i-Moto KMSB Kawasaki together with Kawasaki is makings an entry into the retro category with the all-new Z900RS. Conceived as a homage to the legendary Z1, it is powered by a liquid-cooled 900cc-class InLine Four – an engine choice that makes the Z900RS unique in this category. The newest Z is a synthesis of the traditional and the modern. An engine with a traditional In-Line Four configuration is backed by Kawasaki’s latest rider support technology, the engine and frame design both benefit from the latest in advanced analysis technology, and carefully crafted styling elements are complemented by hightech features like LED lighting and digital instrumentation. Great efforts were taken to achieve the Z900RS’ look and feel, with each component meticulously selected and every setting carefully considered. A synchronous ride feel combines the smooth response of an In-Line Four tuned for low-mid range torque, a deep rumbling exhaust note crafted to deliver additional rider enjoyment, and neutral handling that enables both leisurely and sporty riding. This is complemented by timeless looks that blend Z1-inspired styling with modern technology and craftsmanship techniques, and an attention to detail and high level of fit-and-finish to rival that of the Z1 itself. For riders searching for a bike with character and a rich history, the Z900RS – also available in a variation with a cafe racer image – offers both in abundance, while providing an opportunity to slow down, look around and enjoy the ride.
Thanks to its smooth In-Line Four tuned for strong low-mid range torque, and unhurried handling care of its lightweight trellis frame, the ride feel of the Z900RS is unique in the retro category. Both engine and chassis response were carefully designed to not be too quick, making it easier to feel at one with the bike. The resultant stress-free riding is complemented by a crafted exhaust note that enriches the riding experience from the time the rider thumbs the ignition – features that will enable riders to enjoy their machine for many long years. The Z900RS’ refined character is reminiscent of the legendary Kawasaki bikes of yesteryear: it is happy to run at a leisurely pace, but is more than capable of accommodating more spirited riding should the mood arise.
i-Moto While Kawasaki engines are historically renowned for their greatsounding exhausts, this the first time that Kawasaki has conducted sound research to craft a model’s ideal exhaust note. Designed to elicit rider response, the sound tuning focused on the engine’s initial roar to life, idling and low-speed riding where the rider is best able to enjoy the exhaust’s deep rumble. * Kawasaki’s experience with sound tuning started with the 20142016 Z1000 and 2017 Z900. The know-how gained from those models was brought to bear when designing the Z900RS. However, where those two models had crafted intake howls, it was the sonorous exhaust note of Z900RS that was tuned.
Complementing a light overall weight (noticeable as soon as the bike is lifted off its side-stand), frame rigidity and chassis geometry tuning were selected to deliver light, natural handling. Like the engine, the chassis responds to rider input predictably, going where the rider wants it to without resistance. In keeping with its retro sport character, the Z900RS’ stance is less forward-leaning than the Z900.
Large-diameter inverted fork contributes to excellent ride comfort and sporty riding potential. Response is unhurried, offering reassuring handling in riding situations ranging from in-town to winding roads. The high-grade fork features compression and rebound damping adjustability, enabling precise settings to suit rider preference and riding style.
Unlike the twin rear shocks of the Z1, the Z900RS features Kawasaki’s Horizontal Back-Link rear suspension. This choice of modern suspension (also featured on Kawasaki’s supersport and Supernaked models) offers a higher level of sporty riding potential – something that Kawasaki engineers were not willing to sacrifice. Like the fork, the linked suspension delivers a balance of ride comfort and sporty performance.
300 mm front discs gripped by radial-mount calipers provide sure, strong stopping power. Radial-pump front brake master cylinder contributes to brake touch and control.
Whether navigating city streets or winding through the hills, the Z900RS’ relaxed riding position, more upright than that of the Z900, offers both comfort and control, accommodating both leisurely riding or running at a more spirited pace.
Contributing to rider reassurance, the Z900RS is equipped with advanced Kawasaki rider support technology. KTRC features two modes that cover a wide range of riding conditions, offering either enhanced sport riding performance or the peace of mind to negotiate slippery surfaces with confidence.
i-Moto
Race-inspired clutch technology offers both a much lighter feel at the lever, as well as a back-torque limiting function that helps prevent rear-wheel hop when downshifting.
i-Moto With a seamless blend of Z1-inspired styling elements and modern craftsmanship – from the iconic teardrop fuel tank to the innovative oval LED taillight – the Z900RS offers timeless good looks with an exquisite attention to detail and
superb fit-and-finish that results in a very high-quality appearance. Functional beauty was a priority, with a simple, yet refined design pursued. In contrast to the sharp, edgy design of the Z Supernaked models, the Z900RS uses rounded elements to emulate the retrostyle design of classic motorcycles.
i-Moto The centrepiece of the Z900RS’ design, the beautiful teardrop fuel tank is reminiscent of the Z1. The frame was completely redesigned to accommodate the tank’s ideal position and slim shape. Only after the fuel tank position was fixed were the seat length, tandem seat and tail cowl length all balanced for the optimal retro sport proportions.
With a naked bike, the engine is an important styling element, and with its simple, uncluttered design the engine adds to the Z900RS’ presence. Stylish engine fins built into the cylinder head create the image of an air-cooled engine, and are complemented by an engine design featuring many Z1 motifs. The engine cover design is reminiscent of traditional naked models. An insistence that all the engine covers be die-cast aluminium pieces adds to the high- quality appearance.
When designing the exhaust system over 20 variations were considered before arriving at the final design, one that emphasises the presence of the In-Line Four engine. Double-walled header pipes give the exhaust a more powerful appearance, while making it more difficult for the headers to become discoloured over time. A lack of connector pipes or exhaust devices ensures clean lines. A short megaphone silencer contributes to the Z900RS’ retro sport image. The header pipes, pre-chamber and silencer are all formed from high-quality stainless steel, and are treated to a buff finish.
i-Moto We rode the all new Kawasaki Z900RS at Putrajaya. Kawasaki Malaysia organised the Media Test Ride for the recently launched Z900RS. The super smooth Z900 engine and that is the only component used from the Z900. Other than that you’ll be amazed that the retro styled RS offer a different type of biking character and experience. With a shorter 1st gear and a longer 6th gear ratio, the 949cc liquid cooled 4 cylinder engine Back in 1973, Kawasaki introduced the Z1 900, a bold in-line four powered bike that would inspire an entire new generation of motorcycle design. Today, the Z1 900 spirit lives on in the all-new 2018 Z900RS. Combining timeless retro styling, high quality components and muscle power of the original Z1 with today’s cutting-edge technology and performance, the powerful yet friendly-to-ride Z900RS represents a modern re-invigoration of the icon that started it all. Riding both the standard and the special edition Z900RS at the Kawasaki Media Test from Putrajaya Lake Club to IOI Resort and back.

AP Honda Racing Thailand’s Muklada Sarapuech continues to make waves. The 2015 Asia Dream Cup Champion made history again in Round 1 of the 2018 Idemitsu FIM Asia Road Racing Championship at the Chang International Circuit in Thailand when she became the first female rider to win the Asia Production 250cc class. Muklada, who received two sanctions after Race 1, put in a clean and faultless performance in Race 2 as she weaved, dodged, feinted and parried against the rest of the boys. The AP Honda Thailand rider led the group across the start/finish line from Lap 2 to Lap 6. The pressure sent her off the track limits on Lap 7. But this time, Muklada was careful to rejoin without gaining any advantage. That single mistake had sent Muklada from third to eleventh. With only two laps to go, Muklada overtook three riders to reach P7 on the penultimate lap, and another five riders to take the win with 19’11.671s. Rafid Topan Sucipto crafted a great comeback by finishing second followed by Kanatat Jaiman in third. Peerapong Boonlert, the fastest rider in Race 2, ended the race in fourth. Race 1 winner Anupab Sarmoon crossed the finish line in fifth. As the season opener drew to a close, Anupab Sarmoon holds the championship lead with 36 points. Muklada is tied in second with Rafid Topan – each with 31 points apiece.
In Race 1 Yamaha Thailand Racing Team’s Anupab Sarmoon, came out tops in the first race of the season. The Asia Production 250cc class had always been notorious for its no-holds-barred dogfight at the sharp end of the grid. With 13 riders battling for P1 in a 10-lap melee to the finish line, the polesetter found himself fending off attacks at every corner from the likes of Muklada Sarapuech, newcomer Kritchaporn Kaewsonthi, Indonesia’s Rheza Danica Ahrens, and Andy Muhammad Fadly. With no particular rider dominating the 10-lap race, the notorious last corner at the Chang International Circuit became the deciding factor of the race. Anupab nimbly avoided a particularly aggressive move from Muklada Sarapuech who had earlier

i-Moto Mario Suryo Aji is officially the youngest rider to ever race in the Asia Production 250cc class, and the Astra Honda Racing Team rookie pulled off a stunner during the free practice sessions with the fastest time in the intermediary class – 1’53.106s and created a new circuit record in the process.
line. The Yamaha rider then neatly held his lines to the finish line to pick up his first win of the season with 19’14.601s. Muklada was second across the chequered flag followed by MarioSuryo Aji. However, Muklada’s actions from Turn 9 to Turn 10 had prompted an immediate investigation into the results. Consequently, race officials penalized the AP
Honda Thailand rider and she dropped five positions to P7. Muklada was further fined with a 3-point championship points deduction for unsporting behaviour. Mario was promoted to P2, followed by his team mate Rheza Danica Ahrens in third.
Wildcard rider Thitipong ‘Tingnote’ Warokorn ended a 3-year winning drought for the Kawasaki camp when he took Race 1 by storm. The last time a Kawasaki had won at the 4.554km Chang International Circuit, was Katsuaki Fujiwara who netted the first SuperSports 600cc win at the ARRC’s inaugural race in Buriram, Thailand. Thitipong, racing for the Core Kawasaki Racing Team, started the race from P6 but began breaking away when he took the lead on Lap 4, leaving Australian rider Anthony West and defending champion Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman scrambling for the remaining two spots on the podium. By Lap 14, Thitipong had stretched the lead to 3.9 seconds. As the chequered flag came down on Lap 18, Thitipong crossed the finish line in 29’59.235s. 4.274s behind the wildcard, Ant West pipped Azlan to second place. Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi finished fourth while Ahmad Yudhistira ended his race in fifth.

The Monster Yamaha Tech3 pair concluded the Buriram test in outstanding fashion today, as Johann Zarco topped the time sheets for the majority of the day, while Hafizh Syahrin showed a sensational achievement during his first ever MotoGP test. Johann Zarco performed in incredible form, smashed the lap record around midday with a best time of 1’29.867 and finished the three days at the Chang International Circuit as the
fastest Yamaha rider. In progressing run by run, Hafizh Syahrin was able to conclude his first premier class experience just 1.756 seconds off the top and even outperformed multiple World Champion Jorge Lorenzo.

With a masterful lap of 1:54.029 Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Johann Zarco dominated the MotoGP field on the last day of testing before the start of the 2018 season. The remarkable Frenchman took over the top spot with two hours to go, before he carried out a race simulation in order to be perfectly prepared for the first race, which takes place in two weeks’ time under the floodlights of the Losail International Circuit.
On the other side of the Tech3 garage, Hafizh Syahrin improved his pace aboard the Yamaha YZR-M1 considerably. The premier class rookie skimmed nearly 1.5 seconds from his best lap on day one to complete what is just his second MotoGP test only 0.141 behind the fastest newcomer of the category, with a fantastic accomplishment to reach the top 16 overall. Both, Zarco and Syahrin are eager to commence the season following highly promising signs during their respective preparations.

The final day of the last test of the pre-season dawned sunny and dry but quite windy in Qatar. Johann Zarco (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) leaves the #QatarTest as the fastest man on track, with the Frenchman just over a tenth over Jorge Lorenzo’s 10-year-old pole lap record to top the test with a 1:54.029. Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) shot back up into the higher echelons on Day 2 to get closest to the Frenchman as he was 0.247 further back – with Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) completing the top three as he was once again a constant presence to be reckoned with. Lorenzo’s record that Zarco was hunting down is a 1:53.927, set in 2008 when the now five-time World Champion debuted – a longstanding mark of pace at the venue to add some extra lustre to the Tech 3
rider’s laptime. Behind that show of outright pace from the Frenchman’s Yamaha, Rossi’s two and a half tenth deficit was nevertheless enough to put the Italian into P2 despite a crash earlier in the day – and Dovizioso was just 0.055 off his compatriot. In fourth, Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda Castrol) was the fastest Honda with a 1:54.457 – continuing his fantastic preseason form – after putting in 57 laps, which was the most of the top five. It was incredibly close between the Brit and the third Yamaha Maverick Viñales (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP), however, with the Spaniard – fastest in testing at the venue last season and the race winner – just 0.014 off after he made a late attack.
i-Moto The top five were the same as the combined times on Day 3, but the man who leaves the desert sixth overall set his best laptime on Day 2 – Andrea Iannone (Team Suzuki Ecstar). The Italian, whose 1:54.586 was the fastest lap on Friday, was sidelined on the third and final day of the third and final preseason test, suffering with illness. Slotting behind the ‘Maniac’ and his Day 2 assault, Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) was seventh overall as he guns for his seventh title – and by another tiny margin, with only 0.005 in it. The reigning Champion also showed impressive pace on a long run, and did the most laps of anyone as he racked up 75. He ended the day sandwiched between the Team Suzuki Ecstar machines, as Alex Rins took P8 and ended preseason on form and fully healthy ahead of his sophomore season. Two Ducatis locked out the top ten overall, with Danilo Petrucci (Alma Pramac Racing) just 0.009 off Rins ahead of him and 0.033 ahead of the Ducati Team machine of Jorge Lorenzo. Lorenzo, who went fastest in Sepang with the quickest ever lap, put in a 1:54.692 in Qatar for P10. Second Alma Pramac Racing rider Jack Miller, who headed out late with a soft tyre for a time attack, was P11 overall and another tiny margin made the difference – just 0.057. Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda Team), after a big crash on Day 1 and having been affected since by some pain in his left hand, did the least laps on Friday of anyone but put in 44 more on the final day,
ending the test in P12 overall after having topped the #ThaiTest. Franco Morbidelli (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) was the fastest rookie by the end of action in thirteenth, with the Italian-Brazilian leaping up the leaderboard to set a 1:55.132 and take back the honour of fastest rookie from Takaaki Nakagami (LCR Honda Indemitsu), who has largely been the man to watch in preseason. And the second quickest rookie was the newest kid on the block, Hafizh Syahrin (Monster Yamaha Tech 3), as the Malaysian – who debuted in Buriram as he steps in to replace Jonas Folger – took P16 and was only just over a tenth off Morbidelli. Nakagami was four tenths further back on Saturday, with fellow rookies Xavier Simeon (Reale Avintia Racing) and Tom Lüthi (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) another half second in arrears. Behind Morbidelli, Bradley Smith (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) was the fastest rider for Austrian factory KTM in P14, just over a second off Zarco at the top, with teammate Pol Espargaro still affected by injury. Espargaro did, however, get back on track on Day 3 after sitting it out on Friday, and the Spaniard was three tenths off his teammate. The man completing the top fifteen was Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing Team Gresini), after an early foray much further up the timesheets. The elder Espargaro brother did a 1:55.232 on the last day, with the Noale factory having four 2018 RSGPs in Qatar for the first time ahead of the first race of the year.

Thomas Luthi Franco Morbidelli
The FIM, grand prix motorcycling's governing body, has issued a 24-bike entry list for the 2018 MotoGP season. The entry list does not confirm any new riders, with all 24 seats having been already filled, but it does clarify the rider numbers and official entrant names that will be used next year.
Xavier Simeon Five rookies - Xavier Simeon, Thomas Luthi, Franco Morbidelli, Takaaki Nakagami and Hafizh Syahrin arrive in the premier class, forming MotoGP's largest newcomer group since the 2015 season. The grid size increase from this year comes courtesy of an extra bike for the LCR squad, which for the last two seasons has run a sole Honda for Cal Crutchlow but has now added Nakagami to its line-up.
Takaaki Nakagami
Nakagami and Crutchlow will ride with title sponsorship from Idemitsu and Castrol and respectively. While Luthi, Morbidelli and Nakagami will all use their rider numbers from Moto2, Simeon will use #10, as his usual #19 is already in use by Aspar rider Alvaro Bautista. Of this year's grid, Avintia Ducati pair Loris Baz and Hector Barbera and Aprilia's Sam Lowes are absent from the 2018 entry list. Barbera and Lowes will both step down to Moto2, with the Pons and Interwetten squads respectively, while Baz returns to the World Superbike championship after signing a deal with Althea BMW. A total of 11 nationalities are represented on the 2018 grid, an increase of four from this year.
