INTRODUCTION The Imnaha River Ranch is a sportsman’s paradise with over 2 miles of riverfront on the Imnaha River. This one-of-a-kind property includes world-class salmon, steelhead, and wonderful trout fishing right out the back door. Big game hunting in the breaks of the Imnaha is exceptional, with the ranch having five drainages coming down through the property from the higher elevations. This includes elk, mule deer, bear, and turkey. The steep cliffs make up the Imnaha drainage and create breathtaking, yearround wildlife viewing. The main headquarters is situated on the river’s edge with irrigated alfalfa and a summer Forest Service allotment for grazing 185 pairs. With views looking up and down the valley and vistas to the east and west, this is a low elevation ranch and a prime location for the best weather year-round.

AREA HISTORY Chief Joseph, the tribal leader of the Nez Perce tribe, was born and died within sight of Wallowa Lake, which was the ancestral grounds for what was the Nez Perce Tribe. This was true up until gold was discovered in the valley. This started the Nez Perce Indian War, which took place in what is now northeast Oregon. The chief and 700 men, women, and children fled, creating the beginning of the amazing story of the tribe being chased out of the valley and ending 1,170 miles to the north in Canada. The Imnaha River Canyon was an important wintering site for the Nez Perce and their large herds of horses.

The area is unpopulated and has steep, rugged terrain keeping wildlife a bit safer from the masses. Imnaha River
F ishing The Imnaha is a small, wild stream that holds wild and hatchery steelhead. It is somewhat protected by its remoteness and has very little public access. The pools are smaller, but this can make for some great fishing on the 2.5 miles of river frontage flowing through the ranch. Needless to say, the river does not see a lot of fishing pressure, and fly fishing for rainbows can be very special. The state fish hatchery is 8 miles upstream, and this helps the runs continue into the future. • Steelhead • Rainbow Trout and Bull Trout • Chinnok Salmon
O ther R ecreation The hiking can be fantastic in the remote areas if you don’t mind some steep trails at times. A short drive upriver puts you into the big pine forests of the Wallowa’s, and a must-see is the overlook with views of the Hell’s Canyon Recreation Area, located east of the Imnaha River Valley. The country is rich in history and natural beauty. www.fayranches.com | (800) 238.8616 | info@fayranches.com

SUMMARY The Imnaha River Ranch has an amazing amount of wildlife on the ranch and adjacent national forest. The wonderful thing about the location is access into areas of the national forest that is very tough for the general public to access. The fishing is fantastic, and the river is small enough to wade, making it very family-friendly. The private, out-of-the-way ranches on the Imnaha do not come on the market often, and whether you want to run cattle or just have a place to get away and enjoy the recreational pursuits, this can be the perfect property. Give me a call to take a look and remember to bring your fly rod!
