Your 1st Choice in Real Estate Supporting Garrett County’s Youth The WGW Community Youth Cup is a weekend charity event focused on raising money for the youth of Garrett County. Founded in 2012 by Railey Realty co-owner and agent Bill Weissgerber, the WGW Community Youth Cup has raised more than $650,000 in the past seven years. This year alone, the event brought in approximately $166,700. The primary charities associated with the organization are Landon’s Library, Samantha Funding the Arts, and The Andrew
Woods Memorial Scholarship. Other local youth-focused charities that have received funding from this event include I Can Swim!, Garrett Mentors, The Chris Lantz Memorial Scholarship Fund, and the Learning Beyond the Classroom Bus. Each of these organizations helps to enrich the lives of the youth in our local community. The WGW Community Youth Cup features golf tournaments at Lodestone and the Oakland Golf Course, Samantha’s Color Fun Run, Silent & Live Auctions, and the WGW
Garrett County Infrastructure Update
The Western Conveyance Project, which covered adding public sewer and water lines to areas around the lake, has been completed. Section II covered Marsh Hill Road, Shingle Camp Road, Shingle Camp Terrace, Sandy Shores Road, Stockslager Road, Sandy Beach Lane, and Penelacres Lane. Property owners in the completed areas will receive a letter from the county explaining the process to hook up to the public

The current fees for connecting to the public system are: $6,500 Equivalent Residential User (ERU) fee; $3,000 Sewer Connection Fee (applied to each ERU fee); $2,000 or $2,320 Water Tap Fee, depending on construction; and an
additional $975 per half bath over 3 bathrooms. Each home connecting to the sewer lines will need a grinder system installed, which start just over $6,000 for a simplex grinder system (1-7 bedrooms). Garrett County Tourism Continues to Thrive Garrett County’s tourism metrics continue to show increases as we move towards the end of FY18. Heads on Beds in Garrett County is up 12.2%, Accommodation Sales Collections is up 6.3%, and tourism sales tax revenue is up 5.5%. While these numbers are encouraging on their own, they’re even more impressive when compared to other areas in Maryland and the state as a whole. The state of Maryland realized an increase of 2% in tourism sales tax revenues compared to Garrett County’s 5.5% increase. Garrett County and the Deep Creek

Lake area have consistently seen increases in tourism-based metrics. The Garrett County Chamber of Commerce has been hard at work developing new ways to promote our area, including their new 360 degree virtual tour. These increases help give Garrett County and Deep Creek Lake more leverage when applying for funding. As a largely tourism fueled area, receiving additional funding to help promote our area and funds to maintain and protect our area are vital for Deep Creek’s future success. Garrett County received just
under $100,000 in state tourism marketing match grant funds, which is 6.6% higher than the previous year. The county has also been able to secure funding for the State Lake Restoration & Protection fund and secured increased funding for tourism promotion. We’re very excited to see Garrett County and Deep Creek Lake growing! From restaurants to vacation rentals to real estate, all of the area businesses share the same goal: promote and share our beautiful area with visitors.
DC’s Restaurant at Wisp Resort has permanently closed. A new restaurant will be opening that will offer a pay-one-price style buffet that allows the customer to pick what they want off the menu. The new restaurant should be open by the start of ski season. Stay tuned!
