Introducing CMC Italjet Valentine 125, is inspired from the modern Italian styling and comfortable ergonomics which set to get a lot of attention from scooter fans. The Italian design adds spice to the model, we took it for a spin around CMC’s showroom in Shah Alam. The test bike which had 4km on the ODO meter felt pretty solid and handling as well. Acceleration on this 125cc scooter seems pretty impressive as the moment you twist the throttle, there is no lag feeling on this scooter, Italjet Valentine 125 is one of three models launched by CMC Motorcycle. CMC also introducing a sales concept by promoting and selling online through their official Facebook page, Instagram and their website and target to sell 2500 units of Valentine. CMC is also running a High Trade In Promo which CMC will take a motorcycle which is at low value but when trading in with CMC range of motorcycle will get a higher trade in value.

5.Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) (XE only) — An advanced Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), developed in partnership with Continental, supports the optimum function of the Optimised Cornering ABS and Traction Control on the Scrambler 1200 XE. This takes constant measurements of roll, pitch, yaw, lean angle and acceleration rates, responding with appropriate active safety features. 6.World’s first integrated GoPro control system — A world’s first for any motorcycle – Triumph introduces an integrated GoPro control system, facilitating GoPro camera operation, which is facilitated by an accessory fitted connectivity Bluetooth module. The connection and control is displayed on the TFT instruments, enabling intuitive video and photo operation via the switchgear. 7.Turn-by-turn navigation system — Another Triumph first comes with the introduction of an integrated turn-byturn navigation system powered by Google – their first premium motorcycle manufacturer partnership. The navigation system is facilitated through an accessory fitted Bluetooth connectivity module. Once the rider has selected the route on the Triumph app and set-off, the instruments present turn symbols on the screen using simple graphic icons. With this system, the rider has at their disposal a navigation system, a route planner, the final destination and points of interest such as hotels, petrol stations and restaurants. Both Scrambler 1200s come in a choice of two alternative premium twin-paint schemes: •Scrambler 1200 XC — Jet Black and Matt Black, Khaki Green and Brooklands Green •Scrambler 1200 XE — Fusion White and Brooklands Green, Cobalt Blue and Jet Black.

The revised schedule for the inaugural season of the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup can now be confirmed, with all the partners involved in the Cup working hard to ensure this new parallel path of racing gets back on track. The calendar will retain six races and MotoE™ will be back in business at a test in June at a circuit to be confirmed. The first race of the season will now take place at the HJC Helmets Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland in July, with the next two events set for the Red Bull Ring and Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli respectively, the latter of which will remain a double header. It won’t be the season finale, however, as the last round of the Cup will now take place at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, where there will be another two races to end the season in spectacular style. As previously stated, Jerez will not host MotoE™ as part of the Gran

The exact causes of the fire that destroyed the majority of the equipment for the Cup remain under investigation. The results, as well as any further updates, will be announced in due course. For now, save the date for the season opener at the German Grand Prix on the 7th of July. Revised Calendar.

What to Expect? GPX Demon 150 GR. GPX is a company from Thailand that was born in 2007, it is not exactly a household name in Malaysia but GPX is No 3 in Thailand and with Malaysia’s Bike Continent Sdn Bhd the official assembler and importer in Malaysia, they are planning to make an impact to the local market in a short time over here in Malaysia. The GPX brand already presence in Singapore, Cambodia, and the Philippines. End of 2018, GPX made its way onto Malaysian shores with the launch of two brand new bikes, Gentleman 200 and Demon 150 GR. And plans are underway for more models to come. The Demon 150 GR is GPX most recent offering in the country and its extremely interesting. 1st full faring kind of mini fun bikes which the Demon is categorise in. What you really get is a 1,835 mm long, 750 mm wide, and 1,050 mm tall motorcycle. It looks like a Panigale and nicknamed Minigale fit it appropriately and for the sake of comparison, its closest rival the Honda MSX125 is 1,755 mm long,
730 mm wide, and 1,000 mm tall. This might give you a little perspective about what you are looking at here. The seat though is 780 mm high off the ground and the wheelbase is 1,230 mm. But the wheels are 14inch in diameter and are shod with 120/70 tires at the front and 140/70 at the rear. For comparison the MSX125 has pretty much the same dimensions except for the seat which is much lower at 763 mm. It also has 12-inch wheels with thinner tires. While we can get over the small size of the bike, we simply cannot look past that styling. Every motorcycle manufacturer worth their salt, somewhat follows the Italians when to comes to design trends in the motorcycling industry. But this level of inspiration has never been seen before. It is as if the designers simply took the picture of a Panigale and then xeroxed it at half the size. The resemblance is uncanny. The shape of headlights, paint scheme, fully faired body, suspension components – all seems lifted straight
from the Ducati Panigale. And we must say that it has a kind of endearing quality to it. The level of equipment on this bike is almost beggar’s belief. Headlights, DRLs and tail lights, all get the full LED treatment. Upside down front forks from KYB, monoshock rear, disc brakes, fat Pirelli Diablo Scooter rubber, fully digital display, and clip-on handlebars – all for the price of RM 8,000 make this bike an insane deal. And that’s not all. The bike also gets a small lockable underseat storage area and a USB charging point. This level of equipment is hard to find on bikes with a similar price tag. But this not so tiny bike is first in its category with 14-inch wheels and clip-on handlebars gets an air cooled 150 cc engine. No fuel injection here only carburetted to keep the prices low. But this bike is good for a top speed of 120 km/h with a weight of 135 kgThis bike shows ambition. The seat is snug and the seating is as a race like on a mini bike. The fat tires also inspire a lot of confidence. For sure is that it is a good looking mini bike with racing bike riding stance and very good equipment level that is available for around RM 8,000. Closest rival happens to be around RM 3,000 less this Demon. This Minigale, is it worth your money and time? We are looking to get a Minigale for our Project bike and these are our findings of the spec →

CONCEPT RS 660 IS THE FIRST EVOLUTIONARY STEP IN A REVAMPING AIMED AT EXPANDING THE APRILIA RANGE UNDER THE SIGN OF SPORTINESS AND PERFORMANCE FOR FUN WITH CUTTING-EDGE AERODYNAMICS RESEARCH, PREMIUM TECHNICAL CONTENT, ADVANCED ELECTRONICS AND A NEW TWINCYLINDER ENGINE: RS 660 REDEFINES APRILIA VALUES FOR A NEW GENERATION OF RIDERS With the Concept RS 660, Aprilia researches a new concept of sportiness, defined by the ratio between exuberant but easy-to-manage engine performance, a frame and suspension par excellence and the light weight of the vehicle. The Concept RS 660 is a possible response to the demand of new generations for fun bikes that are capable of thrilling on the
road as well as on the occasional track day. The Concept RS 660 interprets the concept of sportiness in accordance with extremely modern canons, the consequence of in depth technological research and the extremes of aerodynamic solutions that are unrestricted by any regulations. The result is a product that is unique in its kind: a medium engine capacity twin-cylinder, attractive and accessible, that provides extremely high technological content, even higher than bikes in superior categories. Therefore, RS 660 is a possible option for young riders coming up from smaller engine sizes, looking for a high level sport bike that can provide thrills and fun on a day to day basis on the road and ready to support the rider on the track too.
The design: cutting-edge aerodynamics Aprilia Concept RS 660 stands out above all for its style, innovative and sophisticated, that stems from a series of aerodynamic studies. With a tendency born in the highest levels of racing, aerodynamics is currently under intense development in the motorcycle sector, so the Concept RS 660 is able to explore concepts such as aerodynamic load control. Out of the work done in the wind tunnel and from the resulting solutions, the shape of a bike was born where the lines are an absolute and direct consequence of the functions. The variable front section, the air flow direction and the variable downforce values transformed into opportunities for the Style Centre which created ultra modern
dynamic shapes. The concept offers a comfortable riding position, thanks to the large saddle located on the sleek tail fairing, footpegs that are not too high and a pair of semi-handlebars mounted on top of the upper steering yoke. The result is a saddlehandlebar-footpeg triangulation that is sporty yet comfortable, to the advantage of riding pleasure and comfort.
contributing to form a compact and stiff structure. The right arm of the swingarm has a curved shape in order to all the exhaust terminal to pass. The particular mounting of the shock absorber allows outstanding progression to be obtained without using linkage, thereby cutting down on weight and making it a cleaner package overall.
Aprilia chassis architecture, quality bar-setter Aprilia's know-how in packaging super fine chassis architectures is recognised the world over. In observance of this tradition, the Concept RS 660 Concept provides a magnificent structure made up of an aluminium frame and swingarm. In the concept, the frame exploits the engine as a stressed element,
The new parallel twincylinder for a new generation of bikes RS 660 was born around the concept of a new engine that Aprilia engineers are already working on, a 660 cc parallel twin-cylinder, a very compact new generation unit derived from the 1100 cc V4 that powers the Tuono V4 and RSV4 1100 Factory. This configuration was chosen
for its compact nature and efficiency, the extremely low level of heat transmitted to the rider and for the freedom that it leaves the designers to create a sleek and lightweight frame and suspension. The RS 660 project is the development base for a wider range that intends to make Aprilia a key player in an extremely strategic market segment in Europe, but also in Asia

PETRONAS SEPANG RACING TEAM PRINCIPAL: DATO’ RAZLAN RAZALI Dato’ Razlan Razali is no stranger to the world of motorsport. As a motorsport enthusiast, Dato’ Razlan dabbled with motorcycles when he was pursuing his studies in Australia. Channelling his passion for motorcycling further, he even participated in the Malaysian Super Series superbike races in 2001. However, a racing incident in 2005 curtailed his time on the track. But Dato’ Razlan couldn’t stay away for long, as he then started his own racing team – Pineapple Motor Sports – to participate in the Malaysian Super Series, which went on to win it three years in a row. Fast forward to October 2008, Dato’ Razlan
was appointed as Sepang International Circuit Chief Executive Officer. Just two weeks before the Malaysia Motorcycling Grand Prix that year, Dato’ Razlan pledged to put a Malaysian on the grid in the 2009 race as a wildcard. He not only successfully fulfilled the pledge but managed to put two Malaysian riders as wildcard entrants in the Moto3 class in 2009. Zulfahmi Khairuddin, former Malaysian Moto3 and Moto2 rider with multiple podium finishes, was one of the riders then. Dato’ Razlan and SIC moved a step forward in the world of Grand Prix with the creation of their own racing team – Sepang Racing Team in 2015 with the backing of the Board of Directors.
The team participated in the Moto3 class with Zulfahmi and Czech rider Jakub Kornfeil. The creation of the team was made possible when SIC took over the Air Asia team which participated in the Moto2 world championship a year earlier from Tan Sri Tony Fernandes. While still retaining Race Team Director Johan Stigefelt, the team achieved commendable results in its debut year in Moto3, finishing twice on the podium and several top10 finishes. SIC took another big step forward in 2018 when they put a team in the Moto2 class, again in collaboration with PETRONAS, and Zulfahmi as the rider. A true proponent in the development of →
PROFILE: DATO RAZLAN RAZALI
→ motorsports, Dato’ Razlan saw the creation of a team in the Moto2 class as crucial in creating a proper pathway for Malaysian riders to progress in the world of Grand Prix racing. Dato’ Razlan aims to support Malaysian participation in the world championship for as long SIC receives support from the Malaysian Government to host the Malaysian MotoGP. SIC’s Motorsport Development program ensures that Malaysia MotoGP remains relevant as one of the oldest World Championship sporting event in Malaysia, a platform to promote Malaysia globally, a gateway for tourism and vibrant economy and a catalyst for Malaysians to compete in the world championship at their home
grand prix in Sepang International Circuit. As SIC’s collaboration with PETRONAS extended into the MotoGP realm with the formation of PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing Team, the pathway for deserving Malaysians to move up the ranks into MotoGP has been laid out. Dato’ Razlan’s business and negotiation skill were put to test in the six months leading up to the creation of PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing Team, as it was in May that rumour regarding a MotoGP team in trouble. By June, PETRONAS – fuelled with the desire to develop Malaysian motorsports – had agreed to collaborate in the creation of the MotoGP team and everything else starts to
fall into place. With talents coming up from the SIC Talent Development Programme, SIC under Dato’ Razlan’s stewardship are probably the only entity in the world that can realise a young rider’s dream to MotoGP. At the Sepang Racing Team technical centre, the trainees are provided with all kinds of motorbikes and training tools for them to train. A professional fitness consultant has been engaged to look after their physical training and nutritional needs. Also, a comprehensive centralised training programme which requires the riders to train in blocks of two weeks at a time in →
→ Sepang before they are given a break to return home for the weekend is in place. In the spirit of talent development, SIC under the leadership of Dato’ Razlan has also played a key role in supporting the Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup (ATC), a feeder championship promoted by DORNA, the rightsholders of MotoGP, features Asia’s brightest young talents in motorcycle racing, which was founded in 2014. SIC works closely with the Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia to support young Malaysian talents to compete in the championship against talents from countries such as Japan, Thailand, Indonesia and Australia. The ATC is considered the best platform for young Malaysian talents to
compete at a high level and is the most important and proper development championship with real racing machines, professional technical support and credible partners. Outside the world of motorcycling Grand Prix, Dato’ Razlan is currently the acting CEO of the Malaysian Association of Motorsports, a post he has held since 2010. He began his career at Price Waterhouse Coopers Malaysia in corporate finance and recovery upon his completion of a degree in Bachelor of Business with an accounting major at Edith Cowan University, Perth Australia in 1994. His experience then led him to Bintai Kinden Corporation Berhad listed
in the KLSE as the Vice President of Business Development and subsequently appointed as an independent director from 1999 to 2010. He then became the Managing Director of Armah Properties Pte Ltd – a property investment company, before venturing into large scale event management via the establishment of Pineapple Concerts Sdn Bhd. He also held the post of Chairman of Panpages Berhad (formerly known as CBSA Berhad), listed in the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (KLSE). Dato’ Razlan’s business acumen was put to good use when he was able to turn around SIC’s financial standing – from making losses when he first took over, to churning out profit consistently in the following years. Under his guidance, SIC had implemented various cost-effective measures, introduced new initiatives, realigned and reintroduced product offerings and created new experiences for spectators at major events.

Meet Tracy, she is a sporty adventure bike and much improved from her past. So who is Tracy? Tracy is Yamaha’s new and improved Tracer 900 GT, her past model had some shortcoming of her handling, everyone says her suspension is too soft that makes her wobble at 190km/h! So the new Tracy GT is the all new improved and better than before. Powered by Yamaha’s Master of Torque 847cc crossplane triple, spot-on for Hoonigan performance and CP3 growl but muffle exhaust is so quite that you really much change to make sure your coming up when you open your throttle, standard is just too quiet. I will not elaborate too much on the CP3 engine. More to new stuff or enhancement you will get with Tracy 900 GT! Tracy GT now features a quickshifter, although it is upshifting only, but its butter smooth with no issues. Placed on the shift linkage is the mechanism to signal the ECU to cut the ignition and allow selection of the next gear without the clutch. As refined as the Tracer 900 GT is, the quickshifter itself looks like an afterthought. Yamaha should just have it together downshifting too. Tracy also gets a new throttle body, to allow for the addition of cruise control. Controlled by an easy-to-use switch gear on the left, the cruise control fuelling while activated is silky smooth. The system functions between 50km/h to 160km/h in fourth, fifth, and sixth gear. I actually tried once, the cruise control. Tracy also has heated grip! For Asian countries I may just disconnect it!
And there is a new TFT full-color meter, now is the trend for the meter, the high-contrast display relays info such as speed, rpm, and fuel level along with a gear position indicator and trip data. Ambient air temperature is also relayed, and I can say it works perfectly up to 105 degrees Fahrenheit. Adjustment of the ride modes, traction control, and the heated grips all go through the display as well. A mouse like wheel on right grip controls the heated grip setting and can be used to scroll through trip data functions.
A new 41mm KYB upside-down fork features compression, rebound, and preload adjustment and are well sprung for intended duties replace the soft and bouncy suspension on the standard Tracer and the rear shock is adjustable for rebound and preload; compression is what it is. The stock setting is spot-on and never had to adjustment the suspension , easy to knee down anytime like the 09 I have. Handling is light and nimble as usual but not flighty, thanks to a new swingarm that is 60mm longer.

This adds an extra dash of straight-line stability and no light wobble when over 200km/h. Ground clearance is more than adequate for blasting through corners though the long peg feelers do touch down early, apparently with plenty of margin before the sport-touringrequired centerstand grinds. My Sunday ride, I scratching the feelers abit so I should have taken it out before my Sunday ride but I was too lazy to do any modification or dismantling of the usual side mirror and replacing with my Rizoma or other nicer side mirrors. I just ride Tracy in super stocking standard. Rider comfort was a priority with the redesign of the Tracer, new comfort seats and a tank pad to help safe some squash man hood in hard braking if ever in that situation.
The refined Tracy (Tracer 900 GT) is priced at RM58,888 for a super value sport-tourer. Im down on my knees to propose to my bosses to match make me with Tracy on a long term! Boss next bike please get a Tracer 900 GT for your touring needs!

IMotoGP, n the cutting-edge world of coverage of technical developments tends to focus on game-changing technologies relating to the chassis or powertrain. However, less glamorous components are also subject to constant evolution, including the humble chain. So the difference between a Pramac Ducati chain from one found on a road use bike is the thinness of the O-Rings and the mileage. A MotoGP chain can cost 12x more and only use for a race weekend. But at Regina Chain, what is developed on the race tracks, will be transferred to its road chains..
Tuniversally he ‘Roller ’ chains have been the favoured means of transmitting drive on motorcycles for many years and the chain is the most practical means of transferring the drive. With the advantage of being lightweight, easy to pack and the ability to withstand the power levels produced by the most powerful bike engines. Chains used in motorcycle applications consists of a series of short cylindrical rollers held together by side links. There are two types of link alternating in the roller chain, inner links, and outer links. The inner links have two inner plates held together by two sleeves or bushings upon which rotate two rollers, while the outer links consist of two outer plates held together by pins passing through the bushings of the inner links. Despite appearing to be a very simple mechanism, the latest generation of racing chains has seen each of these parts optimized to the degree to ensure they provide the greatest possible strength for minimum weight. To put these improvements into perspective, a 1970s vintage GP racer produced in the region of 130 hp and would generally use a 530-size chain weighing about 1.24013662 kg/m Modern MotoGP racers produce more than 200 hp but run a 520-size chain that weighs only 1.14092569 kg/m. The chains have also become more mechanically efficient, sapping less power through frictional losses. A motorcycle chain has around 1500 part, all precisely fitted together. Precision is the key.
While much of this improvement has been
down to the gradual development of parts such as the bushing materials, there have been a few key advances in recent years. One such advance is in the sealing mechanism used between the inner and outer links. Before riveting in the factory, the internal parts of the chain are filled with chain grease by vacuum. The sealing rings then have two purposes – to keep the internal lubrication in, and the dirt out, thus vastly improving the durability of the chain. The load-bearing pins and bushings that enable a chain to bend over a sprocket have precious little oil to keep them happy. As if that wasn’t enough, high centrifugal forces that occur when the chain turns around the drive sprocket throws the oil out. The single biggest factor in chain wear is loss of lubricant, and the advent of Oring sealed chains enabled the chain to keep its oil inside and stay lubricated where it counts.

PETRONAS Yamaha SRT make point-scoring MotoGP debut The MotoGP World Championship fired up under the floodlights of Qatar, where the dream of the PETRONAS Yamaha SRT came true. Morbidelli picked up the team’s first points in eleventh place, with Quartararo sixteenth after an inspiring fightback. The Losail International Circuit tonight played host to the historic debut of a Malaysian team in the MotoGP World Championship, as the PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing Team picked up points at the first attempt. Franco Morbidelli finished in eleventh place after fighting throughout for a top ten position, whilst his teammate Fabio
Quartararo recovered from a mistake on the grid that saw him forced to start from pit-lane, making an impressive MotoGP debut despite narrowly missing out on the top fifteen. Morbidelli started from the third row and lost some positions in the opening exchanges, dropping back to 13th before fighting back into the top ten and lapping as high as eighth. The Italian spent a long time with the lead group before eventually losing touch, crossing the line in eleventh place to score five championship points. Quartararo, who had qualified fifth on the grid, was sent to start from pitlane after stalling his bike on the grid before the warm-up lap. Despite that setback, the French
youngster put together an impressive fightback, setting the fastest lap of the race on lap three with a time of 1’55.039. Fabio continued the charge from last position through to sixteenth, narrowly missing out on a first MotoGP point. Today’s result leaves Morbidelli in eleventh place in the championship, with Quartararo aiming for his first points when the MotoGP season continues with round two on the 31st March in Argentina.

Italian beats Marquez to the line as Crutchlow grabs a podium, Rins and Rossi within 0.6 of the win in a crazy opening race of 2019. Andrea Dovizioso (Mission Winnow Ducati) took an incredible victory at the VisitQatar Grand Prix after an epic desert duel between five riders in the latter stages ends with the Italian beating Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) by 0.023, with Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda Castrol) beating Alex Rins (Team Suzuki Ecstar) and Valentino Rossi (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) to P3 - the top five split by just 0.6 seconds. There was drama before the lights went Losail as fifth place qualifier Fabio Quartararo (Petronas Yamaha STR) stalled his bike as they pulled off for the warm up lap, the rookie having to start from pitlane.

A carbon copy or you might say déjà vu of 12 months ago then played out at the final corner, with Marquez diving through, sitting up Dovi, running wide, with the latter being able to get the drive and power past the Honda on the exit to edge the number 93 to the line by 0.023 seconds. Behind, Crutchlow kept his cool to take a remarkable podium on his first race back since his huge Australian GP crash, with Rins a valiant P4 and Rossi again proving you should never count ‘The Doctor’ out in P5 from P14 on the grid.

It was one of his biggest ever dry weather victories with 9.8s gap between him and Valentino Rossi for fight for second with Dovizioso did not even show just what a difference there was between the World Champion and the rest. #MM93 took the gamble on the soft rear tyre on the Repsol Honda but his domination over the 25 laps meant he was quite simply in a class of his own.
Valentino Rossi said he was riding "like when I was young" in MotoGP's Argentina race, in which he stole second place from Ducati's Andrea Dovizioso on the last lap.
ANDREA DOVIZIOSO
Marc Marquez rapidly pulling away right from the 1st lap to take a dominant 9.8 second win, Desmo Dovi and the Doctor Rossi were left fighting for second at the Termas de Rio Hondo circuit.
Dovi spent the most time holding the position, but he was never able to shake off Rossi, and then Rossi made his move on the last lap at Turn 7, to which Dovizioso couldn't respond to, and the Yamaha man secured his first podium since last year's Sachsenring race in July. Whle Rossi and Dovi was tussling for podium placing, last lap battle saw Maverick Vinales and Franco Morbidelli came to a blow while in 4-5 placing and Morbidelli touch Vinales and both went crashed out. A big blow for Yamaha. But Rookie Fabio Quartatararo came home in P8 to become the top placing rookie! The next race will take place at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, from April 1214th.

FABIO QUARTARARO PETRONAS Yamaha SRT rider claims first points of the season, finishing eighth. Franco Morbidelli suffers an unfortunate crash on the final lap, when fighting for sixth place. The PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing Team experienced mixed fortunes at the Argentina GP on Sunday, as Fabio Quartararo claimed his first points in the MotoGP category whilst Franco Morbidelli crashed out on the final lap. After a difficult debut in Qatar last time out, Quartararo enjoyed a solid race at Termas de Rio Hondo Circuit, finishing in eighth place and earning his first points of the year. The Frenchman was very consistent with his lap times in his second race in the class and spent practically the entirety of the contest in tenth place. Late crashes for his teammate and for another rider would move him up into eighth at the chequered flag. Morbidelli's unfortunate crash came at Turn 7 during the last lap of the race, when he was in eighth position and challenging for the Top 6. The Italian was enjoying an excellent race one of his best performances in MotoGP and had been in the podium spots during the initial stages.

i-Moto ALPINESTARS TECH-AIR STREET SYSTEM Airbag technology for riders is nothing new – Honda fitted its Goldwing with an airbag in 2007 –but it seems it’s finally started to gather momentum and filter down to riders gear. Airbag leather suits are a familiar site on our TV screens with stars from MotoGP and road racing now wearing airbag suits – Marc Marquez, Dani Pedrosa, Jorge Lorenzo, Cal Crutchlow and Scott Redding can be seen putting the Alpinestars Tech Air suit through its paces while Valentino Rossi, Stefan Bradl, Pol Espargaro and Guy Martin all sport Dainese’s D-Air Racing System. The giveaway is the electronic monitoring LEDs flashing away on the left forearm and shoulder respectively. And they seem to work too. Dainese claim that none of the 306 crashes by riders wearing the D-Air Racing System between 2007 and 2013 resulted in fractures to the collarbone and shoulder joint areas, which is remarkable when you consider the forces generated in such high speed spills. When Ducati released its D-Air System which links a jacket fitted with an airbag to an on-board computer and BMW and Dainese collaborated to put the D-Air Protect System into the DoubleR RaceAir leather suit. However, as good as these systems are, they are both designed for specific brand motorbikes. The new Alpinestars Tech-Air Street System is the first system that has been designed for road use that can be used with any motorbike. It’s a compact, self-contained airbag vest designed to snap/zip into two specific jackets – the Valparaiso touring jacket and Viper road jacket. It features a high pressure inflatable bladder built into the vest’s shoulders to provide all- over upper body protection by covering the full back, shoulders, kidneys and chest. Other than charging the battery, no set-up or service is required unless the bag is activated. The on-board software features an algorithm designed specifically to predict an impending impact. The system will detect an impact within 30-60 milliseconds of contact and maximum inflation for the airbag takes just 25 milliseconds, and that pressure is maintained for five seconds. The system is powered by anI integrated rechargeable battery, which is fed by a micro USB port. A one- hour charge gives four hours of operation, while a six-hour charge offers 25 hours of use. The system is automatically armed once the jacket is zipped up, with an LED display on the left sleeve showing the amount of charge in the battery. And yes, it will even work in the rain. This isn’t cheap any stretch of the imagination but what price safety? And the price will come down once more manufacturers embrace the technology.
