that both can enjoy and offer options. Romance on the high seas will fit that bill nicely! Why not make a weekend date and take a cruise on the SS Galaxy, The Queen of the Sagittarian Seas? How romantic is that! This amazing ship is managed by a real life travel company that offer real life cruise vacations, as well, so you know you will have awesome amenities and a variety of activities! The SS Galaxy is a enormous, full-featured cruise ship that spans three sims and offers a host of activities, including dancing, shopping, fine dining, games, swimming, and music, just like a real life cruise ship!!! You can really plan a romantic stay here, as there is much to do and see that is perfect for couples. There are several virtual ports of call, Dublin in Sl, New England in SL, Second Norway, Munich in SL, and Portugal. Within the 8 decks of the Galaxy, you will find such amenities as the Glacier Café, Skating Rink, jogging track, Coral Lagoon Pool, the Atrium Garden, the Constellation Lounge, the Nova Straaf Gallery,

and the Holodeck Rec Room, a conference Center, Starlight Lounge, Japanese Garden Restau-

rant, Wedding Chapel, the Spa and Indoor Pool to name a few. Your special one, indeed, will feel like they hit the romance jackpot with you!!! Once you and your date check in, why not try a

massage to relax, maybe sunbathe next to the pool, or sit in the hot tub. There are many rooms to choose from, furnished or unfurnished. Just like on a real cruise ship there are different classes of staterooms. Each stateroom/suite have prim allowances that allow you to rezz things under the group’s title and vary according to the size of your cabin, stateroom, or suite. The cheapest are the cabins. The cabins are small places to sleep and a place to sit. The Staterooms have a separate sleep and sitting rooms, and have a balcony with a ocean view. Single suites are the same, but much more space. The more spacious double suites have 2 floors, each with 2 rooms and a balcony, and doors that you can enter and leave on different decks levels. The VIP’s Star suites are gorgeous! I don’t know if the Owners and Captain suites are available but they are HUGE! The cabins, staterooms, and suites are available for rent, some by the day, or week. Just think of the memorable midnight strolls, the romantic dancing under the stars, and an intimate dinner for 2 at one of the many restaurants available onboard or dining in your suite. Your date will think you are the god/goddess of romance. There are numerous activities on board like zip lining, golfing, sky diving and fireworks shows. Feeling more active, how about challenging him/her to rock climbing or perhaps you need to calm down all that ex-

citement of being with your date.... a yoga session! There is so much to do and see, as this cruise ship is humongous, and so conducive to a high seas tryst! It is a wonderful way to get to know someone new or to flame the embers of an existing fire! When you are ready, you can disembark to visit the virtual ports of call for sightseeing and exploring. Your date cannot help but be impressed by the effort you have put forth in making a romantic rendezvous, for them, that they will never forget and that will touch the heart! Finally, if you want something that you can ditch the tux and gown, is a bit faster paced, geared towards music and outdoor sports, tp over with your date to the Winter Ice Rock Festival 2013. Winter Ice Rock Festival 2013 is where you can get your music mojo going that will rock your Second Life world! There are amazing tribute rock concerts based on past and current rock bands, parties, a sky-rail, skiing, sledding, skating, romance, and more. I highly recommend spending some quality time in this engaging winter experience with your date for an awesome romantic winter outing. I suggest taking the tram tour that will take you above the ground where you will get a fantastic aerial view of charming buildings, lodges, cabins, ponds, and just gorgeous winter scenery. You can hop off at the top of Ski Mountain where you will find free skies and a sled rezzer for your use. There is so much to do here! Across from the skating pond there is even a theatre where you can sit comfortably and watch movies! In the Lodge, you can sit at the bar for conversation and libations, there are comfortable seats by a crackling fire, and at the outdoor lounging areas, as well, and where you can sip assorted hot drinks. Throughout the sims, you will find posters announcing the next event and the times so you can plan accordingly. Romance throughout the holiday season or anytime for that matter, can be much fun, not cost you an arm and leg, and

bring you someone to share and enjoy Second Life with. Please remember that romance is not a sex pose ball, but comes from the heart and mind. It is how you treat and think of someone you care about and wish to have reciprocated back to you! Kisses

piinky chrome INTERVIEW by Mu’lan A. Miyagi I had the pleasure of meeting Piinky “Piink” Chrome about 2 years ago. I made a slight mistake with a purchase and contacted her about a possible exchange (same outfit, different color). Now everyone knows, the designer you contact when making a mistake such as this, you can get one out of the two responses. Piink was so nice about it, she even gave me the fat-pack of the outfit because it was an item she had decided to take down the next day. Soon after this encounter, I had the pleasure of getting to know her on a more personal level. Piink is such a kind and humble human being; with so much success, she has never let any of it go to her head. She exudes so much strength and charisma you can’t help but respect the business mindset she puts forth. I was excited to interview her for the cover of Radar Magazine because I don’t feel as though she gets the recognition that she genuinely deserves. After this interview I want our readers to understand Piink as a person and a designer, just as I have.

Cover Story

Question: What made you decide to be a designer on Second Life, did you have any previous knowledge on how to create? Piink: I was pressured into joining Second Life around 2009, I’m originally from IMVU. Being that I was in college all of my finances were going to books, food, and living expenses. So with having a general knowledge of Photoshop, I made the decision to teach myself how to make content creation for this virtual world. I always have been inspired by both design and fashion, so I felt this was the perfect place to learn, grow, and have a good time while doing it. Question: What did you go to school for? Piink: Initially, I went to college as an Art Major. Art has always been my passion, and has always spoken to my soul, since I was a little girl. But in all honesty, I didn’t want to be a starving artist, so I decided to major in the field of Graphic Design, with a Concentration in Visual Communications. I enjoy Graphic Design, but I feel as if it will never be as free as the Visual arts.

“FASHION IS LIFE TO ME”

Question: What does fashion mean to you? Piink: Fashion is life to me. Not in the sense that you can’t live without it, but different forms of fashion represent different time periods, past memories, and most importantly fashion allows you to express your own personal style. You can walk the streets in your city in rl or walk the streets of Second Life and say “This is who df I am!”

porters because I honestly didn’t have a clue to what the hell I was doing. Everything was an experiment for me and a lesson learned on the way to becoming a better designer. Question: Who are your fashion influences, what looks inspire you to design? Piink: There are too many to list, but some of my main fashion influences are Kenzo and Isaac Mizrahi for their use of prints and poppy colors. They have no fear when it comes to being bold and in your face. I love The Blonds & Jeremy Scott. I feel they take risks most designers would never take. The items they create aren’t the least bit ordinary. They tend to be costumie [I think i just made up a word] or costume like, but not in a bad way. Last but certainly not least, I LOVE Givenchy for their fierceness, they tend to use a lot of black, but not in a way that will make the consumer feel hidden or muted. Their designs are just incredibly empowering.

“PEOPLE WILL TRY TO USE, SCAM, AND JUDGE YOU JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE CHOSEN TO TAKE THE ROLE OF A DESIGNER ON SECOND LIFE”. Question: What is your greatest accomplishment with Lethal Couture thus far?

Piink: My greatest accomplishment with Lethal, surprisingly has not been participation in any of the major fairs or events, it has been so much more than what I expected. On Second Life I get to reach those that love fashion and my designs as much as I do. That is what drives me.

Question: What were some of the first items you designed. How did you feel about it?

Question: What do you think is the downfall of designing clothing on Second Life? Have you ever felt like you just wanted to quit and pack it up?

Piink: Oh God, I honestly can’t even remember that far back! I didn’t feel I was as advanced as some of the other experienced designers that had been creating years before me, but people seemed to like what I was making. I will forever be thankful for my day one sup-

Piink: The downside of designing on Second Life is that it is way too time consuming for the profit you receive. You also have to be weary when it comes to the people you allow in your circle because not everyone has the best intentions. People will try to use, scam, and judge

Cover Story

you just because you have chosen to take the role of a designer on Second Life.

“Work hard in silence and let your success be your noise.” Question: What is your opinion on the designer community, they are often perceived as elitist or snobs do you agree with this stereotype?

Question: You are debuting in Paris for fashion week. Who are your three top models and why? They can be Real life or Second Life. Piink: Hmm... Good question! One would absolutely have to be Miss Naomi Campbell. She has the best runway walk I’ve ever seen in LIFE! Not to mention I adore her 40+ yrs and all. Adriana Lima would be another choice. She’s just a beautiful woman that I would love to perv :), and her walk is killer! Last but certainly not least, would be the face of Lethal, my twin to the end, the lovely Vain Redrose.

Piink: I believe that some fall true to the stereotype, but in life there are different types of people good and bad with different personalities, and the same rings true to the designers of the SL community. A quote I will live by both RL & SL is, “Work hard in silence and let your success be your noise.” I’ve always made the decision to remain true to myself and not wear a mask for anyone on SL.

Question: You have to initially stop making clothes in one specific color that you normally would make all your items. Which color do you choose?

Question: You have often been put in the “urban” category. Do you agree? What category would you put yourself in?

Question: The album muse to some of your collections. Basically an album you think that would relate a lot to the collections you have made cohesively.

Piink: I do feel I have been labeled as an “Urban Designer” because the majority of the community that I grew into is what would be considered the minority (Black/ Latino etc.), but I don’t feel it defines me as a person or a designer. To place myself into such a small genre of fashion and design would be handicapping me. This does not mean there is anything wrong with being urban or an urban designer. A lot of what I create is Urban, it’s Streetwear, it’s Chic, and it’s Edgy, but most importantly it appeals to ALL demographics globally. When I TP into my main store I see people from the U.S., Europe, South America, and different parts of Asia and it makes me feel good that my brand appeals to everyone around the world. I decided mid interview to shake things up a bit, and ask something different so that our readers could get more of Piink’s personality. We often think we have an idea of who people are by what we just see. But we sometimes don’t have the chance to actually entertain with these people, how will we really know. And the truth is…. We don’t.

Piink: Yikes! I love color! I honestly don’t like rules or restrictions, so I would break them and say black. Most people think it’s a color when it is a shade, so no restrictions on my end =].

Piink: That’s a tough one.... Azealia Banks 1991. The album was colorful, cunty, and in your face. Although she doesn’t have the commercial appeal of say a Nicki Minaj, she can go bar for bar with her. As we conclude our interview i want to ask you what’s next for Lethal Couture? Piink: What’s Next? I got to say a lot of new innovative designs and out of the box ideas. Just straight fiyah! I can’t give all my ideas away, but just know you won’t be disappointed ;) Finally, I thanked Piink for taking the time to sit with us and having this interview. She was a pleasure to talk with. Check out Lethal Couture in world:

FOR HIM

Interview with SuperJIax

XIAJ

Photography by Antonietta Canucci

When it comes to male clothing in Second Life and you come across a line such as XIAJ you can appreciate the unique style and quality. SuperJiax is a very ambitious individual, he seems to have no limits, and so stopping soon isn’t an option. We took the time to give a quick interview to him about his male line for XIAJ. We asked about his inspirations and how he got started also what is to come in the future for XIAJ.

Model: SETH DIABALITO

XIAJ

Question: How did you decide you wanted to do a male section for your brand? Jaix: I wanted to make clothes that he would be able to wear to support himself throughout the grid Question: Did/do you find it more difficult? Jaix: I am more known for male clothing and decided to stop creating female clothing, but many of shoes and accessories I make are unisex. It is difficult to make items for females because I do not know what they want. Question: What type of style do you go for? Jaix: XIAJ is an Asian / Korean fashion inspired clothing line . Question: When did you first decide to be a designer in SL and what was your first design? Jaix: Originally I was part of a group, but I split apart from it in February. I cannot really remember what I made first because I made like 50 things in a month to open store.

Model: SETH DIABALITO

Model: Kingston K. Karter

XIAJ

Question: What are your other hobbies aside from designing, in Second Life? Jaix: I take pictures and blog for other stores. Question: How would you describe your personal style compared to what you create for XIAJ? Jaix: In real life I cannot afford such things I make x] I wear very plain clothes in real life, but if I could dress in what I make for XIAJ, I would Question: How did you decide, to do a male section for your brand? Jaix: It’s easier to do male clothing because I do not know what the females are looking for. Question: What’s your favorite male item, you have created? Why is it your favorite? Jaix: Specific male item I think would be the new sweaters I just mesh for The Mens Dept, because I spent a lot of time meshing it and texturing it. In general, I like my Canvas Backpacks for the same reason. Question: If you could only design with one color, what would it be?

Model: LAWRENCE D. PRYCE

XIAJ

Jaix: 50 Shades of Grey Question: If you could go back and change anything along the way, what would it be? Do you have any advice for new designers just getting started? Jaix: I would have never been in a group when I first started SL. That was bad experience for me and it made me become hateful and bitter. Now I learn it is better to not hate anymore and focus on yourself. Before, I created on SL because I wanted to prove I was better than the other guy and thinking this way caused much grief. But now I create because I want to self improve myself and my products. So advice I would give to new designers is to create because you want to be better for yourself. Question: What is next for XIAJ for the male section ? Jaix: It will be what it always have been. Just clothes that I like and hope others will enjoy too. Interview By: Milan

But how about this year you let both your hair and your ever-present guard down? Don’t: Do not let paranoia or any of those little annoyances prevent you from getting closer to the ones you love most. Trust and intimacy go hand and hand. Let go just for one night and show them how silly you can be when you’re not worried about your dark side being exposed. Oh and don’t get jealous if Little Ricardo chooses somebody else to be his spades partner there’s plenty of love to go around.

[Sagittarius] We’d like to interrupt your joke and/or story (because we know you’re probably doing one of the two while seated squarely in the middle of the action) to deliver a P.S.A. To all of our side-splittingly funny Sagittarius readers. It’s a wonder you found the time to fit in a family gathering what with all the globe-trotting your tribe is known to do. But nonetheless here you are in all of your gregarious wonder! Do: Your happy-go-lucky attitude is infectious and you are master conversationalist, however; chances are it’s been a while since anybody has seen you. Remember to sit still long enough for your Cousin Nate to show you his stamp collection. He’s been waiting since the last time you said “next time” two years ago. Okay... So you’d rather be mailing them from an exotic location while throwing back a steady stream of whatever the locals drink. Fair enough. But nothing endears you to a person more than a shared adventure. Sit, chat, trade stories, you won’t regret it. Don’t: Although your sign loves to keep it cool you can’t resist a good debate. You love to be intellectually stimulated. That’s great but how about this

year you exercise a wee bit of diplomacy? Avoid the urge to push the envelope and send your family reeling into a scene that mirrors a Maury segment. Who knows? Maybe this year instead of stuffing your mouth with your own foot you can replace it with a spoonful of mac&cheese? Bon Appetite!

[Capricorn] Nine times out of ten it is your house that is hosting the evening’s festivities. You are not only reliable and organized; you’ve got the bank account balance to prove it! You probably worked and saved for this ions before others had it on their radar. In addition, you’ve done everything humanly possible to ensure that all goes well. Your motto? : “No muss, no fuss.” You’re so disciplined and meticulous that we’re sure all the meals have been prepared, decorations hung, and you and your children (including the adults) are dressed to the nines for the occasion. Fabulous! Do: Be sure to take off from work so you can be in your rightful seat at the dinner table. You’re a hard worker and highly ambitious. When you set your sights on something you plug away until you get it. In most cases, you can have the patience of a saint when it comes to your loved ones. Where they fall short you will gladly pick up the slack. Please allow somebody else to take the reins this year. Your mission should you choose to accept is to take a load off. It’s probably the first time you’ve sat down in a long, long, long, time. Don’t: Bring your notorious poker face. You are incredibly funny, but many don’t a have clue unless they know you intimately (lest you taint your serious public image.) Oh Saturn ruled ones, how you love to relax when all the work is done. This year, don’t be so cautious and controlled. Wear every emotion you feel directly on your perfectly pressed sleeve for all to see. Your loved ones can’t wait to hear you say how much you love them. So tell them and bask in the glory of a job well done. Let’s

[Aquarius] Put down the protest sign or the wheat germ smoothie and let’s talk. You’re quirky and innovative. We love your free thinking, forward minded ways. You like to use family dinners as your sounding board to talk about your latest humanitarian project or shock them with anecdotes from your stay at a nudist colony. While you are unique you’re never boring or short of an controversial opinions. Do: Bring your millions of ideas and unique friends to share in the holiday festivities. Bring your tofu recipes and the latest guru health tips for Great Aunt Jessie’s gout. You always think of the most creative ways to resolve the complex problems so when little Crissy ties her shoelace in the most ridiculous Knot you find a way to fix it with ease and a clever smile. Don’t: Spontaneously decide that you would rather leg of lamb opposed to the turkey that already has been prepared for the entire family to eat. Just because you do not feel that peanut oil holds proper nutrients does not mean everyone’s else’s taste buds is the same as yours. So be considerate out and chill with the self righteousness in the spirit of togetherness.

[Pisces] We know you are out rescuing the newest injured animal through your area or making your martyr-like persona felt in this cruel heartless world trying to make it a better place. You have such a profoundly soft, dreamy, and easy demeanor and you’re generally pleasant to around because you

go with flow with just about anyone. Your sensitive nature makes it a breeze for you to understand anyone. Do: Bring the easel and art supplies to capture a hand painted portrait of your family in their best clothing. We all appreciate your boundless imaginativeness and easy breezy go with the flow energy that you give off. Don’t: Allow the children to convince you to paint their very own murals on Aunt Betty Sue’s wall and when there is hell to pay you are no where to be found because you can not bare to take the consequences of these actions. So do your best to have some direction this holiday season.
