{ACADEMIC PROJECT}

01

MArch Thesis Project My thesis attempts to use the ethereal and dynamic properties of shadow in an architectural language of transparency, translucency and reveal that draws the users into a physical and emotional journey through the design. This is addressed in a project that creates a dialogue between the robust concrete and steel green roofscape, and the light glass pavilions housed underneath, with their timber screens slowly revealing the interiors to the users as they venture deeper within the architecture. The curvilinear form of the roof is achieved by using the landscape around the Grade I listed St. George-in-theEast as a fabric that extends below the highway and embraces the Grade II listed Tobacco Docks, creating a positive relationship between the two historic buildings, while responding to the site’s topography.

{ACADEMIC PROJECT}

02

MArch Year 1 Project The main design idea is to create a circular non-directional multi-faith chapel space with the rest of the functions of the community centre revolving around it as a metaphor to how central religion/spirituality is to the various diverse communities of Grangetown. The design aims to use the distinctive curvilinear swirled shape created by the effect of revolving the building elements around the fulcrum of the chapel to carve out an outdoor shape for the users, as well as, to create an inviting funnel like entrance to the complex which would draw pedestrians in off the street.

{ACADEMIC PROJECT}

03

BA Grad Project In my graduation project, the chaotic dynamism of the modern city of Newcastle is introduced to run rampant against the static Neo-Classicist Grainger Market, beneath a new geometrically fluid glass roof. The main concept of the design is creating a paradox in which the huge contradictions between the old existing building and the new extension are proudly celebrated instead of being hidden and shied away from.

11

12

{PRIVATE PROJECT}

04

Building 500 Route 10 With the client’s goal to maximize the site’s potential in mind we created a brief that proposes a renovation to the existing building. The new scheme introduces a new architectural language that is both contemporary and cost effective, but at the same time poses a minimal structural impact on the existing building. With the new and bold design, we are aiming to improve the building’s presence and establish a new landmark, for the surrounding locale.

14

{COMPETITION ENTRY}

05

The Urban Oasis The main concept of this competition entry is simple. The site is broken in three islands, each inhabited with mixed-use residential and commercial buildings the shape of which is inspired by the contours of the shores of River Parramatta. The master plan is developed with the intend to emphasize on nature and create a well harmonized mixture of the fast city life and the piece of a private setting to achieve a symbiosis between urban and suburban. With the design of the buildings we wanted to maximize the intake of sunlight, create unique apartment and office layouts and benefit greatly from the brilliant location of the site.

15

16

{COMPETITION ENTRY}

06

The Art Hanok The scheme is a collection of linked pavilions, each oriented to respect the site and setting, inspired by the traditional Korean house (Hanok) design and connected by an open air courtyard exhibition space. As designers we wanted to create simple, elegant, sensible to the environment, respectful to the Korean tradition and yet contemporary design that welcomes visitors and brings art closer to the community. The separate volumes of the proposal allow a strong integration with the landscape and create a continuous journey through the world of art.

{COMPETITION ENTRY}

07

The New Sylvan Public Theatre The proposal for the design of the new Cherkasy theatre was highly influenced by the strong spirit of the society to save the cultural treasures of the town. The project aims for environmental development, urban regeneration and further involvement of the people throughout all phases. The primary challenge was to create symbolic building that respects the environment that is not only for the people but by the people. The design is simple, unique and attractive, the form of a cube, made of interlocking vertical and horizontal mesh , using environmentally friendly and locally sourced materials. The final form of the design is achieved by subtracting simple geometric shapes from the original cube, in order to create negative spaces, where all functions take place.

Al-Rayyan Stadium KSS were asked to deliver Al Rayyan Stadium and Precinct is one of the venues for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Pattern were Lead Designer and Architect for the 40,000 stadium, indoor training pitches and master planner for the precinct. The client theme for the site is Desert. This translates into a master plan concept of a caravan or journey in the desert landscape configured using a circle packing geometry. Evoking the idea of a gathering, the stadium is a contemporary tent set in a metaphoric dune landscape. A key feature of the stadium is its elegant, ornate faรงade: a contemporary interpretation of traditional Naquish patterns specific to Qatari culture. This builds on our interest in how patterns are culturally rich symbols with a universal appeal.
