Are We Addicted to Facebook, or Are We Just Addicted to Ourselves? Why is Facebook like crack cocaine? Here’s a little quiz: Do you find yourself on Facebook longer or more often than planned? Have you given up or reduced your involvement in social, occupational or recreational activities due to Facebook? Have you made a conscious but unsuccessful effort to reduce your Facebook “use”? For those of us for whom some or all of the above apply, we might wonder how it came to be that we started meeting psychiatric diagnostic criteria for addiction, not for heroin or alcohol, but for a social media site. It can’t possibly be the “like” function that makes us irritable and anxious when we can’t check our feed. So to what, exactly, are we addicted? A few recent neuroscience studies may give us a clue: It may be ourselves. What do I mean by this? Diana Tamir and Jason Mitchell at Harvard performed a simple study: They put people in their fMRI scanner and gave them a choice to (1) report their own opinions and attitudes, (2) judge the attitudes of another person, or (3) answer a trivia question, while they measured the participants’ brain activity. The catch was that each choice was associated with a monetary payoff, which allowed the scientists to test if individuals were basically willing to give up money to self-disclose.

And they were. On average, participants lost an average of 17 percent of potential earnings to think and talk about themselves! Why would anyone give up good money to do this? Not dissimilar to individuals who forgo job and family responsibilities due to various drug problems, during self-disclosure, these participants activated their Nucleus Accumbens -- the very brain region that lights up when someone takes cocaine or other drugs and is important in the development of addictions. A few good questions for people to ask themselves about whether they are addictive to Facebook or not include: 1. Have you tried to shut off your Facebook account and went right back to it? 2. Do you find yourself less productive in your work or studies? 3. Do you use Facebook as an escape for relaxation and pleasure? 4. Do you find yourself constantly checking how many people like your posts? If the answer to any of these questions is yes..you might have a Facebook compulsion or addiction.

These results may explain why Facebook is so popular. It likely isn’t Facebook itself (no offense, Mark Zuckerberg), it is all of the self-promoting features that it offers: posting what you are thinking, posting pictures of yourself, giving your opinion on what others post via “likes,” etc. And throw in a little intermittent reinforcement (e.g., not knowing when the next time someone will like or comment on your post -- indeed the same reinforcement schedule that casinos use), and Facebook has a winning formula (brilliant move Zuckerberg!). Or at least one that gets us hooked. With the growing use of social media as the norm for how we communicate, there is increasing evidence and suggestion that there may be a correlation between how often one uses social media and a linkage to mental health issues. The fact that a significant percentage of people check Facebook even before they get out of bed is an indication of the social anxieties and pressures that have been created by this new medium. I admire addicts. In a world where everybody is waiting for some bline, random disaster, or some sudden disease, the addict has the comfort of knowing what will most likely wait for him down the road. He’s taken some control over his ultimate fate, and his addiction keeps the cause of death from being a total surprise.

“You know you are addicted to Facebook when you log off Facebook, turn your computer off, go to bed, role over, and log onto your Facebook from your phone one last time for the night”

In fact, researchers have found vacation photos caused the highest level of resentment among Facebook users who reported to experience a high amount of envy. In a world already flooded with social pressures where teenagers and young adults are attempting to find their true identity and not be judged, Facebook has created a new standard of social acceptance. Social interaction has been rated as the second most common cause of envy especially when users compare how many likes or comments were made on their photos and postings.

Timber” is a song by American rapper Pitbull featuring American recording artist Ke$ha from Pitbull’s Extended Play (EP) Meltdown. The song was released on October 7, 2013 and as the album’s lead single . The song was produced by Dr. Luke, Cirkut, and Sermstyle, with additional production by Nick Seeley.[3] [4] The song interpolates “San Francisco Bay” (1979) by Danish harmonica player Lee Oskar, which was written by Lee Oskar, Keri Oskar, and Greg Errico. “Timber” features harmonica player Paul Harrington of Rockwall, Texas, who plays through the entire song. He was told to emulate harmonica player Lee Oskar of the band War.[5] “Timber” peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for three consecutive weeks, and has also topped the charts in Canada where it has stood at number one for eight consecutive weeks. Chris Brown Christopher Maurice “Chris” Brown (born May 5, 1989) is an American recording artist, dancer, and actor. Born in Tappahannock, Virginia, he taught himself to sing and dance at a young age and was involved in his church choir and several local talent shows. Having signed with Jive Records in 2004, Brown released his self-titled debut studio album the following year. It peaked at number two on the US Billboard 200 and was later certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). With his first single “Run It!” peaking atop the US Billboard Hot 100, Brown became the first male artist as a lead since Diddy in 1997 to have his debut single top the chart. His second album Exclusive (2007) spawned his second Hot 100 number one “Kiss Kiss”. Chris Respects Rihanna, But It’s Not Romantic While Chris and Rihanna are not talking again, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t respect her. While in rehab, he actually became grateful for their past relationship. “He’s real grateful and thankful that he has some of the strongest and most loyal women in his life,” a source close to him told HollywoodLife.com. “He wouldn’t be where he is today, a grown and changed man, if it wasn’t for his mother, Karrueche [Tran] and even his ex girlfriend [Rihanna], who he’s not talking to right now. He gives props where props is do and he’s learned many valuable lessons as a result of having those three special women in his life at one point or another.”

Enrique Iglesias Enrique Miguel Iglesias Preysler (English /ɛnˈriːkeɪ ɪˈɡlɛsiəs/; Spanish pronunciation: [enˈrike iˈɣlesjas], born May 8, 1975), simply known as Enrique Iglesias, is a Spanish-American singer-songwriter, actor, and record producer. Iglesias started his career in the mid-1990s on an American Spanish Language record label Fonovisa which helped turn him into one of the biggest stars in Latin America and the Hispanic Market in the United States becoming the biggest seller of Spanish-language albums of that decade. By the turn of the millennium he made a successful crossover into the mainstream market and signed a multi-album deal with Universal Music Group for an unprecedented US $48,000,000 with Universal Music Latino to release his Spanish albums and Interscope to release English albums. In 2010, he parted with Interscope and signed with another Universal Music Group label, Universal Republic. Iglesias has sold over 100 million units worldwide, making him one of the best selling Spanish language artists of all time.[3] He has had five Billboard Hot 100 top five singles, including two number-ones, and holds the record for producing 24 number-one Spanish-language singles on the Billboard’s Hot Latin Tracks. He has also had 13 number-one songs on Billboard’s Dance charts, more than any other single male artist.[4] Altogether, Iglesias has amassed more than 70 number-one rankings on the various Billboard charts.[5] Billboard has called him The King of Latin Pop and The King of Dance. Iglesias did not want his father to know about his plans for a musical career and did not want his famous surname to help advance his career. He borrowed money from his family nanny and he recorded a demo cassette tape which consisted of a Spanish song and two English songs. Approaching his father’s former publicist, Fernán Martínez, the two promoted the songs under the stage name ‘Enrique Martínez’ with the backstory of being an unknown singer from Guatemala.

The albums spawned the Billboard Hot 100 top two hit single “Pon de Replay” and her first Hot 100 number-one “SOS”. Her third studio album, Good Girl Gone Bad (2007), and its chart-topping lead single “Umbrella” were major breakthroughs in her career that brought her to widespread prominence. The album and its Reloaded version (2008) produced the worldwide hit singles “Don’t Stop the Music”, “Take a Bow”, and “Disturbia”. The record was nominated for nine Grammy Awards, winning Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for “Umbrella”. Following a highly-publicized altercation with then-boyfriend Chris Brown, she released her fourth studio album, Rated R, in November 2009. It was followed by three more albums: Loud (2010), Talk That Talk (2011), and her first Billboard 200 number one album Unapologetic (2012). Many of her songs rank among the world’s best-selling singles of all time, such as “Umbrella”, “Take a Bow”, “Disturbia”, “Only Girl (In the World)”, “S&M”, “We Found Love”, and “Diamonds”. In addition to her solo work, Rihanna has collaborated with numerous other artists, including being featured on the worldwide hits “Live Your Life” (with T.I.), “Love the Way You Lie” and “The Monster” (both with Eminem). Justin Timberlake

Justin Randall Timberlake (born January 31, 1981) is an American singer-songwriter, actor, record producer, businessman, and philanthropist. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, he appeared on the television shows Star Search and The All-New Mickey Mouse Club as a child. In the late 1990s, Timberlake rose to prominence as one of the two lead vocalists and youngest member of the boy band ‘N Sync, whose launch was financed by Lou Pearlman. During the group’s hiatus, Timberlake released his solo studio albums Justified (2002) and FutureSex/LoveSounds (2006); the former spawned hits “Cry Me a River” and “Rock Your Body”, while the latter debuted atop the U.S. Billboard 200 and produced the Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles “SexyBack”, “My Love”, and “What Goes Around... Comes Around”. With each album exceeding sales of seven million copies worldwide, he was established as one of the most commercially successful singers.

The boy band ‘N Sync formed in 1995, and began their career in 1996 in Europe; Timberlake and Chasez served as its two lead singers.[8] In 1998, the group rose to prominence in the United States with the release of their debut studio album *NSYNC, which sold 11 million copies and included hit single “Tearin’ Up My Heart”. Their second album No Strings Attached (2000) sold 2.4 million copies in the first week,[9] and included a #1 single, “It’s Gonna Be Me”. ‘N Sync’s third album Celebrity (2001) was also financially successful. Upon the completion of the Celebrity Tour, the group went into hiatus in 2002. In its lifetime, ‘N Sync was internationally famous and performed at the Academy Awards,[10] the Olympics,[11] and the Super Bowl,[12] as well as selling more than 50 million copies worldwide,[13] becoming the thirdbest selling boy band in history.[14] In late 1999, Timberlake made his acting debut in the Disney Channel movie Model Behavior. He played Jason Sharpe, a model who falls in love with a waitress after mistaking her for another model. It was released on March 12, 2000.[15] The rise of his own stardom and the general decline in the popularity of boy bands led to the dissolution of ‘N Sync. Band member Lance Bass was openly critical of Timberlake’s actions in his memoir Out of Sync.[16] Chasez also stated several times that the reunion will probably never happen,[17] and he went on to repeat this statement in 2011 and 2012.[18][19][20] Chris Kirkpatrick and Joey Fatone, however, have said that a reunion is possible, with both saying that anything could happen in the future. [21][22] In August 2002, Timberlake performed at the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards, where he premiered his debut solo single “Like I Love You”;[23] it peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100.[24] His debut solo studio album Justified was released in November[25] and debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 439,000 copies, fewer than previous ‘N Sync releases.
