We always like concept motorcycle, and the B M W Motorrad’s Concept Link is one of them. It’s true that BMW motorcycles have rarely opted for what you might term prettiness, but the Concept Link takes oddness to a new level. Alexander Buckan, head of vehicle design at BMW Motorrad says; “The BMW Motorrad Concept Link is not based on today’s concepts, but rather meets the basic functionality needs, the technical architecture and the digital reality of today’s users.” It is, it probably goes without saying, powered by electricity, flat energy packs being fitted into the floor and the electric motor hidden in the rear wheel. With the batteries being stored in the floor and no requirement for a traditional fuel tank, it’s almost a given that the design will lean more towards what we think of as a scooter than a motorcycle. However, although BMW is refusing to give figures, the word is that this is one very fast machine. The long bench seat is adjustable for preference and to take more passengers (although one issue has to be the legalities of carrying more than two people on a two-wheeled vehicle), while underneath is a storage compartment which is accessed using a sliding door. Because the electric power can be ‘reversed’, so can this machine, giving the rider a reverse gear for getting out of parking spaces. If you thought that was trick, it now starts to
veer into the realms of science fiction because the concept because the Concept Link is designed to interact with the rider’s clothing. An accessory will be a BMW jacket described as ‘a fashion statement and deliberately not recognizable as motorcycle gear’ which will require only a movement of the arm to open the luggage compartment door. The Concept Link is also able to link up, like so many things, to the rider’s smartphone and access your calendar, plot routes and even pick the ambient music for a journey. Instead of a classic instrument cluster, speed, navigation and battery info is projected onto the windshield directly into the rider’s field of vision with other info displayed on a large touch-sensitive panel under the handlebars, while the ’bars themselves also feature programmable function buttons, much in the way that many car steering wheels do. The company claims the Concept Link will ‘reinvent urban mobility’ indeed Perhaps we’re old-fashioned but, clever and impressive as it may be, we’re not quite ready for this vision of the future yet.
KTM has, in the past, come up with some inspired ideas – and we don’t mean just motorcycles. W ho cant fail to love a company whose merchandise range has included the KTM cuckoo clock, the KTM barbecue apron and a bright orange toaster that emblazoned KTM onto every lice of bread? But even KTM would be proud of the latest work of Ricardo Gutiérrez Bustos, an Argentinian design student who has come up with the KTM unicycle. The one-wheeled, all electric machine with integral gyroscopic technology to stay upright manage the trick of actually looking like a KTM, yet only being half of one, as it were. Will KTM put t he idea into production? We wouldn’t bet against it…

2017 HONDA CBR1000RR SP2

We were very lucky to get the Honda CBR1000RR SP2 for review. While this is the homologated for WSBK version of Honda’s Fireblade, with only 500 units produced in the world and only 2 in Malaysia. This road bike is Honda HRC top of the line version so test is very special and it’s also getting quick enough to feel the electronics doing their stuff and to discover the top-end-friendly engine changes that the SP2 has in to gear than the ordinary CBR1000RR. We found out 15 things that you should know about the CRB1000RR SP2 On the Honda brochure describes the SP2 as ‘Fast’, ‘fun’ and ‘safe. We been lucky enough to ride pretty much every sports bike of the last 10 years and, in my opinion the current Fireblade SP2 is the best all-round road package of any CBR series. Small, light, unfeasibly easy to ride with simple-to-
use electronic aids and semi-active Ohlins suspension that does ride quality and high-speed handling control at the same time. In theory, turning something this good into a TT winner should be simple, but as we all saw so dramatically last summer, theory and practice can be very different things. On paper, at least, it looks very special indeed. The SP2 comes with the lighter Marchesini wheels which makes the bike turn faster with the Ohlins suspension and plus the traction control. The SP2 is a track bike and I shall ride it on the roads is simply awesome feeling!
The HRC project focus was to develop the 2017 Honda CBR1000RR SP to be much more precise and powerful. To do that, Honda has lowered the overall weight, reduced inertia by concentrating the mass to the machine’s center of gravity, increased the engine’s power, and incorporated a suite of electronic control systems that includes semi-active Öhlins suspension.
1. There are actually two 2017 Honda CBR1000RR SP models—the SP and SP2. The SP2 is for race homologation purposes and comes with lightweight aluminium wheels. The HRC race kit for the SP2 will be available to qualified race teams with only 500 SP2 will be produced in the world 2. Just about everything on the flagship CBR has changed. 68 percent of it is new. 3. This is the most gorgeous Fireblade ever made; the aggressive yet sophisticated lines are accented by a deep, liquid red/white/blue paint scheme that is both elegant and exotic. The beautiful new fivespoke wheels are slightly lighter than the six-spoke ones they replace. 4. The new SP is sharper, narrower, and looks more aggressive. The differences between the new and current model are obvious when viewing from the front.
i-Moto
5. The 2017 SP2 is around 16kg lighter than the 2016 spec SP. Yes, you read that right—16kg! That is an almost unheard of weight reduction. It comes from items such as the world’s first production titanium gas tank that saves almost 1.3kg, strategically thinner sections to the walls of the frame and swingarm, magnesium used for the oil pan and ignition cover (saving 2kg), a titanium muffler (over 2.5kg lighter), and there li-ion phosphate battery. 6. The CBR1000RR SP2 will be much easier to ride. The current model is supremely light and flickable, but because the yaw moment of inertia has been reduced by 15 percent, and the roll inertia by 10 percent, it will translate to a lighter and more compact motorcycle that will move even more easily to the will of the rider. 7. The 2017 SP2 engine produces 10 more horsepower. The rev limit is raised from 12,250 rpm to 13,000, and power to weight ratio is improved by a whopping 14 percent. 8. Öhlins electronically controlled suspension is highend. This is the first Honda that comes with semiactive suspension, and it has three levels of adjustability. Fitted to the SP are Öhlins 43mm NIX 30 EC forks and a TTX 36 EC shock.
9. The 2017 CBR1000RR SP2 comes with a full suite of customizable electronics developed directly from the RC213V-S. All electronic functions are individually switchable on the fly. As on the RC213V-S, there are five preset positions with factory recommended configurations—two of presets are open and fully customizable by the rider. 10. Rider aids are abundant. The 2017 CBR1000RR gets nine levels of Honda Selectable Torque Control (aka traction control), and that includes Rear Wheel Slip Control. Wheel speeds and lean angle are measured using technology developed for Honda’s amazing ASIMO robot, and rear wheel spin and slide are controlled. There are 3-levels of engine braking control, from aggressive to mild. 11. Wheelie Control mitigates front-wheel lift based on the difference in wheel speeds. Despite using a Bosch IMU for pitch, roll, and yaw data, Honda chose not to use the pitch (back and forth) data for wheelie control. Wheelies are a complex phenomenon with some riders wanting lots of front wheel elevation, and others wanting very little or none. It was easy to control the machine with a little back brake, and the Honda reacts so well to rider input. But make no mistake, this is an expert-level motorcycle and as far as wheelies go, in normal circumstances, with smooth throttle input out of slower corners, the wheelie control built into the 9level traction control floats the front nicely in a lowheight wheelie that allows maximum drive from corners. This system is inherited from the RC213VS exotic that we tested last year, and that bike in turn got those electronics from Honda’s MotoGP machine. So it works well as designed; it aids rider control instead of interfering with it. 12. The CBR1000RR motor is now throttle-by-wire, and there are five levels of power. Level 1 is full power with each other level reducing both power and level of aggression. The system is, again, developed from the RC213V-S, and there are no cables to be seen; the throttle position sensor is in the twist grip.
i-Moto 13. Intelligent ABS has been developed. The CBR1000RR SP’s ABS includes rear-lift control that subtly reduces braking force as rear wheel lift is detected. This allows maximum brake force without the SP becoming overly unbalanced. The ABS also allows for smooth, maximum effect braking on corner entry by controlling brake force according to lean angle. Hard trail braking right to a corner’s apex is claimed to be easier with this system. 14. The CBR now comes with a quickshifter that includes a blip-downshifter. The feel can be adjusted between three levels on upshifting and downshifting, and benefits include shifting up or down without the throttle or clutch, as well as reducing the load on the transmission during shifting. 15. The instrument cluster is full-color TFT liquid crystal display, and from the RC213V-S.Three selectable displays include Street, Circuit, and Mechanic. Turns dark when low light is detected and white back light when there is lights. All switches, except the start/stop, are now integrated into left handlebar switch module. This includes the lap-timer switch, while the mode and selector switches are moved from the instrument cluster to the left handlebar.
The Honda CBR1000RR SP2 is completely and radically different from the current CBR models. It is much lighter, more powerful, and it has all the de rigours electronic goodies to help riders. The current model is an amazing motorcycle, despite forgoing any updating for several years. We found out how good the Honda CBR1000RR SP2 is. Special thanks to Madani Bikes owner En Hairi Jasadi for his CBR1000RR SP2 for our review.

THE AFRICA TWIN WILL SET YOU FREE
The strong 1000cc parallel twin has the same 4-valve Unicam head design as its competitive CRF cousins. It delivers handfuls of torque so satisfying and addictive; it will tempt you to break free from the tarmac at the earliest opportunity. Dual spark plugs per cylinder, a lightweight camshaft made from the same material and proven to give this bike a distinctive feel and its character as the Fireblade and a 270° phased crankshaft all of its own. It’s like a drumbeat. The linear will lift your spirit even more when you hear that response, when you roll on and off the throttle, unmistakeable, off-road, 4-stroke growl. Wrapped in a steel double-cradle frame, the engine’s compact dimensions allow other components to be mounted closer to the centre of machine; centralizing the mass and lowering the centre-of-gravity. With a class leading 250mm ground clearance for off-road excursions, riding this bike feels like second nature. There’s nothing to hold you back. This unique, light and agile combination of power and handling not only sets new standards for adventure bikes… it will set you free.

We all know is the legendary Africa Twin name is back, and we've ridden.
Africa Twin Road Test Honda is serious about the CRF1000L Africa Twin as a proper adventure bike and we got the DCT model which was immediately impressive. All big roosting sideways drifts and the supple fully-adjustable conventional suspension soaking up the urban obstacles, gravel, sandy roads and twisty narrow trunk roads. It’s quite a bike. When Honda says that it’s a True Adventure, and Honda kept true to their words. This is one of the most impressive big adventure bikes I could ever want to ride off-road. The CRF1000L Africa Twin is a bonafide impressive adventure bike from the word go. Well first when we rode the next generation DCT twin clutch transmission at Sepang Circuit, we weren’t really use to the clutchless especially my foot trying to change gear and my clutch hand trying to clutch. But this road-test makes the DCT Africa Twin, so easy to ride and lower seating compare to other adventure bikes. Share the name with the original and some of its styling DNA of the 57bhp Honda XRV650 back in 1988, and the later 1990 XRV750 Africa Twin which made 61bhp, but they are totally different machines. The new CRF1000L Africa Twin combines the Africa Twin heritage and a style cues but uses the best of Honda’s current technical philosophy. So there are two version of Africa bikes. One using a DCT automatic gearbox with a mesmerising 80 possible mode settings from traction control and power delivery to levels of gear selection and hill control. And the second, more basic but blindingly good
manual bike which we review back in 2016. The spec of the 93.8bhp inline twin cylinder engine with it’s fancy Unicam system and 270 degree crank, puts the new Africa Twin right in the middle of bikes like the R1200GS and the F800GS. Both versions of the Africa Twin use the same CRF450 Rally bike inspired frame design and that fluid, linear twin cylinder over square motor. It’s no surprise that the bike’s chief designer, Italian Maurizio Carbonara, said the bike’s styling combines CRF Rally bikes and the original Africa Twin inspired lines. Compared to a BMW R1200GS which makes around 125bhp, the Honda has rightfully been criticised for being under powered. A KTM 1190 Adventure making around 150bhp would smoke it. But that’s not the point. It slots neatly in the middle somewhere. And it can ride anywhere, just as Honda intended. You want escape? You would want an Africa Twin. The dual-clutch transmission is immediately obvious because the engine case sticks out slightly further, and there’s no clutch lever. Just a parking hand brake in its place, tucked away behind the handguards. To use the DCT you simply start the bike, push the right-hand button into D for drive, or S for Sport and engage one of the three new sport settings. S1 is the entry-level to sports mode, then there’s S2 which hangs on to gears longer, and S3 which is used for more extreme sports riding and hangs onto gears till the redline. Add in a G button for improved connection with the bike and the throttle when off-road, and the hill climb and descent technology which changes gear depending on the ascent or incline. We haven’t had much chance to use the G switch as we discovered the G mode later in the review but its meant for offroad sections.
i-Moto
The DCT shifts is seamlessly and sometimes I think better than most humans can. It just shifts, the number on the dash changes and the engine note changes. But I can adjust it manually by using the forefinger and thumb buttons for + and – if you want to manually override. But it’s on-the-road where the new Africa Twin will be spending most of its life. But you could take it offroad with ease and it does do it. Impressively so. Adventure bikes are all things to all men, so one moment they need enough ground clearance to ride off-road, the next they’re two-up with a pillion going touring. They need to be ridden fast occasionally and do the regular commute. So it’s all credit to Honda they’ve managed to pull of such an accomplished
bike that ticks all the boxes makes me wanting one. It’s so incredibly capable and fun. The Africa Twin bike is as easy to ride around town in ‘D’ mode. Just twist and go. At first it feels complicated. Like there are too many buttons and switches, but it soon becomes second nature. Only when riding really fast did it take some getting used too. On the way into corners, hard on the brakes I felt like I needed to switch manually down to third gear to give some more engine braking and get it on its nose, before the bike realised I wanted to be in second. It’s a small detail and one that you would soon adapt too. The DCT bike weighs 10kg more compare to the manual and the weight bias on the front slightly, but not so much that I could not notice.
In touring type riding, the DCT bike is a revelation. It gives you mental space to read the road, take in the spectacular mountain scenery and not have to think very hard about the bike at all. The riding position is ultra-comfortable. You sit very upright with big wide bars but I usually will stand up the whole sometimes the whole journey even heavy traffic as I can see better standing up. The Africa Twin is not a powerhouse in the power department but there’s just enough go. Ride it in a leisurely touring fashion at it’s doing around 120km/h at 4000rpm, just twist and go to overtake anything at that speed. But it’s relaxed, smooth and the kind of bike you can do a lot of kilometre on. And more importantly, it feels right. There’s a subtle pulse to the engine and a good feeling from the throttle which feels direct. The design of the bike, is aggressive looking, like Dakar bikes, and the LED lights give it a really distinct face when you see it on-the-road. The wide Africa Twin 750-inspired ‘shoulders’ of the bike at the front and that small looking screen do a
great job of keeping the wind off. But the screens cannot be adjusted but nicely and well designed. I’m considered short rider but the standard seat height and a standard screen I didn’t have any problems. It works incredibly well for something that appears so small. There are seat options to take the bike from standard seat height of 870mm to a 900mm high seat, or an even lower 840mm seat height is available as options. But for me, the riding position and comfort was perfect and not tippy toe. The seat is quite narrow, but comfortable and the riding position feels natural. Get it on to a twisty road and Honda’s claims of agility come true. The 21-inch front wheel means it’s more off-road biased than a BMW R1200GS with its 19-inch front and 17-inch rear, but it works on the road too. Dual-purpose Dunlop Trailmax tyres give decent lean angles and feel even when on the road surface. Though when riding really fast you could feel the 21inch front almost tucking when you hit some oscillations in a corner a couple of times.

“Those who don’t like to be notice is not recommended to get this bike”
We took a road trip to Penang with my bike buddy Alfred as pillion and rider, we took turn riding the XMax 250, in this review will have two impression. So what is my impression? A little history about Yamaha XMax 250 was designed and born in Europe where a powerful scooter is needed for riding and stability for speeds ranging from 120km/h on the highways. Since the first edition XMax, launched in 2005, more than 150,000 has been sold in Europe. Mostly young generation executive choose XMax. ERGONOMY The XMax is designed to facilitate the transition of riders to automatic who wants elegant and a luxurious dashboard and cockpit. New XMax come with
keyless, comfortable seat, with the handlebar position for upright riding. When I sit, ergonomic of XMax gives the feeling a comfortable riding position. The handlebar is quite high but in the range of relax. Feet have three kinds of positions. The most relaxed position stretches forward rather upward. Normal position is your feet on the middle. And the position is more aggressive, I normally ride with my legs pull back towards the hip axis on the pillion foot rest when I’m riding solo. On our road trip to Penang Island we took turns riding about 2 hours each to without feeling tired. The position of the seat is quite wide which causes for riders below 170cm to require more tip toeing. But it doesn't mean shorter riders can't.
i-Moto
HANDLING On the road, this 178 kg scooter turned out to be quite nimble and easily flick from right to left, help by the low center of gravity and its wider tire size compare NMax or NVX in general, it can still be considered agile even aggressive in tight corners. How about the traffic jam? Although the XMax is longer its quite easy to manuviour thorough heavy rush hour traffic. Windshield wind protection is quite adequate. Not too high and still giving breath to the body. Windshield can be shifted by using an Allen key. SUSPENSION AND BRAKING The front suspension seems to be set for city riding or long riding with good road conditions as feel pretty hard. This causes the XMax quite easy to control even though the weight does seem to have less rebound. When riding on a long curve at the PLUS highway at speeds above 120++, We still can ride with one hand and feeling comfortable , even in the wet (was raining all the way back from Taiping). For the rear suspension can be adjusted
according to feeling, there are no crunches and felt pretty hard at the back too with 6 levels of adjustments. For the brakes, the performance is pretty good. Normally for automatic scooters, always start with the rear brakes then gently added the front brakes. Feels to be rear braking, we had moment as we ride through the wet white lines as we can feel the slides. ABS has been tested very well too as there was an accident infront of us during the way back which was at a high speed bend near Rawang, the they stopped at the fast lane as we were travelling around 120km/h Alfred tapped on the rear brakes and we navigated pass the incident.

POWER For a 250 automatic the engine is really is pretty delicious I would say. If you full throttle like I do on an automatic the power easily rose to the speed of 130km/h. Remember my weight is 50kg, Top speed that I get is 155 km/h when I riding solo, with Alfred as pillion 145km/h. The sweet spot in the range of 4-6k RPM. To stop n go, it's really fun for touring who need a medium power and it's still friendly when it comes to long distance riding on a scooter. But we found out that if a heavier rider like Alfred who weighs about 90kg riding make the XMax faster by 5km/h vs me weighing 50kg. Alfred got 150km/h while I full throttle I only got 145km/h with Alfred as pillion! PROs: • Practical and comfortable • Design and finished quality elegant • Power is in the RIGHT range • Crazy luggage capacity is very big, suitable for office • Traction Control helps control, especially when cornering on an uneven surface. CONs: • For bikers height under 170cm, extra tippy toe is needed • The front suspension if you want to ride on an unfavourable road surface seems to
need to be upgraded • Feature Keyless feature distance should a bit further as it pretty annoying alert sound even when walking a few steps to close the gate. CONCLUSION Riding an XMax250, it's hard to shake off the feeling that we're riding scooter but good power in the lower-middle range. An elegant view of the road through the cockpit. Our view position is higher than other motorists. All attention gained when stopping at the traffic or parking, for sure some one will walk toward us and ask us about this scooter. Lotsa space under the seat to store 2 bags and take out the bags can replace with 2 full face helmets.

THROTTLE CONTROL
KNOW YOUR…
Easy wheelies.
DominoQuickActionThrottlestosee howtheywork,whattheydo,andifyou shouldhaveonefittedtoyourbike…
What does a quick action throttle do? Ultimately, it changes the ratio of movement on the twist grip assembly to the reaction at the injector or carburettor end. Effectively you’ll be getting more bang for your back as you twist the grip! It’s especially effective on more recent models; a lot of the newer bikes are so powerful, there’s an incredibly wide range of movement to help if you’re a bit hamfisted, essentially meaning you need to twist the grip further to open the throttle. Sometimes that means you’ve almost got to dislocate your wrist, whereas our systems come in at just a quarter turn, making life much smoother for the rider. It helps to make riding easier, especially if riders are
susceptible to fatigue and arm pump, as it’s less stress on your muscles. Are they adjustable? Yes, absolutely. For example, the cams for our most popular model, the XM2 quick action throttle, which is used in Moto2, come with three different sensitivity rings. These rings adjust the ratio in which the throttle moves, as the cable is mounted in slightly different positions and routed slightly differently. It essentially makes the throttle either more or less sensitive to movement in the throttle as an example the smallest ring will give 2.6º per millimetre of movement, whereas the biggest is 2.9º for each millimeter of cable travel. Domino Grips are expensive. Do you need to use Domino grips? You don’t need to, but it’s definitely worth it as the grips are really well made.
Any (Italian flag) colour you like.
SUZUKI UNVEIL NEW KATANA
FIVE FAST FACTS 1 2
3 4 5
Domino supply throttles to teams in each tier of top flight With a huge pedigree and multiple titles, Domino have been creating quick action throttles since 1991. Unlike many other brands on the market today, each product is made in their factory in Italy. Although Domino started in Italy, they now distribute to more than 40 countries all over the world. It’s not all about racing, as Domino now supply to off-road bikes and road bikes including tourers and even scooters!
After unveiling a brand new Katana concept at EICMA in 2017 that teased us all, Suzuki have finally pulled the pin and made the dream a reality for2019. Essentially, under the skin of the gorgeously reworked body the Katana is a modified version of the GSXS1000, using the same 2008 GSX-R1000 engine as the previous naked which has been tuned to give just under 150 hp although there’s a few
slight changes to the geometry of the throttle connection to make the Katana as smooth as possible from the get go. The same goes for the frame, which is once again based on the current GSXS1000; although a little fun fact is that it does only weigh about the same as what you’d find on the current GSX-R1000. Suzuki have equipped the Katana with fully adjustable KYB
front forks and shock as well, alongside the ever popular Brembo radial mount Monoblock front brake calipers for some decent braking power. They’re the same stoppers you get on the GSX-R1000, although the discs are slightly smaller at 310mm. Electronically, the Katana comes equipped with a three-mode traction control system (and off), alongside the Suzuki Easy Start System for one touch start up and the Low RPM Assist system to try and help you not to stall. They’ve also equipped it with an LCD dash. They’ve kept the styling pretty retro with the distinctive shape still evident, and although there isn’t word yet of when they’ll be in dealerships and what the price is, we expect them to be hitting the Malaysia some time around April with a price of around about RM60k….Ish.

NEWS
The 4th annual road safety campaign was held in conjunction with coming Chinese New Year celebration organized by Kawasaki Motors (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd in collaboration with Malaysia Motorcycle and Scooter Dealers Association (MMSDA) , Road Safety Department of Malaysia (JKJR), Road Transport Ministry (JPJ) and Royal Police (PDRM) at Sg Besi Toll, Kuala Lumpur here today. It has become a tradition when approaching the Malaysian festive celebration, Kawasaki Motors with cooperation with Bridgestone Tyre, KHI Helmets and AEON hosted a safety campaign and with 16 part safety check-up for any motorcycle brand and model for free. The JKJR Director YB Dato Rosli bin Isa, officiated the safety campaign, he express his concern for the motorcyclist which has the highest fatality figures, the number of deaths due to accidents from 2007 to 2017 is 72,948 and 45,036 or 62% is motorcyclist and pillion fatality. It clearly shows that motorcyclist are the most high risk road users . The real reason for these statistics is from other road users of the highway itself, such as driving over the speed limit, changing paths without giving signals or passing signals, racing, fatigue, using mobile phones while driving and running the red light. Old helmets are exchanged for new ones by KHI Helmets!

PURSUING THEDREAM Soichiro Honda said, ‘We only have one future, and it will be made of our dreams, if we have the courage to challenge convention.’ Honda’s philosophy in dreaming of a better world for people catalysed the invention of the ASIMO, HondaJet, NSX and the legendary Africa Twin. Dreams can be powerful, they push you to achieve more, to explore new ideas, new technologies and uncover new ways of solving problems. It takes independent thinking and audacity to pursue dreams. It also takes passion and innovation to never allow the dream to die and to shape them into a reality for the modern day world.
