In addition to the block party, Railey Realty will also be giving back to the lake in a different way. For all transactions closed in the month of June, Railey Realty will donate $25 per sale to the Deep Creek Watershed Foundation. You can read more about the foundation on the opposite page.

In addition to another stellar year of tourism in the Deep Creek Lake area, local vacation rental company Railey Vacations has also reported a 13% growth in homeowner profits over previous years. Garrett County welcomes roughly 1.2M visitors each year – a fantastic amount for such a small community. In the last decade, all stats for Garrett County tourism

have increased, usually outpacing the state of Maryland when it comes to growth. As the area’s leading vacation rental company, Railey Vacations has seen first-hand the growth of tourism around the lake area. Just in the last several months, total bookings were up 13%. Using a state of the art, industry specific pricing tool and 35+ years of in-

house experience, Railey Vacations is able to maximize homeowner profits while still providing the best service possible for their renters. As for 2020, Railey Vacations is already 14% above their 2019 bookings as of March 2020. These numbers are very encouraging for Garrett County and Deep Creek Lake!

A brand new lakeside bar is coming to the shores of Deep Creek Lake this summer! Located on the lawn beside Ace’s Run Restaurant & Pub and Will O’ The Wisp, this new venue combines modern

architecture with a love of the lake.

Featuring an expansive glass front, outdoor seating, indoor seating, and room for live music, patrons will be able to enjoy every season in style. Local restauranteur and

businesswoman Brenda McDonnell is the power force and genius behind this new bar. It’s not only a great addition to our night-life spots, but it will create several new jobs. Estimated opening date is June.

The Deep Creek Lake Resort Report Deep Creek Watershed Foundation Hard at Work

The Deep Creek Watershed Foundation has wasted no time getting off the ground and into action. Founded in 2016, the DCWF’s mission is to improve the environmental stability and economic viability of the Deep Creek Watershed while working to retain the rural landscape and natural beauty of the area. The watershed itself encompasses Deep Creek Lake and the surrounding areas, rivers, and tributaries that all affect the lake itself. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and Garrett County partnered in 2013 to create a comprehensive plan for the management of the watershed to help preserve and protect Deep Creek Lake. As Maryland’s largest freshwater lake and one of the largest tourist attractions for Garrett County, it’s important that

preventative measures are taken now to help keep the watershed and lake thriving. The foundation was created to help provide the funding needed to successfully implement the Watershed Management Plan.

The DCWF’s primary projects and initiatives include a new method for predicting and monitoring the water level of Deep Creek Lake, managing storm water runoff, neutralizing acid mine drainage from Cherry Creek into the lake, and assisting in the effort to prevent zebra mussels from inhabiting Deep Creek Lake. This year, the foundation hopes to install water quality monitors throughout the lake area to establish a baseline for water levels so that the effects of storm water, boat wakes, and changing water levels can be more clearly identified. These efforts will help ensure that Deep Creek Lake

and the entire watershed area are healthy for generations to come.
