The Little Mermaid Mermaids have human bodies and fish tails. They live deep under the sea. When they are 15 years old they can swim to the surface to watch the world above.

2

Pearl the little mermaid is a princess. She has a beautiful voice, everyone loves her songs.

3

Today it is her 15th birthday, so she swims to the surface. From a distance she sees a ship. She hears music and sees people dancing. It is the prince’s engagement party. He is going to marry a rich princess.

4

The prince is handsome and Pearl falls in love with him! She wants to dance with him, but she can’t.

5

Suddenly the sky becomes dark. There is a terrible storm and the ship rocks violently. The prince falls into the sea, down and down.

6

Pearl swims down and she saves him from drowning. Then she takes him to the beach. He is unconscious. “Oh no! I must return to the sea. Goodbye! says the little mermaid.

7

Back home underwater Pearl goes to the Sea Witch, a mermaid with magic powers. “I want to be human,” says Pearl, “I love that prince. Please help me.”

8

“Drink this special potion.” says the Sea Witch, “It will give you human legs, but only in exchange for your beautiful voice.” Pearl agrees.
