“Can design change the world?” I ‘ve been asking myself for this question for 3 years. I would say “design can’t change the world”, but design thinking can. And that’s what NABA has tought me. I’ve done projects in different fields, but in the end, I know what I’m good at. Every project I done, I did it to solve a problem. You will see it in the first page of them.

Erik&Jack Named after my nephews in USA, Erik and Jack. Creativity is a gift, using this gift for my love one is the definition of happiness in my mind. I made this furniture set for them because I realize that American family tend to have really huge backyards, they need some furniture to put outside during day time. And their father is the one who has to carry it indoor after the sun set. It’s a furniture set made for children from 3 to 7 years old and it’s easy to carry for adult. Year

WE MAKE IT WORKS our concept
When everything just come too easily, people tend to forget appreciating what’s around us, how did things happened and see everything as granted. By telling the story behind the product and let our costumers to feel the atmosphere surrounded in person, this is our main strategy to introduce Alce Nero products to public, and we are not only talking about the product, more importantly, the brand. We’d like to focus on tea products, the culture of drinking tea is all around the world and tea is not just a beverage. Like coffee for Italians, champaign for French, Tea stands for a good time together with carefree conversations with friends and so on in a lot of cultures. Base on this concept, we introduce a space emerging with the culture of where product come from and let people understand the story behind. The tea product of Alce Nero is from the Himalaya, India. We are not just selling the product, we sell story. The aim is to give our customers a delightful experience, and share with everyone. In life, a little happiness can change the world.

This is the tea box that we will deliver to our customer, inside you can find every elements you need for a perTe’ tempory tea shop in it. Our constraction is basically all made out of pallet and evrythings are totally re-usable, including the contain box as well. The whole project involves 2 tea boxs and we use the container as a storage place for water and so on, we put them in the back of the shop and with logo on it. Which shows our project to people who’s passing by and this is also a part of out advertisement which includes 28 pallets, 12 pillows, 1 black board and facility.

Water
Having different tea cups means to combine the aspect of showing different cultures and to underline the importance of brining people with different background all together. In this tea box we introduce the original tea cup that Indain people use, which is the cup made out of earth. After using people can just leave it on the ground and the nature will abort it back to mother land.
Would you like a teaspoon of sugar? Yes? Okay, here’s your wooden spoon, which in the end of the spoon made of a teaspoon amount of sugar! The concept is to decrease waste by re-packaging sugar.
Getting water in the temporary teashop we use the permanent water system of the city. Connecting the hydrant to our tea box, use it as a place for storage the water for the amount of 7000 litters. so the water can goes directly to the bar, we use the water for cleaning; heat it up for our tea and also for making our teaspoon. Then after we use, the water can goes back to the system. This is the circle of our water using system.

Electricity
The sugar that we are using is a biological and Fairtrade product from Alce Nero, produced in the best area of Central America. In particular, the brown sugar is the work of our partners Cepicafè. Is obtained with a delicate procedure that preserves the content of mineral salts. It is packaged on site to ensure local communities further opportunities for economic growth and social development.
The concept of combining culture brings us to introduce verity of tea from all over the world. We have tea from Japan, China, Taiwan, England and most importantly: India. In the higher areas of the Nilgiri plateau in South India and in the renowned area of Darjeeling in the Himalayan foothills, there are the famous tea gardens, where the expert hands of about 1,300 workers to cultivate and harvest to turn them to black tea and green tea of Alce Nero organic plantations are a real natural paradise in which they work especially women, who benefit from more services for the community as guaranteed by the retail Fairtrade.
In order to make a tasty cup of tea, we need electricity to the stovetop for providing hot water. The electricity energy comes from the gas bottle hides behind the bar.
WE PROVIDE BEST SERVICE our coaster and cup
We provide two kinds of tea, both made out of the black tea of Alce Nero. The first one is “CHAI”, is a kind of mix with sugar, caramel, milk and ginger. Another one is the original “DARJELLING” tea, to let our costumers to try the purest taste from Himalaya. For the tea cup, allow us to introduce the original tea cup that Indian people use, which is the cup made out of earth. After using people can just leave it on the ground and the nature will abort it back to mother land. The coaster is the detail to make our system complete. There are two types of coasters, one for “CHAI” another for “DARJELLING”. Costumers can come to our cashier and order the tea they prefer, we write your name on the coaster and it would let costumers to understand the idea more completely.
WE DEVELOPE PRODUCTS

Would you like a teaspoon of sugar? Yes? Okay, here’s your wooden spoon, which in the end of the spoon made of a teaspoon amount of sugar! The concept is to decrease waste by re-packaging sugar. What we would need to produce this spoon would bea mould of silicon, wooden spoon and melted sugar. We will melt our sugar and put it inside of the mould then put our spoon into the mould and wait until it’s cold down, the last step would we to pull it out, finish!

Design FOR MADAGASCAR

III year
TSARA École I went to Madagascar in Septmber 2014 for a project called “TSARA”. It was a project in collobration with United Nation. After that special experience, I started to think about the defination of “real design” and what can we do next for Madagascar. Therefore, I wrote my thesis about a new form of school in Madagascar. What is TSARA ÉCOLE?
create work opportunity
provide education
help from the world
international awarness
Malagasy self-awareness
TSARA means beautiful and nice in Malagasy, École is school in French. Combining the two official language of Madagascar to show that this project is a proposal especially for this country. It’s a school system that let parents can go to school together with their children. Parents can learn skills and kids are there for the education that they deserve to have. (There isn’t public education in Madagascar yet) There are several stages for this system, the short-term aim is to provide education to kids and to create family income. And the long-term aim is to let the Malagasy people to understand their own value and bring hope to people around them.

We all know what Médecins Sans Frontières is, those volunteer doctors has made this world a better place. Why can’t we also have a system for volunteer designers? The school will prepare accommodation and living essentials for our volunteer designers from all over the world. Before they come, they will need to register on our website. We select the best match for our artisans in order to reach the best value for the designers to come all the way here in Madagascar. And we will ensure the safty of our volunteers.

What is in TSARA ÉCOLE? TSARA ÉCOLE is a system that combines the physical school with on-line resources, physical school location is in the capital city of Madagascar-Antananarivo (or we also call it Tana). In the school we have the following elements: 1. Classroom: The classroom for adults hace a border from the one for children. So they won’t disturb each other. 2. Show room: Display the works that TSARA ÉCOLE has produced before, along with the introduction of the school as a brand for the visitors to have a better idea of what our doing and understand the story behind. 3. Accommodation for volunteers: Simple and clean is the main concern for our volunteers. Our accommodation can make sure that they don’t need to worry about that in they staying and they will also have a good time. 4. Farm: In the school we also provide lessons for adult about agriculture. With all the knowledge they got from the school they can spread it to their neighborhood. Within time we can see the progress of food quality in Madagascar. 5. Office: The TSARA ÉCOLE team’s office is right located in the school so we can be able to provide the most direct help when ever we are needed. We want the whole team be replace by Malagasy in the end, by that time, we can say that “we made it”

presentation
Adult: After two months of training . Here comes our design volunteers from aboard, together they create new design products.
Adult: Each one has to present at least one product that come out with the help of our designers. We will choose the best ones to produce our new collection.
Children: Basically children have same teachers all along, but occasionally they have visitors such as doctors, engineers to teach them something new and different.
Children: Exam week, to understand if the education is given in the way that helps them the most.
conclusion 1.Modify the selected product. 2.Start selling. 3.Assign the production line. 4.Ready for new students.
end=new start 1.We can provide our students who have the ability to produce by themselves at home a certificate. With the certification, they can keep producing the products that they already know and take orders from school. They can also start up some new ideas with the help of school. 2.New students coming in. With the profit we got from the last semester, our aim is to let the system run without donations.
Why do we need this?
This project is designed especially for Madagascar, a country that’s forgotten for people in other countries. In the circumstance without public education or any art or design school. But we should all have the same human right to go to school and have our own dreams for the future. TSARA ÉCOLE is here to combine both. The final goal of TSARA ÉCOLE is to let the whole idea run by local Malagasy people. Once they start to understand their own value and be proud of who they are, it will be the end of our mission because they already have the capability to make their country better and better. How the system benifits everyone?

Why is it different? There are a lot of nice projects that has been done by NGOs such as UN, Green Peace and Red Cross. However, after my study at NABA I tend to solve problems in a designer’s thinking. In Madagascar there are too many problems that no one can make it right in a short time. Therefore we need to be really patient about it. Believe that things will be change some day. And we have the power to change the world, all of us!
go to school together
corse designed for Madagascar
international volunteer designers
Two different courses for both parents and children.
Madagascar is not like other countries in Africa and TSARA ÉCOLE is a project designed especially for this country. Base on the craftsmanship and resource they have, but not to harm the environment.
Designer is not like other jobs, we tend to spend more time to search for what we really want for life and get inspired. After my visit in Madagascar I’m inspired and I want to share it with other designers.
So the family can go to the school together learning knowledge that they need.
What would I do?
raffia x origami In my opinion, a product won’t work by itself, there’s always a system. I would like to present the system of the school first. Madagascar is not a place like Milan that we have all the new technology to build whatever we want. Therefore I won’t consider CNC or 3D printing in this project for now. After my visit I understand what is the limit for them and I came out with the idea of making origami shape in raffia. It’s just like combine my own background with this project. This new way of weaving is different from what they used to do, but it’s actually easier and less time consuming. That’s why I want to make this in Madagascar. With the same idea we can make a lot of products in the same collection. I’m presenting a chair set and two lamp for example.

NAFARM is a space where we provide our young designers a place to relax and enjoy a bit of nature in this urban jungle. Our farm is open to everyone in NABA to grow their own vegetable, which they can harvest afterwards. Through this process designers can have a healthier mind as well as a healthier diets. We placed it on top of building L, right above of in the library can see what’s happening above their heads. It’s like looking into another world of carefree and relaxing paradise.
About the furniture we placed in NAFARM. We also designed them by ourselves. Our rotating table, made for easy transformation from single use to group meetings. Our Private box, made for private discussion and studying group that does not want to be disturb. Our bar, placed between windows, specially design to open on both sides to reduce the use of space and provide good services regardless the weather condition. We have also in- stall a small cooking station where people could cook their own vegetables for a picnic on our roof.

We all have our fragile side. Sometimes I need to be needed. I want to feel that I am belong with something or some groups. Like a puzzle that needs to be solved. Sometimes this world is so different than I ever have imagined. I think know exactly what’s going on, but I’ll just close one of my eye and hope that it’s getting better and better. I’m not stupid, I just believe too much in my faith. Things that come out of people’s mouth can hurt others more than weapons. I do my best to think twice before talking and also I try to ignore some words from other people. I know they don’t mean it, but sometimes it hurts still.
