CURRICULUM VITAE
SCULPTOR’S LODGE Clay Artist Studio next to The Collection
The client is a fictional concept artist that works for the film and game industry. A lot of research was made on the subject and there are some relevant conclusions that must be considered when designing a workshop to an artist like this. The program for an creature sculptor’s to optimize his work is: The Office;Digital Modelling Room;Chroma Key Studio; The Workshop;Warehouse;Toilets. Both traditional and digital sculpture are used in the film and game industry. The techniques used in both medias are similar. Most of the time, there is a first clay study and then a digital finalized concept. Most of the work is done with reference images. Original drawings and photos os poses and expressions are the core inspiration to fantasy sculptors. It’s mandatory to have room for a lot of pictures in the workshop’s walls. The artist works with clay models. The size may vary and some of the sculptures need a internal structure to support themselves. This structure is made of wire and helps the artist to imagine the poses of the character before sculpting. There are a lot of tools that the artist may use. from small metal carvers to big sandpapers and blowtorches. these tools must be reacheble and stored in dry and clean spaces. to optmize the use, there must be a sink next to the workspace. The site is great for an artist’s workshop. Down in the Artistic quarter of Lincoln, the site is right beside The Collection, Usher Gallery and the Temple Gardens. The site also have a beautiful view of the cathedral in the background. You can get to the site easly by foot, there are three main quiet and enjoyable journeys. You can also get there by bus, the re is a bus line right down this adress. The site is also accessible by car. The slope of the site creates a lot of vistas of the potential building. AS it can be seen from above, it’s important that the roof is well designed. The site will recieve most of the afternoon sun from the west. The south and the east facades are mostly blocked and the north one doesn’t have much sun through the year. Indirect light is the best for clay. This way it lasts longer without getting dry. The building is made of a gather of different spaces, merged together with a thick concrete casted wall. The steel structure comes from the foundations up to the roof and then is covered by the concrete, just as a sculpture is made of a wire structure covered by clay. the main room is the workshop. It’s the only room with zenital fenestrations and with an big window to the temple gardens. the window is also a showcase of his work and a way of realxing with a good view.

THE SHELL
Music Store, Luthier and Venue on the West Common
wall detail
As Lincoln do not have a real venue for musical events and festivities, an acoustic shell can be used to hold anything from formal events and concerts to little shows and indie performances. some official events are hold in a bandstand on the arborertum, but it has proven to be too small to many of them. Trying to make the shell as off the grid as possible, the materials used to build it wewe chosen among local materials, produced in Lincoln or near it. by doing this. less energy is wasted on transporting and we can help the locan bussiness to grow stronger and to get known. behind the 10 meters wide shell, some rooms have important roles to the west common and to Lincoln. The city has a lot of musicians, street artists and student artist that do not have where to perform or gather. Along with the main funcion of music venue, the building have an musical instrument store with a luthier’s workshop for repairing instruments. To pay for mainteinance and help to get funds to promote concerts, two studio rooms are availiable for booking. One can buy a guitar on the stop, reherse on the studio and then play at the shell in the same day! as the shell is an open and public space, it is not insulated and can only protect from the rain. The studios and store, on the other hand, have walls with insulation and acoustic treatment. An external layer of insulation keep the temperature of the rooms with the help of the green roof. an internal layer of acoustic protections keep the noise from the studios inside them. The walls of the store do not need acoustic protection, using only the insulation. The studios have no windows, what makes it easier to keep warm and acoustic sealed. the roof of the building is all green, controlling the interior temperature and slowing the time that rain water takes to reach the ground. That rain water is also used in in the toilets of the building, helping it to become off grid. The solar panels facing south on the shell heat water on the boiler and generate power keep the studios working. the green areas of the shell are climbers, reducing the concrete surface and in agreement with the aesthetics of the building.

CASTLE COMICS
Cooks and Book right in Castle Square
the site chosen for this project is the car park near the Lincoln’s Castle Entrance, Located on the Castle Square at the end of Steep Hill. As it’s one of the most important areas of Lincoln, surrounded by historial buildings and turistic attractions, the new design must sits among them without distubing the already established landmarks. A building that mimics the environment would be the best choice, using stone as the primary material and a similar rhythm of openings as the neighbours. As it is going to be a comic book store and a Comic Themed Restaurant, the inside will be colourful and vibrant. the space will be wide open and have a glass roof, enabling people from the castle’s walls to see what is going on inside. The contrast between the exterior and interior will be paramount. the kitchen will not need any special machines or ovens. the goal of the design is to create creative dishes and not fancy or hard-to-make ones. for the size of the restaurant, a kitchen designed for six workers is enough. The building will have three main areas: the comic book shop, the restaurant and the lounge on the mezzanine. The comic book shop will have specifific shelves to hold this kind of media, alongside with shelves to hold geek toys and films. The restaurant will be coulourful and casual, inviting the target group (mainly young people, kids and students). The lounge offers a way of maintaining the building alive, promoting geek events and bringing guests, this area will create the costumers. the narrow windows are a reference to the crenels of the old castle. They allow a little light to go in an some views from the inside, but no views from the outside so the building stays blending with the context. the slope and wall of the castle will give people an interesting view. toilets will be public since this design demolishes the existing public toilets on site.

THE TOMES OF TESSA
Sci-fi comic about Ancient Aliens
The Tomes of Tessa was created when I was 13 years old as a child play. As was growing up, the plot grew up with me and so I decided to make a comic out of it. Gathering my knowledge of architecture, I create a science ctional universe with alien species that represent dierent paradigms of society and dierent approach to architecture and culture. I started to write and draw it in Brazil, but it was here in England that I could nally publish it and start selling it at cons (since we don’t have that kind of comic scene in Brazil). The story is about the adventures lived by Rah Tessalor, the heir to the throne of a powerful alien species that has to face a lot of dangerous situations and hard decisions to save his family and his nation. The Story is told by Rah himself, older and wiser, while he writes tomes of his doings when he was younger. The entire Environment is created with 3d models of the cities and interiors, making it possible to reuse them in other panels and keeping the architecture consistent.
THE BLINKING SHADE
Noir Spin-off of the Tomes of Tessa
Created as a spin-off of the Tomes, Blinking Shade tries to show a more obscure side of the universe that I created. The story takes place in a diferent planet and some years before the Tomes, where Cazian is the main character. He is a detective in Turvio, a gothic-looking alien city with a misty and rainy weather. The story begins when he is investigating a suspect and he got killed before he could draw any conclusion. The ambience of the comic is designed basically in shades of gray, using only the silhouettes of the characters and no dialogues. All the information comes from the narrator, who speaks in the dark void between each image that I use as gutter. It was created in a webcomic format, made to be scrolled down and not to be readed by pages. A lot of research was made to get to the architecture of the city. The Lincoln Catheral was a great reference for construtive details and aestetics. The elements used in the backdrop are all 3d models, some of them even used also in the Tomes of Tessa. You can read the prologue in the QR Code.
DEVIANT CHALLENGE
Online Multiplayer Brawl Game
In development since 2010, Deviant Challenge is a fighting game where up to six players are in battle simultaneously on the same screen. I developed the plot, the concept art, 3D models and the soundtrack of the game and my friends Marcos Seefelder and Vinicius Fountura worked with programming and animation. Everything happens in a science fiction fighting championship in the same universe as the Comics I wrote, where different alien races battle each other. The player can choose from six characters and six arenas, each one of a gladiator. It was important to design the music of each arena as it fully connected with the same character, so that believable that belong to the same planet and that culture. The full soundtrack is available on the QR Code.
ALBUME
Minimalist Casual Game
This was my first published game. The concept came from cellular movement inside our body. With that I mind I built a completely new mechanic of playing. In the game, you are an “Albume, something like a cell that needs nutrients. There is a vector spinning around, and when the screen is touched, your character is projected in the direction of the vector to find something. Your goal is to take the green and purple nutrients that way and avoid the cells and red walls. Simple logic, an unusual mechanics and a wide variety of levels makes the game quite addictive and appeals to both adults and children (according to our own survey). Originally, the art I designed for the game was simple and clear because the idea was to be a relaxing and carefree game. With the release, we realize that the public demanded more colors and lines in the art, so I made a new art to be implemented in the new version (still in development) all in watercolor. The game can be downloaded to mobile phones and Android tablets on the GooglePlay with the QR Code.
SIMRIO
Architecture Simulator of Old Town Rio
When I entered the Laboratory of Urban Analysis and Digital Representation in 2011, my job was to represent the buildings of the city center of Rio in 3D models. Talking to my advisor Naylor Vilas Boas, we had the idea of applying these models in an interactive platform, in real time, where we could simulate the city center digitally. I studied hard to develop the first version of the simulator, where it was possible to wander around Rio and travel back in time to 1910 and understand the urban evolution of the Old Town. With this work, we won the Best Undergraduate Research Work 2012 at UFRJ. The simulator has evolved and in 2013, officially became the SimRio, adding more stock and migrated to another more powerful platform. Today we have a more complete work, including models of Urban Furniture and buildings that have been demolished. With this work we have also selected among the three best works of the Undergraduate Research Work 2013 and 2014. You can access the LAURD website with the QR Code.
