My name is Raphael Câmara Pinheiro, student of archtecture, musician and game designer. I’m �� years old and want this portfolio to represent my work, making one from it. I study archtecture in the Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo of UFRJ here in Brazil, focusing on the perception of archtecture and environment in digital ambiences. I studied music in the Villa-Lobos Music School here in Rio de Janeiro and with some home teachers after that. Nowadays I teach keyboard/piano and write/compose soundtracks and SFX for video games and short films. I also work with game archtecure by drawing, modeling and plotting levels and stages for apps, games and simulators. Studing archtecture helps me to understand the virtual space. At last, I work in the Laboratory of Urban Analisys and Digital Representation (LAURD) of UFRJ. For two years I’m developing a digital simulator of my city, the SimRio.

Since I was a kid, I love to draw. I found myself in the observation drawing classes in college ,and since then I have been trying to draw more and better. I use my drawings to make concept art for projects in and out the college using various techniques such as Nanquim, Watercolour, Graphite and Digital Painting. Drawing is the first interpretation method of my ideas. From them it is easier to explain to others what I am thinking and even easier to understand them myself.

I use the paintings of Rob Alexander and John Avon as inspiration, always painting landscapes and stunning scenery. Among the themes that I draw, I particularly like scenarios and environments, places I want to be or wish there were real. Even when dealing with digital paintings, I prefer to do the initial Pencil or Ink sketch and just then, paint on the computer. I love the dash on the paper, much more than a tablet dash.

EDIFÍCIO GARDAZ AI I
Gardaz is a residential building with �� floors of apartments of � and � bedrooms. The proposal is to promote a new way of inhabiting , placing a townhouse with great contact with the nature. There is a common deck of use that gives the feeling of being in a small, quiet park , in addition to a ballroom overlooking the Largo do Machado and the Aterro do Flamengo . There are also apartments with their own gardens , resulting in a vertical home with direct contact with nature. The building also features a barbecue , parking lot (one per apartment) and a large square below , with shops , restaurants , skating rink and contemplation areas. Thes public plaza created in front of the building serves as both Passage as garden. There is a zoning that prioritizes certain functions in certain spaces, marked by the difference of ground levels. The square appropriates the building design and uses it for other features, creating a visual communication between both. All started from a pagination module of �m by �m.

BIBLIOTECA JARDIM PA III Área Verde e Educação no Engenho de Dentro
To design a child’s library in Engenho de Dentro with a large building sit, I chose to distribute the uses into plug-in modules. It made more sense to spread functions then concentrate them because I had a large terrain. I studied hexagonal floorplans and people flows so the Garden Library project could emerge. As the program presented encompasses many ages, the modules were arranged to nest each age group. Children who need a more playful and colorful room could enjoy their books without making the adolescent or older childs feel uncomfortable. �� or �� years old kids can use the library as a place for serious study, with tables for groups or computers for academic research. Sectorization was organized so that all paths lead to the reception, the only public input and allows full control of the acquis. Among the children’s areas there is an outdoor garden that can be used by everyone, involving readers with nature and allowing casual readings and encounters.

This project is located on the campus of UFRJ. It is a complex of two buildings, of which one is a hotel and the other is an officer building with a commercial area below. The hotel aims to cater visitors of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro that are here to lecture or participate in college research, and possible executives who will work to Rio de Janeiro and commercial hub. We also want to meet people who come to Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport and has the intention of staying near it. The commercial area aims to attend the everyday needs of the population of the University’s City, since there are not many options within the island. The project complies with the skyline of the campus, as it has a maximum of �� floors. Thus, the new buildings of the Technology Park form a harmonious composition with the existing buildings in the vicinity. Master Plan
Landscaping - We create a shaft that leads to a pedestrian integrated path with a water mirror and amphitheater setting up an area of more prolonged stay, which relates to an area of restaurants. Medium trees provide shade that space needs and beautify the place.

I was invited by Professor Adriana Sans達o and Professor Raul Bueno to build a proposal for Simplicities contest with them: Simple ideas for a better city. The proposal was CHANGING A PARKING LOT FOR... and was selected for the exhibition that has passed by Studio X and FAU itself. This proposal presents a reflection on the degradation of the urban landscape caused by the excessive amount of cars parked on public space. We put on some proposed ideas with easy implementation, which can motivate significant and universal transformations making our city more democratic. The work refers to the visual aspect, but also the comfort and fluidity in public spaces, always seeking greater vitality and use of sidewalks. Intervention can also be used as a test to evaluate the best vocation of the place, or even if the new use is appropriate, prior to the final intervention. The exchange of the automobile by a public space can be funded in several ways: by direct investment of public power; through the "adoption" system by the private sector through tax cuts, or through an advertising contract for exploration.

I studied Organ, Piano, Violin and Choir with teachers and learned Guitar,Bass, Percussion, Harmonica and Mixing by myself. With this knowledge in hand, I started writing and soon had enough songs for an album. As long as I couldn’t find a band or group that would align with my goals, I decided to record all the instruments at home and ride my own home studio. This was my first published game. The concept came from my friend Marcos Seefelder and, from it, we built it with an innovative mechanics. In the game, you are an "Albume", something like a cell that needs nutrients. There is a vector rotating around you and when the screen is touched, your Albume moves towards the vector direction until it find something. Your goal is to grab the green and purple nutrients and thus prevent red cells and red walls. An unusual simple mechanical logic, and a wide variety of levels makes the game quite addictive and appeals to both adults and children (according to our own survey).

Originally, the art that I did for the game was simple and clear, because the idea was to be a relaxing and calm game. After we published it, we realized that the public demanded more colors and traits in art, so I made a new proposal to be implemented in the new version (still in development) all in watercolor. In development since ����, Deviant Challenge is a fighting game where up to six players are in battle simultaneously on the same screen. I developed the plot, the concept art, �D models and the soundtrack of the game and my friends Marcos Seefelder and Vinicius Fountura helped with programming and animation. Everything happens in a sci-fi tournament where different alien races battle each other. The player can choose among six arenas, eachone relating to a gladiator. It was important to design the music of each arena fully connected with the character, so players could believe that he belonged to that planet and that culture itself. This same story serves as the backdrop for the work that will come on the next page .
TESSALOR Curta de Ficção Científica
With the tales of Deviant Challenge and intending to improve my tecniques for modeling and animation, I began producing a short �d telling the story of Rah, one of the characters in the game . The short film will have �� minutes (there are seven minutes already done) and will talk ablout a noble heir to the throne on his land, decides to leave everything and travel the galaxy to learn about new cultures and ends up joining the cause of the oppressed, fighting in a war beside them. Most of the film takes place in his desert home planet, with scenes in different landscapes such as cities, temples, sandy deserts or canyons . The ambience dates back to ancient Egypt , with architecture and horizontal temples, sandstone rocks with large halls and statues. It was a great opportunity to make a remake of this architecture which I like a lot, but with elements of fiction as stone ships or floating pyramids . This is a long project, as long as I'm developing it all by myself and working from the script to the facial animation of the characters. The release date is in early ����. I intend to release the soundtrack separately, since it involves at least � songs.

When I joined the Laboratory of Urban Analysis and Digital Representation in ���� , my job was to represent the buildings of the center of Rio de Janeiro on �D models . Talking to my advisor Naylor Vilas Boas , had the idea to apply these models in an interactive platform in real-time, where we could simulate the city center digitally . I studied hard to develop the first version of the simulator, where it was possible to take off the Rio and travel back in time to ���� to understand urban evolution. With this work done, we firstly the Journey of Scientific Initiation of UFRJ in ���� and traveled to Recife’s SBPC to present the project that has been very well received. The simulator has evolved and in ���� officially became SimRio, adding more scholars and migrated to another platform that is more powerful. Today we have a more complete work, including models of urban furniture and buildings that have been demolished. With this work has also been selected among the top three entries in the ���� competition and received an Honorable Mention in the Journey of the Center of Arts and Letters .
