I have an unusual background, and my goals are very ambitious. Bringing you through personal thoughts on architecture, past university and professional projects and different experiences, you will definitely get a sense of my Integrating Chinese life, field of interest and my will to work in your architecture office in HongKong. It was important for me to connect with locals, after finishing tenth grade in the French International School of Beijing, I took a gap year in a Chinese high school in Beijing 首都师范大学附中 as a full boarding student. This experience Learning conceptual design in Montreal, not only brought me fluency in mandarin but also, allowed me to understand “Commemoration; Industrial Heritage; Civic Center; Watercolors; the mentality. Since, I have always kept a close contact with China. Have had Ephemeral Art; Perspectives, Exploration; Creativity; Senses.” These key words four summer internships in Beijing, Shanghai and Tokyo, a couple of them were describe well our focus during the course of the architecture degree at McGill in mandarin. During which I was involved with the conceptualization and deUniversity. sign development, the preparation of 3D models on rhino with rendering supervision, the preparation and conceptualization of Architectural Design Drawings and the preparation of presentation slides and final book to client. Let me briefly describe a university project that particularly caught my attention, the renovation of the Grain Elevator in the Old Port. Montreal is moving away from industrialization and approaching an international artistic stage. The city Dreaming of Hong Kong, should therefore respond to such a change using the tools at its disposal. By Architecture is a growing field, where technology can have a lot of im“Re-using” the heritage for artistic means, the building and the site become a pact on the way we work. I am always motivated by learning new softwares. The catalyst for future city transformation. A longitudinal diagonal cut through the “Smart Geometry” workshop at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2014 silos made it possible to take advantage of the acoustic properties of these struc- taught me how to efficiently work in a professional environment and made me tures in order to create a “Giant Organ”. This recycled musical instrument allows explore the potential of new software used in architecture such as Grasshopper the public to interact with the media in a new context. Showing the beauty in on Rhino5 and ArchMap, ArcScene on GIS. these industrial artifacts arouses interest for the city’s history. This kind of design thinking goes beyond the actual building and addresses a bigger scale: the city. I look forward to hearing from you soon, University professor, full-time architect and city planner in Beijing, Joe Carter asked us to reflect on the notion of civic centers. In this regard, I later wrote an article in “Graphite Publications” about Utopias in architecture. Yona Friedman, Robert Owen, Le Corbusier and Buckminster Fuller for instance have translated their views of a perfect society into city masterplan. This type of wishful thinking was especially useful when working on the design of a new civic center at Esplanade Park in Singapore, right next to the Marina Bay. During my exchange at the National University of Singapore, I had a specialization in Landscape de3

TANTALUS Tantalus
Tantalus is a juice bar in Montreal. The use of tubes helped me achieve the connection between the kitchen, the eating area and the sky. The food goes up from the kitchen on the first floor as the light goes down through the skylight on the roof on the second floor. The drink preparation on the first floor is completely revieled to the streetscape to draw the custumers in. The positioning of these tubes in the space was made according to reasearch based on the mathematical relationship between physical proximity and interaction/confort zone.

The silos in Montreal hold a very important roal in it’s history and identity. During the Paris Expo in 1900, the Canadian pavilion was a silo. Corbusier later said they are the “splendid fruits of a new era”. Robert Charlesbois, famous singer from Montreal said that “la conservation passe par l’usage”. (Conservation through the use) Artist Marc Gosselin portrayed the silo as more than just a relic of the industrial era, but as a source of inspiration for art. My intentions were to use this abandonned machine to produce, perform and experience sound and music. By carving out a punch in the architecture, each silos is transformed into a musical note; the whole becomes an instrument that the city can re-use. Research on Montreal’s architectural industrial context :

St Katherine’s Docks in London by Thomas Telford in 1824 became the symbol and reference to the industrial achitecture of Montreal. It’s design is guided by functionality and the needs of production. It’s post and beam structure enables the building to adapt itself to different interior organisations.

When public transportation became more developed in the city, certain types of industries (manufacturing paper, cloth, services) relocated to the center of the city in order to be as close as possible to the client. The architecture therefore had to express the companie’s best image, they were very influenced by Louis Sullivan (Wainwright building, Guaranty building).

GRASSHOPPER Parametric Design
These are parametric exercices I imagined to learn geometry and handling the software.
Pavillion for kids Based on Monument for the Murdered Jews of Europe by Peter Eisenman, I thought of cerating colorful cuts in the concrete blocks to make a large scale hands-on Art Pavillion.
Landscaping I have been experiencing with parametrical landscapes. The possibilities are endless.

Custum Furniture
The process of design was inversed for this project. I started shaping the negative space first. I also was interested in the construction by adding structural elements.
This cardboard installation can be assembled directly by the kids, I have tried to make the structure as simple as possible.

GIIS - School in Singapore During this project, I was responsible for the design of the school library. In this regard, I proposed a circulation strategy taking into account safety measures, a list of furniture. Playing with the heights of the suspended ceiling modules, the waves created a more dynamic space quality for the kids to develop creativity.

My cousin, a Chinese tailor friend and I started the brand three years ago in China. Mixing electro-swing in bars in BeiJing helped us in the beggining. During the music festival, the marketing director of Jack and Jones asked us to mix during their next collection launching fashion show. Later we met the official artist of the Suisse watch brand Piaget. Since we have been participating in many fashion shows, auctions, photoshoots and markets. Details for us represent the true nature and personality of a style, this is why we try to give our Bow Ties the most character as possible. For the first collection “New Dandy”, we used simple and elegant cotton fabrics, for each tie a peom was written describing its ambiance. “FLIP” the second collection is made out of reversible, two-sided bow ties (colouful/timid). For “Libertinage”, we got high quality silk fabrics from ethnical minorities in south of China. For each bow tie is assigned a Chinese historical woman. This will erouse curiosity to certain forgotten times of this vaste and diversed country.

SMART GEOMETRY
Smart Geometry 2014 - HongKong
I found a place to stay on Lamma Island, about 2 hours of public transport to get to smartgeometry at the Chinese University of HongKong. Having to take the boat, the subway and the bus everyday, I was in very interesting position to better grasp the idea of Resilient Urban Network. This workshop helped to better understand how to work in a team: seperate tasks, ask questions, be respectful; gain better knowlegde and understand the full potential of grasshopper and other plugins. Furthermore, I got to meet people working in other fields than architecture.
