Happy New Year! We are leaving behind a very complicated 2020, we simply hope that the coming year will be calmer. We, as ML Magazine, enter our third calendar year of life. We will try to continue that path of growth that began in the previous two years and which continued, despite everything, even in one of the most complicated, difficult and painful periods that history can remember. In this issue, which opens in 2021, we have tried to describe a proactive and positive world to try to ensure that, as Biagio Antonacci sings, “there will be new life, there will be summers, colors will come back “. In a very difficult season, however, there was the opportunity to carry on a project that, between one joke and the next, Raffaella and I had liked so much: following the World Championship as much as possible on the ground. See the world, not just the cities, and not passing from one airport to another through the circuits but also ob-
serving what exists around it. Since all the races are held basically in Europe and having to try to avoid contact with the outside world, we therefore took the opportunity to try this new experience. So let’s open this issue with a small photographic story of what this season has been like from this point of view and what this way of traveling can allow you to do. They are travel photos, they are photos captured on the fly while Raffaella drove the car in these approximately 26,000 km traveled from July to November where sometimes the roads were the same, many times they were different but always with the opportunity to see new things or photographically different, if only for the different times we crossed it. It was certainly a tiring but equally rewarding experience. We told it in our own way, through many photographs, some more descriptive, some more creative, in order to share our experience. Now let’s look ahead, hoping to be able to start again in health and within the established times. In any case, this 2020 season
will remain in the annals: as we say among us insiders but not only, none of us will ever forget it. A year that, professionally speaking, was exciting, certainly particular, where different values were required than the previous ones. And not just driving. With an unexpected winner but who certainly deserved the title: Joan Mir. A season that led to Vale’s decision to continue his career yet another year, which gave us the opportunity to tell you many other stories as you will see in this same issue. Issue 01/2021 that we conclude with images relating to these holidays too, images that show Christmas in two of the most iconic cities in the world: New York and Venice. Which even under lockdown keep traditions and charm intact. Happy 2021 again everyone!

“And this, of course, also works with portraits, which of course classic portraits are not. Look closely at Valentino. If he reminds you of Steve McQueen, he is not the glam one, but the dusty and sublime one of Papillon: finally returned to his real condition as a man made beyond the cliché of an eternal boy, his face in black and white is the summary of a life, the synthesis of his perpetual motion, the family tree of his races detail after detail, effort after effort, wrinkle after wrinkle, frame after frame. The half-gaze, one eye open and the other closed, is the meeting point between the past and the future, the glory already won and the one still to be pursued. In the reflection of his glasses, the crowd, behind him a shadow: it is the plot of an existence, the plot of a thriller, the mystery that we are all.” ⚫ ALEX PASINI taken from the presentation of the exhibition “Speed Painting” by Mirco Lazzari
