Eight Things That make us great

Our Excellent Examination Results Every year we achieve excellent A-level results. Independent groups have recognised these results as being amongst the best in the country. Historically, A-level results have been graded in the top 10% of all A-level providers. Similarly, our vocational courses have placed us in the top 20 colleges of all post-16 providers, with BTEC Applied Science being the best in the country.
Our Small Class Sizes On average we have eight students in every class. This allows our staff to give personalised support to every student and to ensure that all students make the progress they need to secure excellent exam results. One to one seminars are routine. Our teaching can be geared around you, your needs and interests.
Teachers who Care about YOU We know you as individuals, and we treat you as one. Staff are always available to offer subject support to ensure that any gaps in knowledge are dealt with early to avoid future problems. This dedication to our students in supporting their progress sets us apart from other colleges. We know your strengths and weaknesses and work with you to ensure you achieve your goals.
Personalised Support Our Sixth Form Pastoral support is outstanding. We provide one to one help with your UCAS application. Each student has a form tutor who supports them during their two years in our Sixth Form. All our form tutors are trained in providing advice to our students around their next steps and take particular interest in the progress of all of their students. In addition to this is we have a dedicated KS5 progress manager and a KS5 pastoral manager who will provide you with support and guidance throughout your time here. Again, such personalised support is simply not on offer at other local providers
Eight Things That make us great
Arts and Science Academies Getting into the top Universities to study Science or the Arts is very competitive. The Science and Arts Academies provide a package of additional opportunities to strengthen your University applications. Since their inception all of our Science and Arts Academy students have been successful in getting a place at their first choice university course. This is because they have gained a wealth of of experience, understanding and additional qualifications from their time in the Sixth Form in addition to their excellent A-level grades.
Elite Programme We have many students who having achieved a high number of A* grades at GCSE wish to follow a path which takes them to the top Russell group universities. There are specific aspects of support which are required to give students the best chance of achieving this goal and the Elite group seeks to meet those needs through regular ‘check-in’ meetings, support with work experience or enrichment and an opportunity to take part in a residential to the University of Warwick where you will sample lectures and seminars and get a taste of student life. Our Elite Programme students find themselves uniquely placed for success.
Partnerships & Opportunities
There are many exciting opportunities which take place beyond the classroom at Rainhill 6th Form Centre. We are proud to have forged links with two Elite universities in the form of the University of Warwick and Leeds University. Our students take part in unique University activities which are not open to students in other colleges. Both universities also visit Rainhill to deliver tailored programmes and to share their expertise with students and staff. With opportunities such as an expedition (most recently to Peru), Duke of Edinburgh, National Citizen Service, Arts and Science Academies, trips to New York & Paris, the highly sought after Extended Project Qualification and opportunities to take part in work experience throughout the year you’ll see that it really is quite a package.
Destinations For the last 3 years, every student who has wanted to go to University has got in to either their number one or second preference university course. More than a quarter of all our Sixth Form students go to Russell Group Universities and all of our students who choose to follow a high level apprenticeship are successful in getting their choice.

Chemistry
Qualification – AQA – A-Level Chemistry Chemistry is the study of the substances that make both us and the things that surround us. If we did not understand what these substances were or how they work, we could not cure diseases, develop new materials or respond to and correct changes in our environment. The clothes we wear, the homes in which we live and the cars that we drive would not exist without chemists. The study of chemistry gives you the opportunity to develop a wide range of key skills, including oral and written communication, working in teams, problemsolving and the use of IT. Chemistry is a very challenging subject but it can also be exciting, stimulating and enjoyable. The study of Chemistry provides a sound basis for both science and nonscience based degree courses. A good grade in Chemistry A-Level is a requirement of many science degree courses. In itself, the course is a fascinating exploration of how the atoms and molecules interact. It is made up of three specific areas, Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry. The lessons will be a mixture of teacher-led activities that promotes independent learning, practical experimental work and student presentations. At times you will be expected to work in a group and at other times individually. The course includes written examinations, continual practical assessment and assignments. In studying Chemistry you will automatically be enrolled into the Science Academy.
