AMERICAN IN THE INDY BOWL

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE TO PLAY IN 2024 INDEPENDENCE BOWL

The Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl and the American Athletic Conference announced a partnership on Monday that will bring a team from The American to the 2024 Independence Bowl – set for Saturday, December 28 at 8:15 p.m. CT/9:15 p.m. ET on ESPN.

"We are proud to partner with The American to bring one of their teams to Shreveport this December. We pride ourselves on being one of the most hospitable bowls in college football, and we can't wait to host them and provide their student-athletes and staff with a tremendous Bowl Week experience," said Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl Executive Director Missy Setters. "The American is having a great season and has many high-quality teams, and we are looking forward to an exciting matchup between them and a current or former Pac-12 team."

The tie-in with The American replaces the 2024 stand-alone tie-in with Army West Point, as the Black Knights joined The American beginning this year. The American features 14 football members – UAB, Army West Point, Charlotte, East Carolina, Florida Atlantic, Memphis, Navy, North Texas, Rice, South Florida, Temple, UTSA, Tulane and Tulsa.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

FRIDAY

// 7 PM CT // FOX

• USC has lost four of their last five games and look to get back to .500 and two wins away from bowl eligibility.

RUTGERS

The Trojans passing offense ranks 22nd in the country (288.6 yards per game). Miller Moss threw for 336 yards and 3 TDs last week vs. Maryland, but Moss has now thrown an INT in five straight games. He will look to protect the ball this week.

• USC's defense has only allowed 223.0 yards per game passing this year, but they have allowed 386.5 per game the last two games. They will look to find that early-season defensive success this week.

SATURDAY

// 11 AM CT // ESPNU

• Memphis is one of the first teams bowl eligible after defeating North Texas, 52-44, last weekend.

• Memphis is a very solid all-around, and their only loss came at the hands of Navy. The Tigers rank 4th in the AAC in yards per game (431.3), 5th in points per game (34.1), 4th in yards allowed per game (351.9) and 3rd in points allowed per game (19.9).

• Veteran Memphis QB Seth Henigan is 2nd in the AAC in passing (1866 yards).

• Charlotte has won two of their last three, including a 31 point victory over East Carolina.

SATURDAY

// 5 PM CT // FS1

A pair of squads looking to get back to .500 on the season.

• Arizona has lost three straight. The Cats need to find something on offense, as they have struggled to score points. In their last five games, Arizona is scoring just 15.6 points. In that same span, they are allowing 31.4.

• The Cats have the talent to make it happen. QB Noah Fifita was one of the top returning QBs in the country, and WR Tetairoa McMillan is 6th in the nation in receiving yards (780). The Cats can fix a lot of issues by cleaning up their turnover problems (130th in FBS with 2.5 turnovers per game).

SATURDAY

// 11 AM CT // ESPN2

• Two teams playing good football in the American Athletic Conference that are one win away from Bowl Season. North Texas QB Chandler Morris is 2nd in the country in passing (2424 yards). The Mean Green rank 9th in the FBS in points scored (41.3 per game).

• Tulane has won four straight after losing to Oklahoma and Kansas State. Their offense is 11th in the country in scoring (40.7 points per game). They also rank 22nd in rushing (205.3 yards per game). Green Wave RB Makhi Hughes is 12th in the country in rushing yards (744 yards).

SATURDAY // 3 PM CT // ESPN2

• Two teams looking to get back in the win column and climb toward bowl eligibility.

Oregon State ranks 8th in the FBS in rushing (239 yards per game). RB Anthony Hankerson leads the way with 700 yards (16th in the FBS). Cal has lost their last four games, but those four games have been decided by a total of nine points. Two of those losses have come to ranked teams (39-38 vs. Miami and 17-15 vs. Pitt).

Cal's defense will be a tough test for the Beavs, as they allow just 18.7 points (2nd in the ACC) and 104.6 rushing yards per game (3rd in the ACC).

SATURDAY

// 6 PM CT // ESPN+

Utah looks to get back in the win column after three straight losses.

• The Utes have been battling health troubles at QB. Super senior starter Cam Rising is now out for the season. Utah turned to freshman Isaac Wilson. Wilson has 1029 yards, 7 TDs and 8 INTs this season. OC Andy Ludwig stepped down this week, and Interim OC Mike Bajakian will try to spark the Utah offense.

• Their defense has been great, allowing just 16.4 points (12th in the FBS) and 305.6 yards per game (20th). If the Utes can find more consistent offense, they could go on a run to end the season.
