GALA DINNER & ‘MOST INTERESTING AWARDS’ If you only attend one industry awards event this year, it has to be this one. The Most Interesting Awards is the end of year gala dinner for the ever popular Rail Exec Club. The event will be held at The Roundhouse in Derby. A restored events venue steeped in railway history. Not content with being just another celebratory networking event, The Most Interesting Awards will be a themed extravaganza called the City Stomp. It is NOT to be missed. Unlike most industry awards, The Most Interesting Awards do not require you to enter or fill out endless forms!

‘THE MOST INTERESTING’ AWARDS

HOW DO THE MI AWARDS WORK? It is simple, you need to do nothing! If you talked with the editorial team about your Company’s work during the year, it was entered automatically. At Rail Media we always have our collective ear to the ground and are constantly keeping up to date with major developments within the industry. We see and hear of all projects, as and when they happen. This puts us in the perfect position to decide which are the most interesting things going on in the industry. We also have the editors and writers at The Rail Engineer with their unrivalled knowledge of projects and developments on the railway, whilst RailStaff’s team have the upper hand on all things railway operations and safety. Each month we choose those projects that we think are the Most Interesting. In October the finalist’s are sent to a panel of industry experts who choose our winners. The winner of each category will be announced on the night.

“My view is the rail industry needs to move on from what it’s been doing in the last 50, 100 years. So to do something like this, the most interesting, is a different way of looking at things but it also allows you to concentrate on the good that has happened that may cross boundaries.” Keith Jordan, MD Hitachi Rail Europe

WHO ATTENDS? The night is not just about the finalists.

Over half of our table sales are corporate seats. Why? Well, as with any of the Rail Exec Club events, it is about networking at the highest level. The night will allow our members time to network, reflect and learn more about the projects that are coming up in the industry. Unlike other similar events, the Most Interesting Awards have a rail engineering focus and attract attendees from all areas of rail. Companies in attendance last year included Network Rail, London Underground, Crossrail, Balfour Beatty, Colas Rail, Progress Rail, Abellio, First Group to name but a few.

CITY STOMP 2015 A blend of high energy, passion and absolute decadence envelops you as we transport you into an evening of bright lights and glamour. Welcome to New York: the city that never sleeps. Leaving the wintery evening behind you, as you approach the historic Roundhouse the chill melts away when you are greeted by the spectacular excitement and glamour of New York City. Leaving your coat at the Broadway ticket office, the bright city lights entice you towards the dazzling library bar. Times Square greets you with it’s striking scenery and hypnotising beams of light that dance around the room, bouncing off mirror balls and leading you around the elegant and high-class bars, sampling delectable drinks and mingling with the other glamorous guests. As the evening begins to take shape and spectacular entertainers take to the stage with outstanding acrobatics and professional dance troupes you sample the delectable offerings of the Manhattan bars. Serving an assortment of classic cocktails, professional bar men will create anything from a simple G&T to a New York Sourz. All you need to do is relax and soak up the electric atmosphere that surrounds you. Throughout the luscious three course dinner, the stages are lit up by various acts of enchanting entertainment and aerial acrobatics. As the dinner comes to a close, it is time for the main event of the night, the Most Interesting Awards. Fingers will be crossed and tensions running high as each presenter reveals who we have chosen as the best in class for 2015. Will it be just one company or a project will multiple partners? Only time will tell. Then the dance floor is ready to be filled and the casino and fairground stalls come alive. While some may choose to join the fairground fun and whizz round on the dodgems or dance the night away, others may choose to relax with coffee and chocolates in quiet elegance. Either way, the night has been one that will never be forgotten.

“It’s a great way to recognise things that are new, things that are innovative, things that capture people’s imagination. If we continually do the developments in this industry in a traditional way, nobody has the excitement that they really need to break the boundaries.” Allan Spence, Director, Safety Strategy Network Rail

THE

VENUE: THE ROUNDHOUSE As the world’s first railway roundhouse, built in 1839 by the likes of North Midland Railway engineers George and Robert Stephenson, The Roundhouse in Derby couldn’t be a more fitting venue for this year’s MI Awards.

In 2008, the building was restored and repaired whilst maintaining the authenticity. The 12-metre engine turntable and now glass covered inspection pit can still be found under the original beamed ceiling and overhead cranes. Well connected to both the A52 and M1 and situated within the historic Railway Quarter, the venue is a mere 1/2 mile from the city centre and only a few steps from the city train station. There are a multitude of hotels all within walking distance.
