1st Grade

Socio-emotional Learning

Project Oops

Take risks, turn mistakes into opportunities manipulating paper. Digital citizenship

Online safety

Physical Computing: Robotics

Kaibot

Handheld robot with cards and commands to solidify coding principles learned in code.org.

Introduction to Computational Thinking Code.org

Course A

Unplugged activities to learn logic and sequencing in computer programming. By solving increasingly dicult puzzles online, students learn about algorithms, spatial awareness, and problem solving

2nd Grade Socio-emotional Learning

+ Coding

Inspired by the picture book, Big Al, students create stories about kindness and inclusion in Scratch, Jr.

Students make Kindness Aquariums by coding multi-scene stories using dialogue, movement, sequencing.

Computational Thinking Code.org

Course C

By solving increasingly dicult puzzles online, students learn about algorithms, spatial awareness, and problem- solving.

(Continuation of 1st Grade Code org)

Physical Computing Kaibot Advanced

Students code a handheld robot using card with commands that teach ogic and problem so ving, pattern recognition, how to write more ecient code by using loops.

Hand-Building Nets

Students fold a 2D net of a cube to form cubes, which they use as dies for a math game in their math classroom.

Stop Motion Animation

In connection with their studies of birds in Science class, students will create a stop-motion animation, which teaches others about the way birds care about their young.

Design Thinking

Designing for Our School Community

Students learn about the different roles people in our school community play, research their needs, build prototypes of possible personalized devices.

Mapping Our Community +

Coding

Explore floor plans in the school building and map the space with its activity by coding it in Scratch Jr.

Hand-Building Nets

Making paper dreidels by folding 2D nets to make a 3D shape; fold nets of a cube, a pyramid, and a cylinder. how to connect the different shapes into one 3D object.

Engineering Challenges

Building bridges using only paper sheets with increased weight for each challenge. Design for Environment

Learn the origins of materials and how they are discarded. Through hands-on projects. understand concepts of reuse, recycle, repurpose, and upcycle.

3D Digital Design + Augmented Reality

Middot Marks

Learn 3D design creation; build a model of their physical Middot Mark building in a 3D space.

3D Digital Design and 3D Printing

Father’s Day Frames

Students build on the skills developed in the previous unit to design an object that can be 3D printed.

Physical Computing Robotics Marty

Students apply skills built in Scratch, Jr to Marty the Robot Marty is a physical robot that can be programmed to follow directions, complete tasks. use data collected by different embedded sensors

3rd Grade Introduction to Google Accounts

Google Classroom

Google Drive

Google Docs

Google Slides

Digital Citizenship

The dos and don'ts of computer use as a 3rd grader at Ramaz.

Partnership with families regarding healthy on-screen behavior

4th Grade SEL/ Design Thinking

Students are inspired by the book, The Most Magnificent Thing., to explore stages of the Design Thinking Process.

Typing Pal

Google Bootcamp

Google Docs/ Google

Slides/Google Classroom

Socio-emotional Learning + Design Thinking Parks and Playgrounds

Students design a playground as they take into consideration the preferences of their users. Working in small groups, they build a model of the playground.

Digital Citizenship

Focusing on what information may be OK (Personal) or not OK (Private) to share online, students create a game in the coding app Scratch. Skills: logical thinking, conditionals, loops, events.

Computational Thinking

Introduction to Scratch

Students learn the basics of Scratch Programming - a block based coding language, which allows them to program animations, mazes, and video games.

Physical Computing

Introduction to Vex Robotics

Students transfer their coding and programming skills to be able to operate a robot with sensors and variables.

Basic Computer Use

Typing Pal

Students learn and practice proper typing skills. Students learn to use and format Google Docs and Slides

Digital Film Editing

Students learn basic film editing skills, so that they can create a film poem called Where I am From… and present it to parents at the end of the project.

Coding conditionals

Scratch

Google Search Engine

Measurement

3-D Design

Measure, draw lines and shapes using centimeters, millimeters. Skills transferred to a 3-D Design project.

Design for Inclusion

Participation in ADI design challenge for assistive devices.

Through Design Thinking, students research, brainstorm, prototype with hand-building and solve problems for a chosen persona.

Vex Robotics

Students build robots that perform tasks with a coding program similar to Scratch.

Physical Computing

Micro:Bit

Micro:Bits programming

sensors such as: sound, light, and an accelerometer.

Movie Making/ Digital Citizenship

Students create movies.

Topics include: Being an Upstander Proper Group Chat Etiquette Cyber-Bullying

Password Protection Etc.
