i-Moto Honda Racing Corporation is pleased to announce that Alberto Puig has been appointed as the new Team Manager at the Repsol Honda Team, beginning with the first MotoGP test of the year, at Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit, 28-30 January. Following a racing career that included a 500cc race win and a lengthy stint aboard Hondas, Puig established himself as one of the most respected managers in the motorcycling field. As HRC Advisor, his most recent role has been as Director of the Asia Talent Cup and British Talent Cup. In his new position as Team Manager for the Repsol Honda Team, Puig will report directly to HRC Director-General Manager Race Operations, Management Division Tetsuhiro Kuwata. He and Technical Manager Takeo Yokoyama will be responsible for racing operations.

i-Moto For the upcoming official MotoGP test in Thailand, Buriram, Monster Yamaha Tech3 calls for the services of Hafizh Syahrin. With just 23 years of age, the Malaysian rider is already looking back on four years of Moto2 experience and now feels more than ready to make his first steps in the premier class of motorcycle racing. Following three exciting days of testing at the all-new venue for the MotoGP category, the Monster Yamaha Tech3 team together with its partners will evaluate the performance of the new arrival in order to decide a possible permanent ride concerning the 2018 season.
“First of all, I want to thank Herve Poncharal for giving me this opportunity and of course the entire Monster Yamaha Tech3 team. I’ll try to do my very best during these three days in Thailand. For me, it’s a dream coming true to be able to ride a MotoGP machine. I have to admit, that I’m overly excited to get this chance. I hope I can be fast from the word go to show everybody what I’m capable of. In addition, I want to thank Razlan and all the people, who support me and made this possible. I’m incredibly happy and I’m looking forward to be in Buriram, because it will be the very first time ever I can ride a MotoGP bike. I know that I have to learn a lot abroad the Yamaha YZR-M1 and I’m eager to try to understand how the team works as I know that they are very experienced, so I want to make the most of their input. During this winter, I trained a lot, yet I hope this hard work pays off and I can’t wait to get this test started.”
“I’m really happy and honored to have the possibility to have Hafizh Syahrin with us for the test in Buriram. As everybody knows, since Jonas Folger decided that he couldn’t race in 2018, we’ve been looking for who could be the right replacement rider. Following the Sepang test, we had many meetings and it has been decided that Hafizh Syahrin would be a very good choice for the Monster Yamaha Tech3 team. Right now, it is only three days, but I am more than convinced that Hafizh is going to show us what he can do. He is young, only 23 years old, has already done some podiums in the Moto2 class, which is not easy. He ended inside the top 10 in the final ranking of Moto2 in 2017, which is a huge achievement, because I know how tough this category is. As I always said, to have a young rider is much more meaningful for the team than having an already established rider. Let’s do the test, I’m already full of excitement and optimism and really soon after Buriram we will take a final decision. Yet, I would like to thank Razlan Razali from Sepang International Circuit, who is the team manager of Hafizh Syahrin.”

Zulfahmi, who competed in the World Supersport Championship for the past two seasons, will be challenging for honours in Moto2; joining forces with his former associates at SIC Racing Team on board of a Kalex machine. Fahmi will have his first taste of the 600cc Moto2 machine on February 6 as the team participates in a three-day official test at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain.
“It’s really great to have this opportunity. So, I would like to thank SIC, especially Dato’ Razlan for his continuous support and his belief in me. I’m really excited to return to the MotoGP paddock. In Valencia, the focus will be on improving my feeling on the Moto2 bike and getting up to speed quickly. I don’t think it’s that bigger step for me from Supersport to Moto2; but for sure the competition will be hard and I have to do a lot more laps. I hope to get some good data in Valencia before we test the following week in Malaysia.

i-Moto A road safety campaign was held in conjunction with coming Chinese New Year celebration organised with Malaysia Motorcycle and Scooter Dealers Association (MMSDA) with Kawasaki Motors (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, It has become a tradition when approaching the Malaysian festive celebration, Kawasaki Motors with cooperation with Bridgestone Tyre, KHI Helmets and AEON hosted a safety campaign and with 16 part safety check-up for any motorcycle brand and model for free. The Transport Minster Y.B. Dato ‘ Sri Liow Tiong Lai, officiated the campaign and because express his concern for the motorcyclist which has the highest fatality figures, the number of deaths due to accident for 2016 is 7,152 fatality and of that amount, 4,485 fatality are motorcyclist and pillion riders. It clearly shows that motorcyclist are the most high risk road users.
The real reason for these statistics is from other road users of the highway itself, such as driving over the speed limit, changing paths without giving signals or passing signals, racing, fatigue, using mobile phones while driving and so on.

The Dakar Rally is the toughest motorsport race on the planet. Two weeks of competition covering a gruelling 9,000 kilometres across South America requires machinery and riders that can go the distance. With 2017 Champion Sam Sunderland out while leading during stage 4, Sam’s Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Matthias Walkner takes his first Dakar Rally title, marking phenomenal 17th consecutive Dakar title for KTM racing. Riding KTM’s new rally weapon for Dakar 2018, which Walkner deliver their 17th consecutive victory in the race. After two years of development it’s most certainly a visual step forward in the evolution of rally bikes, with the new 450 Rally looking sleeker, slimmer and trimmer than its predecessor. It looks closer to an enduro bike than we’ve seen before. Under that new bodywork features an all-new engine with higher peak performance balanced by a new engine management system with a better throttle body to improve response. Argentine Kevin Benavides, who won the final stage on his Honda, was second overall. Walkner completed the 14th and final stage of the event in eighth place, more than enough to ensure a hard-fought overall victory – the first for an Austrian in the Dakar Rally. Walkner’s victory gave KTM a 17th consecutive motorcycle class win as he found the right balance between raw speed and error-freed navigation. Stage 10 was the game-changer, for Walkner ending the day with an almost 30-minute advantage over his nearest competitor.

The new Modenas RS200 Pulsar gave Modenas a significant boast with its collaboration with Bajaj from India. This actually our second ride on the Pulasr RS after testing on the Elite Speedway Circuit. The road test was conducted mainly in the wet, and around Klang Valley. This review we will combine both road & track test. While the road test bike was fitted with Givi side pannier, it was actually fitting as we use RS200 as a daily city communing and used it as our prop buying daily bike during the
road test period. Since the RS is Modenas first full faring bike, ironically also Bajaj’s first full faring bike. The ABS, fuel-injected, 199.5cc liquid-cooled with Bosch ECU for optimum combustion and tri-spark 24.4hp with 18.6Nm of torque seems a value for money starter bike. Not many 200cc models are available in Malaysia, other than KTM Duke & RC 200, which Bajaj also own 49% stake at KTM, making the RS engine to be more continental type not like some Chinese copy of Japanese engines.
i-Moto The engine felt like less vibration compare to a KTM 200. Braking is courtesy a 300mm front and 230mm rear disc gripped by Bybre callipers which is a Brembo sister company (ByBrembo) with a single channel ABS. Braking remains effective. The Pulsar’s appeal remains largely for mass market riders. It is a quick, handles well and is well suited for daily use. While we still won’t call it pretty, the RS is quite good to look at except for the tail which looks like a baboon rear. However Modenas is getting back to the right direction by introducing RS, NS and the V150 to the Malaysian market. The main question here is durability, but never the less we cannot test the durability unless it’s a long termer, but with the short period of the test, coupled with wet and cold weather, but assurance from Modenas and Bajaj the RS should be able to take the bashing from younger riders. Of the hundreds who applied and the 40 hard-to-follow sessions at the Sepang go kart circuit, the ‘Dreams to MotoGP‘ program organized by Sepang International Circuit finally identified five young riders who would fill the program, two of them will have a chance to race in the CEV Championship of Spain which is recognized as a FiM sanctioned Moto3 championship. Of the hundreds who applied and the 40 hard-tofollow sessions at the Sepang go kart circuit, the ‘Dreams to MotoGP‘ program organized by Sepang International Circuit finally identified five young riders who would fill the program, two of them will have a chance to race in the CEV Championship of Spain which is recognized as a FiM sanctioned Moto3 championship. A 13-year-old was among the talented riders among the five selected riders, Muhamad Harith Haziq Zamri, and Daniel El Fahim Harris El Hadi, 14 years old. Three others aged 15 years – Muhammad Idil Fitri Mahadi, Muhammad Izam Ikmal and Mohd Danial Shami Ahmad Shahril. In addition to competing on the CEV stage of Spain, the two best riders will also gain experience in the Asian Road Racing Championship (ARRC) stage and in the Malaysian Superbike Championship (MSBK) race in the 250cc class. The other three will be competing in the Malaysian Cub Prix Championship. “The five young riders will take on a two-week intensive training under the former Moto3 and World Supersports rider, Zulfahmi Khairuddin, who are the cornerstone of the program. The training will also be supported by former rider, Ahmad Zamani Baharuddin. “They will be tested in various aspects including riding skills, fitness, dedication and commitment before Fahmi and Zamani make any selection of 2 best riders to SIC who deserve to compete in CEV
world races. “We want to choose a truly qualified racer because the program involves a huge investment,” said SIC CEO, Dato ‘Razlan Razali. Driven with the determination to produce world-class riders such as Zulfahmi, SIC launches the ‘Dream to MotoGP’ program with open online on-line registration for riders aged between 13 and 16 in December last year. Of all the hundreds of applications, 40 were selected for the test session on Saturday with the group being scaled down to 26 on last day’s test session before the last five were selected. ‘Dream to MotoGP’ is one of the talent development initiatives conducted by SIC.
i-Moto Somehow, without me buying one, Moto Guzzi is the third oldest continuously manufacturer of motorcycle company in the world, behind by a brand from America and a brand from India. To most people Moto Guzzi’s impressive racing history is all but unknown though the brand has won over 3,000 races and a couple dozen world championships. Moto Guzzi also has in history the first ever wind tunnel in the world that was built exclusively for motorcycles and it still exists behind the company’s classic big red door in Mandello del Lario. First appearing in the year of the Summer of Love, 1967, the Moto Guzzi transverse-mounted V-twin engine is a signature of the Moto Guzzi brand, though there have been attempts to copy it. Like a Boxer flat-twin, vertical parallel twin, longitudinally-mounted 90-degree twin, it’s the signature layout of a brand. Guzzi’s in-the-wind, fire-breathing, knee guards are unmistakable, even in these blacked out versions with aluminium highlights.

With the arrival of the new year, Hong Leong Yamaha Malaysia launched the new MT-09 with the CP3 engine derived from previous version but with a lot of upgrades and additional electronics and ABS. With the CP3 849cc 3 cylinder engine, has traction control and quickshifter, which delivers 115hp with a weight of 190 (wet) kilos â– Mr Keitaro Horikoshi, General Manager Sales & Marketing Division Yamaha Motor Japan made his opening speech followed by Dato Jim Khor, and officially launch the 2018 MT-09 with the price of RM47388 with 6% GST, and previewed the X-MAX 250 which will be on sale from March onward at Yamaha authorised dealers.

When the original MT-09 appeared in 2013 it impressed with its feisty three-cylinder engine and bargain price tag. But it was far from perfect. Cursed with an abrupt throttle connection and suspension that was too soft and wobbly it was a good bike but it just needed some refinement. Not that this stopped people buying it. The MT-09 sold very well (as did aftermarket shocks and ECU re-maps) and went on to spawn a family of three-cylinder bikes that includes the MT-09 Tracer sports-tourer and retro XSR900 which was never sold in Malaysia, …. yet! W hich is the bike the new MT-09 owes much of its updates to. Yamaha have effectively given the MT-09 all of the XSR900’s suspension updates and ECU maps, as well as a quickshifter and a styling refresh. Even better news is that, despite all these changes, and the Ringgit’s value falling through the floor, for the 2016 Yamaha MT-09 at non-ABS priced RM44,653 and the new 2018 MT-09 ABS is RM47,388 is only RM2735 more than before. So what are you getting for your extra investment?
While the MT-09’s chassis and swingarm remain the same, the Euro 4-compliant engine is taken from the XSR900, and that means three-stage traction control, variable fuel modes and a slipper clutch as standard, as well as a new quickshifter. The forks now have compression damping in the left leg and rebound in the right as well as variable spring preload, and while the shock still only has adjustable rebound and spring preload, it now has the XSR’s stiffer settings. On the chassis side, the seat is redesigned to be sharper (and includes a swingarm-mounted number plate holder instead of a traditional bracket), the plastics are new and the bike’s face now mimics the MT-10’s look with four LED lights. It is quite a thorough overhaul, and it significantly improves the bike. The MT-09 has always had one standout feature that’s it’s engine. But on the original bike it was hard to get the full benefit of this glorious triple as the suspension was so soft. W hen you braked into a corner its slightly longer than normal, supermoto style forks would dip and then rebound, causing the
soft shock to compress and then also ping back, setting up a rocking motion that was unsettling on bumpy back roads. Yamaha have recognised this failing and the MT’s suspension now lets you exploit the full potential of the bike’s excellent chassis . Through fast and smooth sweeping corners the MT-09’s new set-up is spot on, holding the bike securely in place on OE settings. It now corners as well as any price-rival naked, on Malaysian roads, it won’t need a tweak. Bumps can make the MT’s rear feel a touch soft, but it’s nothing that drastic and as the forks now work far better (and have comp adjustment), the rocking motion isn’t an issue. However, I’m still not convinced by the MT’s throttle response. New MT have ECU maps like XSR but the MT is still a bit too aggressive for beginners. In A-mode, which is the most abrupt, it's too feisty. STD (yes, really) is still slightly on the wild side for a precise throttle connection. It could have just been the cold conditions we rode it in giving me a loss of feeling in my fingers, but if you want to confidently hoist one up and balance it there I found B-mode was

the way to go. STD mode isn’t unbearable, but on the XSR I was happy to leave it in this all day while on the MT I tended to opt for B if I wanted to play the fool. Speaking of cold and wet roads, the traction control remains a great feature. You can leave the TC in its least sensitive mode (1) and still pop the front wheel up, while it will continue to catch any rear wheel slides in normal riding. The will be the same for the ABS, which should be faultlessly like in the Tracer we tested before. The quickshifter is really a new add-on. But honesty it’s a sales gimmick but I suppose it is a cool trinket if you are into that kind of thing, and only makes the MT-09 appear even better value. But are its faults now fixed? There is no doubt that the revised MT-09 is better than the old model when it comes to handling and technology. I suspect some will still find the suspensiona touch soft, but at

in the more aggressive modes but I don’t think this will put owners off. When you look at the MT’s price tag it remains tremendous value for money and a complete hooligan machine when required. The MT-09 is brash, wild and ballsy and it looks mad and likes to go bonkers. This has always been an MT-09 trait. If this floats your boat you will love the new MT-09. This Indian Scout convincingly carry the Indian heritage forward which is an American motorcycle we just want to ride and feel like Tom Cruise, when riding the Scout. We’re here to tell you the bike feels good, and a primary part of this is the 1,133cc, liquid-cooled, 60-degree, V-twin engine that uses chain-driven DOHC and four valves per cylinder fed by a single 60mm throttle body. It’s a semi-dry sump design with a 9,000-rpm redline. The Scout produced 86 hp at 7,730 rpm. The engine is smooth delivery and six-speed transmission give a super smooth ride and easy to handle, feels light with clutch feel is good, and engagement of gears is smooth and easy. The Indian Scout has more power and torque than its opposition, is more refined, quieter and far more flexible. The six-speed transmission has a tall first gear and a short top gear making it a close-ratio box which is unusual for a cruiser. I find myself taking most slow corners in first rather than second gear. The 16-inch tires work great with the well-damped suspension to make for sure handling and no skittishness in fast corners, with neutral chassis behaviour even when trail braking hard down to the apex. Cornering clearance is decent for the class, but the handling character makes you wish for a leaner angle. Riding position is also fairly aggressive for a cruiser, with the rider

The steel-braided brake lines give the front lever plenty of feel with ABS but I hardly use brakes. The classic instruments are a single round unit with analogue speedo and an LCD screen that includes a clock and toggles between rev counter, odometer, trip meter, engine temperature and low fuel warning. A fuel gauge would be nice, though. But the gear indicator seems like slow abit like a few mili sec once the gear already been change especially neutral. But all I can say this is a quality bike with plenty of character and an engine that will win your heart.

Lorenzo surpassed the previous best MotoGP lap of the Sepang circuit, set by Honda's Marc Marquez during winter testing in 2015, by 0.037 seconds on the final day. Maverick Vinales' laptime that stood as the best effort from the opening two days did not remain the benchmark for long on Tuesday, bettered by a 1m59.186s from Lorenzo just half an hour into the session. The Ducati rider was overhauled by Honda's Dani Pedrosa a couple of minutes later, but returned to the top spot after another hour. Lorenzo's record-breaking 1m58.830s kept him top for the remaining six hours, as premier class riders wrapped up their test programmes by focusing on long runs. Pedrosa ended the day second, with LCR Honda's Cal Crutchlow completing the top three. Lorenzo's team-mate Andrea Dovizioso was fourth, but his day was disrupted by a crash at the Turn 1 hairpin early in the session.
Pramac privateer Jack Miller wrapped up his Tuesday running early but still ended the day as the third Ducati in the top five, while Alex Rins wound up top Suzuki rider, 0.002s behind the Australian. Reigning champion Marquez took seventh ahead of Yamaha's Valentino Rossi, who was among the few riders to improve in the closing minutes of the test. Rossi's team-mate Vinales ended the day in 18th place. Tech3 Yamaha's Johann Zarco finished ninth despite an early tumble, while Pramac's Danilo Petrucci put Avintia Ducati newcomer Tito Rabat who crashed twice during the day - out of the top 10 at the chequered flag. The FIM, grand prix motorcycling's governing body, has issued a 24-bike entry list for the 2018 MotoGP season. The entry list does not confirm any new riders, with all 24 seats having been already filled, but it does clarify the rider numbers and official entrant names that will be used next year.
Xavier Simeon Five rookies - Xavier Simeon, Thomas Luthi, Franco Morbidelli, Takaaki Nakagami and Hafizh Syahrin arrive in the premier class, forming MotoGP's largest newcomer group since the 2015 season. The grid size increase from this year comes courtesy of an extra bike for the LCR squad, which for the last two seasons has run a sole Honda for Cal Crutchlow but has now added Nakagami to its line-up.

Nakagami and Crutchlow will ride with title sponsorship from Idemitsu and Castrol and respectively. In addition to MotoGP, the FIM has also issued the complete 2018 entry lists for support classes Moto2 and Moto3. The Moto2 grid is made up of 33 bikes across six different manufacturers, with dominant brand Kalex joined by Suter, KTM, Tech3, Speed Up and newcomer NTS. KTM, which has won the last two races with factory Ajo rider Miguel Oliveira, has upped its presence to six bikes next year, supplying Lowes' Interwetten team and the Kiefer Racing squad. Lowes will be one of two British riders on the grid along with Speed Up rider Danny Kent. Tarran Mackenzie has lost his Kiefer Racing ride to 2012 Moto3 champion Sandro Cortese.
