RAFAEL MORAIS IS A PORTUGUESE ARCHITECT BORN IN SAO PAULO, BRASIL IN 1986. IN 2004 IS ADMITED IN UNIVERSIDADE LUSIADA DE VILA NOVA DE FAMALICAO, WHERE STUDIED ARCHITECTURE BETWEEN 2004 AND 2011. IN 2011 HE ACCOMPLISHED HIS STUDY IN ARCHITECTURE WITH THE THESIS “PRAISE OF THE LIGHT: THE ART OF ARTIFICIAL LIGHTING IN THE URBAN CONTEXT”. como referência o alinhamento das piscinas exteriores existentes, que se pretendem integrar na proposta,
passando pela demolição dos campos de ténis existentes, respectivas bancadas e o edifício composto pela associação, cafetaria e instalações sanitárias.
O conceito de intervenção parte da “casa pátio” como elemento matriz para o desenvolvimento do projecto. Este foi reinterpretado e levado ao extremo, tendo como referência os núcleos urbanos característicos das povoações gregas e romanas, onde o pátio é um elemento espacial e social de extrema importância.
No conceito “casa pátio”, o pátio surge como elemento unificador, ordenador do espaço. A morfologia do edifício adquire a sua essência com a sua presença, não sendo possível dissociar a casa do pátio e vice versa. O pátio não surge assim como espaço sobrante da construção mas sim é o vazio que juntamente com o cheio fazem um todo.

Numa primeira fase interpretamos a alga como um ele-
mento marítimo e o fungo como um elemento terrestre.
A
associação destes dois elementos é o que torna possível à alga sobreviver em zona terrestre.
O facto de a praia
apresentar um extenso areal, faz com que grande parte
deste, seja subaproveitado, criando uma barreira entre a utilização da praia e o espaço público.
Com o entrelaçar da alga com o fungo, esta realidade é contrariada, tornando a distância entre o mar e a marginal, menor, potenciando o espaço antes subaproveitado, agora numa maior valia. Através de uma relação simbiótica de mutualismo propomos uma estrutura amovível de madeira, bem como a colocação de equipamentos nesta estrutura. Assim, a distância entre a marginal e o mar é encurtada aproximando as pessoas do mar, e dotando um espaço subaproveitado de valências que permitam aos utilizadores, uma maior vivência e exploração deste.
Esta estrutura em conjunto
com os diversos equipamentos e espaços de socialização propostos, fazem com que a marginal se torne mais har-

moniosa com o seu desenho orgânico, e interactivo com os utilizadores.

O
O território localiza-se no concelho de Velas, da Ilha de São Jorge do grupo central do arquipélago dos Açores. É caracterizado por elementos montanhosos cuja maior elevação é o Pico da Esperança. A paisagem é dominada por campos agrícolas reticulados e terrenos de pasto.
Assim sendo, da observação destes elementos deu-se uma primeira forma estruturante à intervenção, ou seja, a inter-relação entre elemento vertical ( os Picos e os relevos orograficos) que parecem sugerir uma forma ao edifício numa sucessão de coberturas e águas inclinadas, expostas e interactivas de maneira sustentável com os
elementos atmosféricos, e a parte numa cota mais baixa
(o planalto) que funciona de plataforma para a implantação do edifício. Nas zonas baixas da ilha, a divisão das propriedades agrí-

colas e a separação das culturas levaram ao recorte

The territory is located in Velas, Sao Jorge Island in the central group of the Azores archipelago. It is
characterized by mountainous elements whose highest elevation is the

dominated by agricultural fields and pasture land.
Through the observation of these elements we made a first action to its structure, that is, the interrelationship between the vertical member (Peaks reliefs and orographic) that would suggest a building to form a succession of sloping roofs, exposed in a sustainable way and interactive with the atmospheric elements, and in the lower level (the plateau) that functions as a platform for the deployment of the building. In the lowlands of the island, the division of farms and the separation of cultures led to the division of the
region delineated by geometric terraced stone walls, and shrubs.
This type of culture therefore suggests a

Ao longo de 3 dias, o desafio proposto consistia em desenvolver uma proposta para um espaço no “campus” da Universidade Lusíada do Porto, utilizando como material de eleição a cortiça, proposta essas que ao longo da

sua génese foi alvo de apreciações pontuais por parte do
Arquitecto Kengo Kuma. Após um estudo das propriedades da cortiça, costatouse que esta é um material 100% natural, é um material que tem memória e um elevado nível de elasticidade.O lo-
cal de intervenção foi um antigo reservatório de água em que o objectivo seria a criação de um espaço de dormir para duas pessoas.
O conceito utilizado como para a intervenção, surgiu
através de uma analogia com o método de fazer cestos,

The place set for the proposal is located in Vila Nova de Famalicão, near the Sinçães park. This place is abandoned, in a state of great degradation and expectant. The Business Centre project is defined by a peculiar geometry plan inherited some Roman mosaics, where by two polygons as the square and lozenge, lets you create a continuous surface on a plane. The site selected for the proposed residence is located in Famalicão, in a transition zone between high scale buildings, and buildings of a smaller scale, in particular neighborhoods. The shape of the building rises alignment of surrounding roads that are on the ground, providing continuity and parallel therewith. Then the volume was sectioned in order to promote greater dynamism. This ensures a transition more balanced between the scale of the city and the neighborhood. In the face of the building which is faced to neighborhood, volumes were added, thus reproducing an analogy to the houses of the neighborhood, connecting to a larger entity, the city. The added volumes have a different character from the rest of the building by the fact that they are duplex apartments. In addition, the material that coats these
