LOCATION: Sant Adrià del Besòs (Barcelona) USE: Public. Cinema Faculty + Offices TYPOLOGY: Refurbishment+ New construction SURFACE: 6.500 m2 The project is about the new Cinema Faculty of Barcelona and new logistic offices. It is located in the joint between industrial and residential areas in the outskirts of Barcelona, getting the foot at the door to the revitalization of the area and its inclusion in the metropolitan scale. The project transforms an old industrial group of warehouses through the conditioning of its skin and interior. At the same time, two new volumes are added to the ensemble increase the density of the plot and to create a landmark. The intervention creates a new and gentle interaction of the building with the public area without losing its historical attachment to the industrial environment through its material reinterpretation.
LIBRARY PLAY CENTER HOUSING
URBAN STRATEGY _ The final objective of the project is to reactivate a depressed area located at in a satellite town of Barcelona. The town suffers from social typecasting and a lack of sense of belonging to the city. The presence of the river and different scattered urban patterns, including an historical industrial area, are the origin of the current disconnection between the different neighborhoods and this area with Barcelona.
LOGISTICAL OFFICES
CINEMA FACULTY
Facing this two scale problem, the project reconnects the city at multiple-scale level. The project acts in the neighborhood scale through the sewing of the different local urban patterns, creating a revitalization of the area that echoes to the metropolitan scale, including the outskirts to the actual city. In order to reach this objective, the choice of the location and the program are determinant. The urban proposal of the project takes a triangular block located in a strategical joining point of the industrial area and different and disconnected residential areas. At the same time, the block is in one of the main streets and at a distance of ten minutes walking from the other side of the river, providing good conditions to reconnect with Barcelona. Considering that the project locates in a relatively conflictive area that at certain times shows an alarming lack of public activity, the urban proposal includes different uses. With this strategy, the proposal brings every urban pattern together and entails the creation of different use times and a constant activity that ensures a safe environment.

PROGRAM _ The program’s distribution supports synergies between the different uses of the building. Around the main entrance, that is marked by the tower, the different uses meet and relate to each other. In this way, the building enhances an active regular life between the public space and the ensemble, creating meeting points. Entering the building through the main entrance one can enter to the the tower, where the logistical offices are located or to cinema faculty inside the warehouses.

THREE POINTS _
CON N E CT ION _The addition of the tower creates a cluster of uses. Each of the cluster’s areas is connected to the public space and among themselves. The activity of one use promotes the appearance of the others, strengthening the vitalization of the whole ensemble and its relation with the city.
MAT E RIAL IT Y_Considering the industrial history of the place, three industrial elements are used as leitmotiv: The up-and-over garage doors, the folded roof panels and the window’s perforated metal sheets. These references are used to create a new facade that refers to its surrounding and adapts to all the cardinal direction’s requirements.
DESIGN FOR DISASSEMBLY_ In order to extend the lifespan of the building, the interior partitions of the warehouse are based on a wooden DFD system. This building method allows to construct and deconstruct in a fast, cheap and sustainable way that grants a high transformability to the building.

LOCATION: Tarragona USE: Public. Sports Hall TYPOLOGY: New construction SURFACE: 5.600 m2 The new sports hall for the Mediterranean Games 2018 is located in the next to the city of Tarragona. The arena is located next to other sport facilities that are part of the games and is able to host 5.000 people. The building interacts with the natural topography of the place. Depending from which side of the building one enters, the volume’s perception varies. The hall has a metallic second skin that divides the facade into three parts and protects the interior from the direct solar radiation. This second skin disappears at the groundlevel creating a better connection with the spectators.

PROGRAM _ The sports hall interacts with the topography, lying in the hill. The topographic difference between the north and the south facade enables to create two accesses to the sports hall. The technical uses, including the sports field, are located underground and can be directly accessed from the backside of the building. The main entrance is located up the hill, so the spectators can enter to the audience area in the higher ground floor. 6 8
