KTM Malaysia introduced the highly anticipated KTM 790 DUKE “THE SCALPEL”. The KTM 790 is set to compete in the premium sub-800cc middleweightmarket. More than four years with 18 different concepts in R&D, the KTM 790 DUKE nicknamed “The Scalpel” is ready to dominate. Engineered to be devastatingly accurate, it combines the agility of a single and the energetic punch of a twin, it is set to carve the streets and track. Featuring the new and potent 799cc LC8c parallel-Twin engine, embraced by one of the lightest frames in the industry, the KTM 790 is nothing else but about being fast everywhere, especially when the road goes less than straight. The delivery of the 105 hp (78 kW) and 87 Nm power and torque is efficiently controlled by advanced electronics and next-generation rider aids, making it READY TO RACE away from the pack. Wrapped in a hunkered down aggressive stance, the KTM 790 DUKE is intimidating to those who dare challenge its supremacy. There is no doubt of familial resemblance in its styling clues lifted from the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R – the obvious feature being the unique LED headlight cluster and the flanks of the fuel tank.

With its crisp lines avoiding unnecessary design elements, the series production KTM 790 DUKE hits the streets retaining that clean look of a pure riding machine reduced to its bare essentials. This has been achieved by sticking to a main tenet of which entails combining multiple functions into a single part wherever it makes sense, to reduce the number of components required.

F ir s t CYLINDER HEAD Inside the 8-valve DOHC cylinder head are two chain-driven camshafts and one sparkplug per cylinder. The camshafts are CONCEPT The KTM 790 DUKE “SCALPEL is built upon the same READY TO RACE DNA which spawns all of KTMs motorcycle, yet it is also practical and comfortable for the daily urban commute. KTM aimed for a motorcycle that is light, agile and powerful to conquer every situation the rider will encounter, and this includes both the mean streets of downtown to the surrounding hills and mountains to the racetrack. Designing a motorcycle that is good in every environment is a monumental undertaking and KTM has managed to pull it off. ENGINE
BALANCER SHAFTS
At the core of the new KTM 790 DUKE is the all-new LC8c 799cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC, 8- valve, parallelTwin, a first for KTM. We chose this format to achieve compactness, hence less weight and better weight distribution, enabling the 790 DUKE to maximize its accuracy. The crankshaft is spaced at 285o to provide the firing order of a 75o V-Twin. Built for torque the engine delivers 87 Nm at 8000 rpm, followed by a roaring 105 hp finale. Meanwhile, the advanced ride-by-wire system guarantees refinement as well as low fuel consumption and emission figures.
Parallel-Twins are characterized by strong primary and secondary vibrations, hence the LC8c engine employs two balancer shafts: One in front of the crankshaft and another in the cylinder head between the two camshafts. Result? A smooth ride.
pressed together, making them lighter than forged one-piece camshafts. The steel valves are opened by DLC (Diamond-Like Coating) coated finger followers, while the camchain tension is governed by a hydraulic chain tensioner.
CYLINDERS
QUICKSHIFTER+
The coated aluminium cylinders are an integral part of the sleeveless engine casing. The open-deck cylinder construction allows for optimal cooling as more coolant is able to make contact with a bigger surface area of the uppercylinders.
The Quickshifter+ is standard on the KTM 790 DUKE, allowing slick, clutchless up- and downshifts under any load. It reads and responds to your riding so the shift action is fast when you are, but also buttery smooth at half-throttle. When downshifting, the system matches the engine speed to the lower gear. It can also be turned off if you feel old school.
PISTONS Lightweight forged pistons attached with plain conrod bearings and DLC-coated piston pins. Lightweight pistons mean lower reciprocating weight, reducing rotating masses and vibration, while maximizing the quick-revving nature of the engine. CRANKCASE A first for KTM, the horizontally split crankcases are aluminium high pressure cast. This allos for reduced wall thickness, hence less weight.
MOTOR SLIP REGULATION (MSR) Motor Slip Regulation (MSR) is also a standard feature on the 790 DUKE. MSR is an engine brake control. If, due to shifting down or abrupt off-throttle, the engine drag torque is too high, the system balances the throttle exactly as much as is needed to ensure controlled deceleration. MSR complements the slipper clutch is especially useful in low-grip situations.

Boon Siew Honda had organised a media get together with local media friends, this is the third time Boon Siew Honda organised this event at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) for the passionate media biker and to have exclusive test ride session on the newly launched naked model CB1000R, CB250R, X-ADV & Africa Twin. Present at the launch and test ride event is Boon Siew Honda Sdn Bhd. new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Keiichi Yasuda.
CB1000R The 2018 CB1000R’s styling takes a bold – and distinct – new direction that deliberately marks it out of the Naked bike mainstream. Every aesthetic detail of the CB1000R has been finessed, and the overall design, its style and powerful stance, merge retro minimalism with the elevated performance package of the engine and chassis. All lighting is LED and the thin round headlight employs a horseshoe-shaped light ring as well as distinctive two-bar light signature. The rear light is also a semicircular light bar that fills in solid when the brakes are applied. The T-
shaped instrument panel – finished in the same metaltone paint as the headlight rim – integrates into the top yoke, minimising bulk and the ignition switch is positioned at the front of the fuel tank. It comes with 998cc DOHC four-cylinder engine delivers peak power of 107kW @ 7,500rpm with maximum torque of 104N.m @ 8,250 rpm. Bore and stroke remain 75mm x 56.5mm but compression ratio is up 0.4 to 11.6:1. The adjustable front fork is a Showa Separate Function Fr Fork Big Piston unit (SFF-BP). It contains all the damping function in one leg, reducing weight, while delivering compliance, comfort and control across a broad range of riding conditions. The Showa rear shock adjusts for spring preload, compression and rebound damping. Up front dual radial-mount four-piston front calipers bite 310mm floating discs, matched to a twin-piston caliper and 256mm rear, and 2-channel ABS. The front tyre remains a 120/70 ZR17 and 190/55 ZR17 for rear tyre. The CB1000R is available in two colors, Graphite Black and Candy Chromosphere Red and priced at RM74,999 without roadtax and insurance

CB250R CB250R is part of a new ‘sport naked’ family – which includes the CB1000R. It distills all of the excitement of two wheels into a distinctively-styled, lightweight form. The CB250R tips the scales at just 145kg weight gains Honda’s new lightweight star a performance advantage. And mix in a free-revving 250cc liquid-cooled single cylinder engine, DOHC plus a unique new style and presence, and the CB250R’s intention to excite and inspire young riders is
clear to see. Peak power of 20.3kW arrives @ 9,000rpm, with peak torque of 23.3Nm delivered @ 8,000rpm. Valuable features more usually found on much larger machines such as the tapered rubber-mounted steel handlebar, LCD instrument display and full LED lighting, exude quality and add to the pride of ownership. CB250R is available in three colors, Matt Bullet Silver, Graphite Black and Candy Chromosphere Red. CB250R are priced at RM22,999 without road tax and insurance.

What is Honda X-ADV, a scooter or adventure bike? Honda builds weird but really cool bikes from time to time! No, we don’t know what Honda’s X-ADV is either. At first glance it’s an off-road adventure scooter. Except it isn’t a scooter (because the engine is at the front with a conventional chain driven transmission) or an adventure bike (because your feet are in the wrong place for any kind of off-road control) or anything like we’ve seen before. We tested the latest version with Honda’s Dual-Clutch-Transmission (DCT) is superb. Ran it in manual rather the automatic modes at Sepang Circuit. Without needing the clutch feels
weird but we really got use to the DCT after 1 lap. It’s a great system that Honda developed to ease the ride in the city and even long distance rides some what new technology than the standard traction control, anti-wheelie or electronic suspension modes. Top speed can hit over 200km/h which excellent.
With the weighs of 238kg, putting the X-ADV on its double stand does take a lot of effort for a small size rider like us, But the X-ADV is brilliant overall. If a Big Wing Dealer has a demonstrator and we recommend you to try it. We doubt you’ll be disappointed.

•Do : Get plenty of sleep the night before. Arrive in plenty of time and What are Track Days All About? Track Days are the most exciting, fun and effective way to improve your riding skills…period! You will learn how to corner and brake with a lot more confidence and control. And you will have a freakin’ BLAST. Track Days are held on a closed course (racetrack), which means you learn in a safe environment and at real-world speeds. Learning on a racetrack allows you to ride freely and concentrate on and advancing your skill level without the typical hazards faced on the street…potholes, sand, tar snakes and cars.
pace yourself. Track days can be extremely tiring both mentally and physically, especially if you have a long drive to and from the track. Once the adrenaline wears off it would be pretty common to find yourself feeling exhausted
•Do : some basic checks on your bike. Are all the fluids topped up? Do you have plenty of meat left on your brake pads? Is anything loose or likely to fall off? Is there likely to be enough tread on your tyres after the track day to drive home legally? Checking these few simple things out a week or so in advance of the track day could mean the difference between having a great fun day on track and going home early with a broken bike because you forgot to do something simple like check it had any oil in it! (yes we’ve seen it happen)
•Do : Bring the right attitude. Track days are all about like minded people having fun, riding their bike hard in a safe environment on a race track. Respect the other riders and their bikes when out on track with you.
•Do : a warm up lap. When you first head out on track your tyres, brakes, engine and gearbox will all be relatively cold. We see a surprising amount of people tearing off down the pitlane on their first session, bouncing off the rev limiter and quite often ending up in the gravel trap at the first corner. Don’t be that guy! Take it easy coming out of the the pitlane, take it easy round the first few corners and build your speed up gradually over the course of a lap or two. This will allow everything to warm up nicely and will help you get a feel for what the grip levels are in a more controlled manner.

So, for the love of all that is holy, before your first track day, please, please do your research. Don’t be be a lunatic trackday goer. And don’t let hubris get the better of you.
track day is no fun at all, you’ll feel terrible and probably won’t enjoy your day, plus it’s dangerous. Also don’t go nuts on the energy drinks, once the adrenaline starts flowing you’ll be pretty pumped up as it is and too much can have an adverse effect on your riding.
•Don’t : Forget to tighten your wheel nuts – preferably with a torque •Don’t : Be afraid to ask for help! Get some tuition. If you’ve never ridden on track before, a quick session with an instructor or another experienced track day goer can be invaluable. It will make you go faster, be safer and be a better rider. Similarly if you need help with your bike, don’t be afraid to ask. Chances are you’ll find the paddock at a track day is full of experienced and knowledgeable individuals. Most will be happy to give you a dig out if your stuck.
•Dont: Race. Track days are not the place for racing. A lot of people bring their daily ridden bike and their pride and joy to track days and a genuine concern for a lot of people is that their bike will get damaged by someone else who thinks they’re taking part in a round of the MotoGP or WorldSBK Championship.

Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team RC213V) increased his World Championship lead with an astonishing victory in the most epic Dutch MotoGP round, which will live on in memory as one of the greatest premier-class encounters in the history of the sport. The 25-year-old
reigning World Champion spent much of the 26 laps in a breath-takingly close dogfight that had half a dozen riders in the hunt for victory. At the end of the race the top 15 finishers were separated by just 16 seconds, an all-time record in motorcycle Grand Prix racing’s 70th season. Marquez started from pole position, but the battle was so intense that the lead changed most laps and sometimes several times a lap. At half-distance the Spaniard found himself down in fourth place, albeit less than four tenths of a second behind the leader. However, he kept his cool and made his plan for the later stages, when he was able to escape from the pack and ride a series of mesmerising laps that put him more than two seconds ahead of Alex Rins and Maverick Vinales, who finished second and third to complete an all-Spanish podium.

aggressive moves culminating in a pass on Marquez at Turn 4 for second.
Sky Racing Team VR46 rider Francesco Bagnaia eased to his fourth Moto2 win of the 2018 season to extend his championship lead. Bagnaia led from pole position and immediately began to build a gap to the chasing field, working up a 2.5s advantage over Pons racer Lorenzo Baldassarri who came up from 13th on the grid.
Baldassarri had just started nibbling into Bagnaia’s lead, bringing it down to 1.5s, when he picked up a rear puncture and was forced to pit. That promoted Catalan winner Fabio Quartararo (Speed Up) to second from 10th on the grid, after he'd picked up a three-place grid penalty for not immediately entering the pit lane during a red flag period in qualifying. Intact GP’s Marcel Schrotter held that second spot in the early stages from the front row of the grid, but he let Marc VDS rider Alex Marquez through when he went deep into the Timmer chicane. In the closing stages Quartararo was charging through the field, coming through with a series of
Marquez completed the podium ahead of Schrotter, with reigning Moto3 champion Joan Mir fifth from ninth on the grid. Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Miguel Oliviera was sixth from 17th on the grid to sit 16 points adrift of Bagnaia in the championship. His KTM teammate Brad Binder was seventh ahead of Sky Racing’s Luca Marini, who had scored his first front row start in Grand Prix racing. Former Aprilia MotoGP rider Sam Lowes was ninth for the CGBM Evolution squad, with Andrea Locatelli converting his first top-10 Moto2 qualifying performance into a 10th-place finish for Italtrans. Speed Up racer Danny Kent retired from the race after a crash at the start of the race. I had a good start, but the entry to the first corner was too tight and I didn’t pick the best line into it. Many riders passed me from the outside, so I tried to keep the pace and felt good. But suddenly after lap 10 I felt that my front tyre was dropping, I couldn’t brake really hard anymore and was not able to keep the good pace, which was maybe down to my tyre choice. In the end I can only try to learn from this. We know that we could fight for the points and something better than this position. I try to work hard and want to improve with this experience.”

23-year-old Jeffrey Herlings continues to do things nobody expected. After breaking his collarbone a month ago, it was expected he would limp through the two rounds in Indonesia and head to Loket in the Czech Republic without the red plate. Instead he went 2-1-1-1 and extended his lead over Antonio Cairoli to 24 points. The tough Dutchman was as surprised as anyone to take two more Grand Prix victories, and make it 77 GP wins in his career, but no doubt his mental approach and determined mentality got him home. Flying home to Holland on Sunday night there is no doubt the three time World MX2 champion was smiling ear to ear. “It is awesome” Herlings said. “I never expected to win, crashing before Ottobiano, and when I saw I had a bad crack and I had surgery and before Indonesia I couldn’t even lift my arm, I wasn’t sure if I could race, but I went home with 97 points and it’s a dream come true. We didn’t lose points but gained some. It wasn’t my normal speed or normal Jeffrey Herlings, but I hadn’t ridden for nearly a month. I am looking forward to Loket, it isn’t my favourite track, but it’s a nice atmosphere. I go to the doctor and see if my collarbone is okay and I didn’t bend the plate. I want to train again, and we have a Dutch race next weekend, but first I need to
S
see if the plate is okay. Going 1-1-1 for the Saturday and Sunday in Semarang last weekend, really boosted the Red Bull KTM Factory rider’s confidence and knowing he can handle his rivals even with a major injury must give him a lot of joy heading into Loket in 10 days’ time. “I don't think we could have dreamt of these results. We came to Indonesia totally unprepared but to go 2-1 last week and then even better today – with the Qualification Heat and both races – is absolutely awesome. We couldn't have wished for anything better. As I said, this is not the ‘normal’ Jeffrey Herlings yet but to leave Indonesia with two GP wins is a blessing. Red Bull KTM have done such an incredible job and I loved spending all this time with them. The team gave me a perfect bike and I would not be winning without them.” So now let’s see what Herlings can do around the rock-hard Loket circuit, a circuit he has enjoyed good results, but for sure not a circuit like Lommel (the following round), where he is expecting to win easily. As far as his toughness, it might take a rifle to stop the Dutchman from taking his fourth Motocross World Championship in 2018, because at the moment, he is seemingly unbeatable.
