PROJECT DESCRIPTION Create a reuse for the old Terrace Plaza Hotel. Program is not specific but emphasis must be put on universal dwelling units that are ADA compliant as well as a detailed reception area.
GOALS & FOCUS Design a unit that is universal to the neighborhood and not just the business district. Refrain from removing too much of the existing structure as well as keeping the brick facade due to it’s historical context. Honor the Gourmet and continue it’s use as a 5 star restaurant.
TIMELINE & DELIVERABLES Weeks 1-3: EXISTING CONDITIONS: Group Digitalize existing conditions containing structure, floors, columns, circulation, and interior walls Visit site to investigate project Weeks 4-6: BUILDING MASTER PLAN: Group This exercise is to show your concept for the building in a concise fashion, which will require visual conveyance as well as a succinct presentation. Weeks 7-9: TOWER ROOM EXERCISES: Individual Phase 1: The goal is to develop an array of options for interior spaces in the tower of the Terrace Plaza, to incorporate universal design principles, and to represent space(s) with axons and modeling—to exercise technical rigor while implying the experience of a space in a condensed micro-unit Phase 2: The second phase of the tower will allow more freedom to create the ideal universal design dwelling. This will adopt more than one structural unit, so the proposals will need to show a key plan for the floor, justifying that the unit design takes into account its context, it’s neighbors. Phase 3: Regather in a group to incorporate best 2-5 dwelling units to implement in the final design. These units must be ADA compliant as well as universally sound. Weeks 10-15: FINAL EXERCISE: Group Collectively present materials and design ideas in critique. Presentations should address both concept and final design processes. In total the final should be a fully developed concept with emphasis and detailed work on dwelling units, lobby and atrium impacts, and cohesion seen from working interdisciplinarily
