HARD WORK CAN BEAT THE BOOS CRAIG MOORE OVERCAME A SLOW START TO STAR FOR GERS - A ND BELIEVES THE CURRENT CROP OF LIGHT BLUES CAN DO THE SAME

A

FTER a draw with Ross County last week which took Rangers’ run of wins to just one in five Premiership games, Mark Warburton conceded fans were entitled to boo the team off. With a chance to get them cheering again coming this afternoon against Morton, Craig Moore knows what it takes to get supporters from one to the other successfully.

After making his debut as a raw 18-year-old against Dundee United in 1994, the Australian struggled to adapt to life at Ibrox as he was frequently played out of position at right-back. He soon flourished though and after a brief spell with Crystal Palace, he returned to Ibrox to excel once more as a centre-half, making more than 250 appearances for the club overall. Moore’s journey to the

point where he became someone Light Blues followers would remember with fondness was far from easy. Indeed, he was often a scapegoat in the eyes of some during his early days and, in that sense, he can relate to the difficulties a number of Warburton’s players have encountered lately. In a season which has carried both highs and lows so far, he understands why

WHO IS THE FUNNIEST IN THE SQUAD? (mattgreenshields18, Instagram) Definitely not Lee Hodson, his banter is minging and I share a room with him every away trip. I think Holty is the funniest. HOW BAD WAS HARRY’S SNORING BEFORE THE PETROFAC CUP FINAL? (rangerspics, Instagram)

ROB DOESN’T RATE LEE HODSON’S CHAT

I live with Harry so I know his snoring is bad but sleeping beside him is a joke. He is like an actual hippo; imagine a hippo snoring and that is Harry. The room vibrates so I didn’t sleep at all that night. At home I shut my door, he shuts his door and there is a big corridor but I can still hear him! WHAT’S THE BEST MEAL YOU’VE HAD COOKED BY SOMEONE IN THE TEAM? (jordan_smith59, Instagram) Definitely Harry, he is decent to be fair. He gets the Jamie Oliver meals so he cheats a bit but I’d give him that. WHO DO YOU THINK HAS THE WORST STYLE AND THE BEST IN THE TEAM? (cameronmullen05, Instagram)

HARRY’S SNORING IS NO JOKE FOR HIS PAL

The best is Niko, he has some rascal gear and the worst is definitely Hods (Lee Hodson), his tracksuits are far too big for him. IF YOU COULD GO ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, WHERE WOULD YOU GO? (jonesy1872, Instagram)

DUBAI

Dubai, Wes and I like Dubai and always go there. I want to go and see the Northern Lights too; I think that would be quite cool, I’d like to sleep in an igloo! PAGE 11

DAVE MCPHERSON WILL NEVER FORGET THE SCOTTISH CUP SUCCESS HE ENJOYED AT RANGERS AND HEARTS BUT HE ALSO SUFFERED HAMPDEN HEARTACHE

R

ANGERS are hoping to take another step on the road back to Hampden today and it is a venue which holds decidedly mixed emotions for Dave McPherson. He savoured the magnificent high of being part of Walter Smith’s Treble team in 1993 and helped Hearts win their first major trophy for 36 years in 1998 when the first Smith era ended in bitter disappointment. He also lost a Scottish Cup Final for both Rangers and Hearts in the 1990s and one of his best mates wrecked his first Hampden showpiece game back in 1983. However, perhaps the biggest

PAGE 12

disappointment of all is that his managerial career ended at the national stadium in what was his one and only stint as a boss with today’s opponents Morton. Remarkably, the Greenock side were only three points behind Third Division leaders East Fife and also had a healthy goal difference following a 1-1 draw with Queen’s Park when he was given the boot. Morton had been on a run of just one defeat in seven matches, securing four wins and two draws but it wasn’t enough for chairman Douglas Rae. Rae had effectively saved the club from lurching from administration into

liquidation by writing a cheque for £350,000 and he didn’t feel McPherson had the experience to lead the Greenock side up the divisions. Ironically, the man who was in the opposition dugout in McPherson’s final game on 9 November 2002 took his job. Rae turned to John McCormack, the St Mirren stalwart of the 1980s, and he managed to win promotion with a final day win over Peterhead. However, Cowboy was riding into the sunset in less than two years for failing to take Morton out of Division Two. It’s a tough gig being the Morton manager!

Big Slim was the manager of Morton from March 2002 to November of the same year

The Last Word with Jim Stewart

OALKEEPING coach Jim Stewart has worked with numerous stoppers in his 10 years at Rangers, with Jak Alnwick becoming the latest after he signed for the Light Blues at the end

of the January transfer window. We caught up with Jim to find out what Jak will bring to the club, and to discuss the scintillating form of number one Wes Foderingham‌ “We had the situation with Matt [Gilks] where

he came to speak to the gaffer before the transfer window opened and intimated he was wanting firstteam football, and we could understand what he was looking for, although we were reluctant to let him go.
