How to manufacture a lighting family for a city within a city? e

Dubai Festival City is a city within a city. As of 2015, shopping streets, entertainment areas, hotels, schools, business districts and residential areas will form an entirely new urban district covering an area of over 650 hectares. The American lighting design studio Visual Terrain worked in close collaboration with ewo to create the lighting for both the main and secondary streets. To emphasise the individuality of this new district, a brand new family of luminaires with its own language of form was developed, along with the tools required to construct it in a very short period of time.

The Bugatti Veyron is a car of outstanding quality. Fittingly, the unveiling of the 1001 HP Supercar in the Principality of Monaco was arranged as an exclusive event. The lighting concept had to be seamlessly and subtly incorporated within the presentation structure. The architect Gustavo Carabajal, a partner in the Spanish architectural studio Carlos Ferrater, was asked to design a new look for Jesolo. The small Italian town on the Adriatic coast was to receive a new centre, representing a simple and contemporary focal point of life in the town. Carabajal opened the town up to the sea and UHGHVLJQHG 3LD]]D 0DQ]LQL ,Q GLUHFW FROODERUDtion with the planning group, ewo developed lighting systems to illuminate the square, which are not only sculpture-like but also equipped with an extremely precise lighting technology. The individually manufactured luminaires make use of a secondary lighting technology through which the glare effect is reduced, the light achieves a higher degree of uniformity and WKH DUHD WR EH OLW FDQ EH SUHFLVHO\ GH多QHG 7KH result is a lighting atmosphere which is admired by locals and tourists alike.

Public transport is directly linked to the shopping centre while customer car parks are adjacent. The special lighting system needs of an airport apron. e

The architecture of Marco Polo airport speaks clearly with its analogies to the Venetian shipyards and the traditional materials used such as bricks and copper. This is why the lighting concept for the new terminal demanded this clarity. The light requirements for this project presented a real challenge: the positioning of the masts to the left and right of the Gateway towers was dictated, and as a result, special left and right-aligned facets had to be developed. A direct light system is unable to meet these extreme light-steering requirements. In addition, each luminaire had to cover an area of 115 m x 80 m with an average illuminance of 20 - 27 lx and a uniformity of 1:2. The reduced glare effect, which considerably contributes to the visual comfort of taxiing pilots, was also an important deciding factor in opting for a secondary system. A residential building is located in one corner of the area to be lit and it was forbidden to illuminate its façade. ewo solved the problem by using an ewoReÀHFW V\VWHP VSHFLDOO\ PHDVXUHG SDUWV RI WKH LQdividual mirror facets were covered with a black PDWW SDLQW WKHUHE\ GLVDEOLQJ WKH OLJKW UHÀHFWLRQ functionality. Each luminaire is housed in a glossy stainless steel box. A second, narrower box is attached to it to facilitate the mounting on to the masts or wall. The demands for high quality throughout the building can be seen in even the smallest detail. It goes without saying that this is also incorporated into the development of the luminaires.

Sigmundskron Castle can be seen from miles around, enthroned on a cliff top overlooking the FLW\ RI %RO]DQR 7KH PHGLHYDO IRUWUHVV ZDV OHIW to ruin until the creation of the Messner Mountain Museum, which tells of the origins, vastness and conquests of the mountains. 7KH DV PXFK IDVFLQDWLQJ DV GLIÂżFXOW WDVN RI PDNLQJ WKH KLVWRULFDO IRUWLÂżFDWLRQ DFFHVsible once more was incumbered upon architect Werner Tscholl. His creed: respect for the structure steeped in history, a linear concept and reliable partners. With this in mind, ewo was confronted with the task of creating lights which would do justice to the historical surroundings with as little shape and colour as possible. The basic character of the lights which were developed, the simplicity of WKHLU VWHHO SURÂżOHV DV ZHOO DV WKH FKDQJLQJ FRORXU of the rust, blends in with the reddish porphyry of the castle.

Winters in Nordic regions are bleak. Hence, the 1RUZHJLDQ ÂżQDQFH FRPSDQ\ 6WRUHEUDQG KDG D SDUWLFXODU ZLVK FRQFHUQLQJ WKH JHQHURXVO\ VL]HG atrium at its headquarters in Oslo: a lighting system which emulates the sun. Alongside the compulsory basic lighting, the requested system should create the illusion of sunshine – at least for the short time it takes for users to enter the building and cross the atrium. The “sunâ€? developed by ewo has a diameter of PHWUHV ,W LV EDVHG RQ HZR5HĂ€HFW WHFKQROogy and is illuminated by nine spotlights. In this way, the “sunâ€? does not require its own electrical installation, as only the spotlights which are attached to the upper footbridge need an electricity supply.

Winter im nordischen Raum sind dĂźster. Die von ewo entwickelte „Sonne“ hat einen Durchmesser von 2,5 Metern und wird – basierend DXI HZR5HĂ€HFW 7HFKQRORJLH Âą YRQ QHXQ :HUfern angestrahlt. So braucht die Sonne keine eigene Elektroinstallation, da lediglich die an der BrĂźstung montierten Werfereinheiten mit Strom versorgt werden mĂźssen.
