PASONA HQ Facade Design
Type:
Facade Develment
Plugin Used:
Brief Description:
Pasona Group, our client has asked us to brainstorm upon the nature and design of the facade. This was ideal for me to develop new fresh ideas. Because the budget was very limited, it was very important to think also about the construction costs of the design and innovate using cheep materials and labor non-intensive processes.
Other Comments:
In some ways colours are used as materials so developing a nice palette was crutial. I have developed a couple interesting structures such as twisted aluminium plates attached to steel frame, hanging metal sheet, laser cuted aluminium and anchored piped to get a natural and organic effect on the facade.

PASONA HQ Facade Design
Type:
Kinetic Facade
Plugin Used:
Kangaroo Physics (wind, springs, uForce), Perlin Noise, Humans
Brief Description:
The client wanted a Kinetic facade. Our idea was to use traditional Japanese paper attached to a grid on the facade which could therefore move with the wind. Because the company is investing a lot in new technologies, parterned with Panasonic we were able to come up with innovative and responsive designs.
Other Comments:
I used video render to show how the facade changes according to time. To recreate a this sense of randomness of the wind, I used a value generator, Perlin noise. My next step would be to have the values influencing each other to recreate the waves wind can create in this type of structure. Other options were also explored.

Topography Definition
Type:
Site analysis
Plugin Used:
Elk, Weaverbird, humans
Brief Description:
data taken from NASA, OpenStreetMap, Landsat 8 OLI and others The script generates: - contour lines - sectional lines - 15° slope analysis topo mesh - enhanced image topo mesh - color coded height topo mesh - the plot ratio - building density - from shapefiles, 3d model of existing buildings on topo - cad and projected curves: highways, major roads, minor roads, railways, waterways..
Other Comments:
The dicculty was to match each map together in regards to their different coding language and their imperfections. We are dealing with files containing 1.5 million points, so the script should be the lightest possible to give minimum effort to the CPU. Another part of the script is meant to repair the data by culling out glitches and rebuilding the list. Raphaël Monnier 莫海峰

Shantou MasterPlan
Type:
Value Studies
Plugin Used:
Brief Description:
The given value of the land depends on its location. We have narrowed the influence of the value to five different criterias. Each criteria have been assigned with a coefficient that varies according to its importance. The distance each plot has to the generated 3d topography assignes its final value. The blue color corresponds to the current land price, while the red corresponds to the current land price times its value factor. This study was made according to our original urban design strategy.
Other Comments:

It is known in Japan that when building a brick facade, no brick are cut to fill up the whole dimensions of the surface. In this script, according to standard brick dimensions, I have made it possible to measure the perfect mortar gap to continue the Japanese traditional construction methods.

Brief Description:
Tile design project for an Italian Restaurant in Tokyo called Angelo. The motifs were influenced by traditional Sicilian pattern. I used correct size and dimensions as samples ordered from Japanese local tile company.
Other Comments:
Understanding the the tesselation’s geometry helped me reproduce the pattern accross the entire floorplan. I added a random value to create an interesting effect. Finally for fabrication only, using the script I have made an excel sheet showing how many tile were used, were cut...

Negative space carving
Type:
Pavilion Design
Plugin Used:
T-spline on grasshopper
Brief Description:
This pavilion design was a great way to start modeling with T-Splines. The process was reversed because I started building the negative space that would carve into the pavilion. This allowed me the really think about the containing space, creating a place to sit, for the light to come in, creating thresholds to enter.
Other Comments:
Using these wooden laser cutted sheets was the easest way to actually build this installations. To make it more realistic, I have also added to the model the steel bars that would hold the layers together.

Smart Geometry - HongKong
Type:
Parametric plumbing
Plugin Used:
Kangaroo Physics, WeaverBird
Brief Description:
In summer 2015, I have participated in Smart Geometry at the Chinese University of HongKong. I have made this pavilion to show how a system can react to a local failure. By pinching the blue tubes, it would stop the circulation of the coloured water inside. You would than see how the water would be redestributed accross the rest of the circuit.
Other Comments:
Each one of the 18 nobes were 3D printed using the makerbot. The physical model itself was failing by leeking. This unpredicted event made the installation even more succesfull. The location of the pinching changed the behaviour of the leeking.

This Site Analysis allowed us to understand better the urban grid surrounding our project site. (Walking distance to the neighbooring subway station, bus station and other utilities.) I made the bottom right map for another project in Montreal, only using GIS ArcMap, the map is referencing the LandUse.
Other Comments:
The hardest part was definitely getting a hold of the Shape Files. I had to ask a Japanese structural engineering firm to help me out. Using the data was also a struggle because everything was in Japanese.
