GIVI LAUNCHED NEW MONOLOCK TOPBOX B32 “BOLD” G ivi gave us a chance to install and test our the new medium size Bold B32 monolock top box while riding the inaugural ‘Media

Appreciation Ride’ which flagged off from GIVI Point, Jalan Ipoh and ended at Thistle Hotel, Port Dickson, N.Sembilan. We honored to be the first batch to install the Bold B32, which just came out of the production line at Givi Asia’s Rawang factory. The trendy square design B32 top box has the new patented “Click Lock” system. The patented Monolock System is designed for topcases which are of small and medium sizes normally suitable for lower displacements motorcycles and mopeds, but we installed on a MT-09. B32 Bold uses Polypropylene (PP) as its’ main material as they are proven to be highly durable and strong especially in the Malaysian weather. ‘Clack’ key system is fitted to B32 Bold because of its’ ease of use. The advantage is that the users need not to have the key attached when closing the case. A small ‘click’ is all it needs. The handle is integrated into the top shell for the ease of opening/closing the topcase. At the same occasion, media were shown ‘The Red Explorer’, an elaborate double decker bus transformed into hospitality unit and mobile event product showcase at motorcycle events participated by GIVI such as Cub Prix and MotoGP. The external livery was painted with large GIVI logo and their worldwide tagline EXPLORE. ENJOY. B32 Bold will be available in the market starting early August” at RM222.60 including GST across over 300 Givi dealers nationwide.

otorcycles and scooters can be an

appealing, and even economical, alternative to a car for solo commuting, running errands, and more. For some, especially urban dwellers, a two-wheeler may be the only transportation they need.

City commuting scooters can be a lot of fun and provide a more engaging experience than driving a car and Yamaha NVX will definitely make your scooting experience an awesome one. Starting with the sporty looks, the NVX will defiantly be an eye catcher every time when you stop at the traffic light, then……….. zoom away with 155cc EEV, Blue Core Liquid cooled engine. NVX give the rider a natural seating position, rather than straddling an engine, and to not be bothered with shifting gears, the flat foot-rest floor and convenience of an automatic transmission defines the NVX and handling is excellent as well. We tested quite a number of scooter in which braking hard in emergency simply will screech the tyre. But the brakes for the NVX which has ABS at the front and drum brakes at the rear simply does the job of braking without screeching the tyres and able to stop even during an emergency braking. The standard 14” 110 front and 140 size rear IRC tyres are also quite grippy.

road test

Got a call at 5pm Friday evening from Hong Leong Yamaha, and the call was…. do you want to take the new NVX for review but got to collect it by 6pm! and….. I said no problem! 15 minutes later collected a black NVX from Sg Buloh, Yamaha Factory, while collecting the NVX, I had another call to collect banners for the weekend Malaysian Superbike Championship (MSBK) at Pandan Indah, if its was a car, I will reach there 2 hours later. Without a bag or anything, I put down the phone and dash to Pandan Indah. When I left Hong Leong Yamaha the time was 5.45pm, the lady on the phone said they close at 6pm. So…… dashing through the infamous Klang Valley Friday jam, it took me 19min to a shop I had never been, to collect the banner, and the 3, 5×5 feet banner was just fitted in the 10 liter compartment of the NVX under the seat. We seldom start the review about bikes when we just got it from the distributor but this NVX, I just had to start from the minute we got it. With a full tank petrol courtesy from Hong Leong Yamaha, I made the dash through dreaded Kepong traffic

then to Sri Damansara then to Penchala Link and to Federal Highway and exit to Sg Besi toward Pandan Indah, never had a moment with clear traffic. And astonishingly arrived 19 minutes later. To head back to my office still had to journey, but the NVX took the Friday jam like a piece of cake with vanilla icing. Normally with scooters, the other thing that we would do, is to get pillion to ride with us just to find out how comfortable to sit at the pillion seat, so I took a friend on the pillion later in the evening, good comments overall but only one thing we took note of, is the pillion foot peg is really high and the foot peg also keep flipping back to close position with the slightest touch. Normally we will ride any scooter with our foot on the pillion foot peg but not with NVX, so I ride with normal position like how everyone rides a scooter. Let move on to handling, the handling if you compare to other scooters in the market, the NVX wins hands down, even with the slim double suspension, taking a sharp corner, or a high speed 80-90km/h corner a Kuala Kelawang, you can be ->

road test

assured with the responsive and right throttle control the NVX gives the rider the confidence to tackle, the hardest and the sharps corner within the speed the NVX provide, (max 123/km) fastest corner speed 80-90km/h and it’s so stable considering bumpy roads under the standard IRC 14” tyre straight out of the factory. We even rode it in the wet during the test ride for about 10km on the twisty Kuala Kelawang stretch. Had the NVX for a couple of days but it was just commuting from home to office and to city. Just before we return the NVX, a fellow media, Hafiz from Careta.my, asked ask us to do the roadtest together to the famous Kuala Kelawang (KKiC) roads in Negeri Sembilan. So I packed my SLR camera, GoPro and Mavic drone fitted on a Givi softbag which fits in the 25L under seat compartment, and head out to meet him for the roadtest. I actually ridden NMAX there last year but this roadtest was a simply different feel with the NVX. The throttle and engine response simply was amazing, plus the handling was on par with any sportsbike or rather let’s compare with mopeds, throw it a Battlax or a Pirelli 14” and an exhaust plus an Ohlins rear suspension, you are ready to challenge anyone on any bigger cc! Other features you should note that is its Keyless, with fully digital blue LCD display, I already fell in love when I switch on the keyless knob during the launch at MotoGP last October. Besides the fresh, sporty design, the NVX comes with an electric socket and compartment for charging devices, and a 25L under-seat compartment which can fit a fullface helmet plus other gear, eliminating the need for an additional compartment box or carry a bag which I usually do. No rear disk brake on the NVX but actually its better even you hard squeeze the rear brake the rear tyre will not lock-up and with the front ABS front, I guess you will never experience a wheel lock-up anytime riding the NVX. There is a front handbrake at the rear brake lever, while the 155cc Blue Core fuel-injected engine feature a eco start stop at any traffic light which can be turn On or Off with a switch. Claimed 15hp @ 8000rpm and 14.4Nm @ 6000rpm is just great to zip pass anything in traffic without a worry. But the 4.6L fuel tank start blinking at 3.5L to

give you warning to refuel up but still able to give more than 20km mileage (but its always better to fuel up when it blinks). Its easy to be carried away and full throttle all the time! Making the Yamaha NVX one of the most eye catching and fun scooter to ride. Believe me just go to the nearest dealer and try to get a test ride on the NVX, I’m sure you will have a smile on your face when you are done with the test ride. I covered almost 500km with the few days, I had it on my garage and loved it, the more you ride the NVX the more you will love it! The NVX comes in three color schemes: Race Blu, Matt Red, and Black. The price of the NVX is RM10,500 including GST but without insurance and road tax. Tested: Yamaha NVX 155 Engine: Liquid-Cooled 155cc Single Automatic Power: 15hp at 8,000rpm Torque: 14.8Nm at 6,000rpm Wet weight (inc fuel and oil): 118kg Frame: Underbone Brakes: Front Disc (ABS) and Rear Drum Seat height: 791mm Fuel capacity: 4.6 litres Colours: Blue/Black/Matt Red Price: RM10,500 inclusive of GST

road test

Ride Quality & Brakes The NVX is very light and nimble, so perfect for nipping around town. With its telescopic front suspension, 14” 110/140 tyres and Front ABS discs brake, the Yamaha NVX handles far better than the average scooters in the market.

Build Quality & Reliability Sports scooters like these are going to be used and abused by their owners, so they need to be durable. The NVX ticks that box and is well finished, even the closing the seat has the premium quality there.

Running costs & value As cool as the NVX is, to fork out RM10,500 is a lot for a scooter, but once you ride NVX that price will soon diminish. I will rather save the money for the NVX than getting a cheaper scooter.

Engine Making a claimed 14.7bhp @ 8,000 rpm, the NVX is powered by a 155cc liquidcooled, Blue Core single-cylinder, fuelinjected, four stroke engine. It has an electric start and first keyless scooter and EEV gearbox. NVX can do 120km/h from the standard out of the dealerships, but there are kits available to unleash more power. If we own one, first thing we will install a slip-on or a full system exhaust as the NVX is too quiet. Actually is safer to be heard than go un-noticed, while zooming through the traffic.

Equipment It’s pretty futuristic and sporty is what you get in the NVX, great colours and graphics, under seat storage 25 liter, front ABS brakes, keyless start. electric power socket and 5.8” full LCD Digital speedometer.

ur longest ride so far on Yello Mello is to

Sepang International Circuit, a distance of 57.4km one way from Kelana Jaya to Sepang Circuit via Elite Highway was fun as passing cars and lorries all wave at me, when they saw Yello Mello on the highway. I rode on the emergency lane with average speed of 100km/h but still some trucks would pass me that gave me a little wobble but it was controllable. The SKYTEAM PBR110, will surely give you endless of thrills and stare from everyone with its cute and retro looks. This test is to prove that Yello Mello is able to go places like a normal size moped can go! Our “Project Yello Mello” gives us the opportunity to customize our 10” mini long termer. Special thanks to SKYTEAM Malaysia for providing us the PBR110 for this project. When you have a that unstoppable urge to ride, but not too fast and just for a short and now a longer ride, our “Project Mello Yello” will fit that bike that will make sure you’ll have fun getting the candy on the roads and highways! Riding the “Beast” will take some getting used to the character and with a little bit more experience than the average bike “Joe” to tame the “Beast”

AWESOME PERFORMANCE WHATEVERTHE ROAD

↑Elbow is not a problem for the Beast …. Just we didn’t have

track time, this photo is just done for fun from our design team!

ROAD|TEST

With the 1,301cc Liquid Cooled 75 degree V-Twin powerplant gives 177 horsepower on a 195kg naked bike gives the rider pure performance on and off the track. As KTM builds all its motorcycle with READY TO RACE in mind. The day before the Perlis ride we took the “Beast” to Genting and every corner the “Beast” took it like a piece of cake, we were scraping the kneesliders like no body’s business, I mean every corners all the way to Gotong Jaya. The tremendous handling of the WP suspension and the power-to-weight ratio ensures me the confidence to ride the twisty corner like I was Jeremy McWilliams taking every corner and any bumps on the road with full confidence even on Sport mode (I keep it on Sport mode all the time and TC off) only time I use rain mode once when I was on the way back from Penang that also when the highway was really… really wet!

Another thing I really love about the “Beast” is the new LED headlight design which looks like something from Star Wars movie General Grievous. The designer must be a real Star Wars fan! From the front to the tail the highly dynamic design is even more sophisticated, straightforward and sharper than that of its predecessor while being light and more agile. The sporty and low nose and the slim and high-tail created a compact silhouette, while the chrome-moly steel trellis frame and subframe gives the nimble and precise handling I want.

↑TFTCOLORDISPLAY A multicolor combination of relevant information, presented in a clear-cut, uncluttered way. As you rev the engine, the display bars change color, either spurring you on or telling you to back off when the engine’s still cold. The display also automatically adapts its illumination to the ambient light and gets racy when the optional track ride mode is selected.

↑ERGONOMICS

The 20 mm wider handlebar has been positioned 5 mm lower and 18,5 mm more to the front, so you’re READY TO RACE all the time. The ergonomics can also be adjusted in many ways to suit riders of any stature: » Handlebar: 22 mm adjustment range with four positions » Brake and gear shift lever: three positions for the gear shift & brake lever » Adjustable hand levers.

RIDEMODETECHNOLOGY Ride mode technology provides the rider with a choice of three ride modes on the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R, which can be selected quickly and simply with the menu switch on the handlebar. In conjunction with ride by wire, the selected ride mode influences the general responsiveness of the engine, its maximum peak power and MTC intervention. "Street" and "Sport" modes deliver a full 177 hp and appropriately potent power development with a sporty traction setting. By contrast, "Rain" mode limits the maximum output to 130 hp with smoother performance and early traction control intervention.

SINGLE-SIDED SWINGARM→ The jaw-droppingly beautiful, light alloy, single-sided swingarm on the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R is not only extremely lightweight, but also precisely manufactured and generously dimensioned – a potent partner when the SUPER DUKE R unleashes its torque and riding dynamics. The rear wheel is fitted to an axle 50 mm in diameter and bolted in place with a 60 mm central wheel nut. The design of the swing arm is adapted optimally to the tubular trellis frame in terms of flexural behaviour and stiffness. A highprecision, eccentric adjustment is used for tensioning the chain.

TELESCOPIC FORK → With its multiple setting options for spring rebound, compression and damping, the extremely torsion-resistant upside-down telescopic fork from WP Suspension provides you with a personalized suspension set-up. Not only can rebound and compression damping be set separately, but also completely independently from each other thanks to the 'split principle' (the left fork tube controls compression and the right one rebound damping). This allows riders to find their dream set-up with speed and precision – key words at KTM.

LC8

ENGINE

Fast just became faster. This engine, in its latest incarnation, pumps out an arm wrenching 177 hp while its torque figures reach for the sky between 6,750 rpm (140 Nm) and 7,000 rpm (141 Nm). So it’s stronger than ever, but we made it run smoother than ever as well thanks to overhauled resonator chambers. All in all, weighing in at around 62 kg, the extremely slim 4-valve unit is one of the lightest big twins in the world.

EXHAUSTSYSTEM The “Beast” new exhaust system is made entirely from rustproof stainless steel and is Euro 4 homologated. Hundreds of test bench runs and complex simulations ensured that the exhaust system, which uses a new exhaust flap, contributes decisively to the extremely smooth torque curve and excellent emission values of this powerful V-twin. And did we mention the sound? While it whispers at low revs, it will take your breath away reaching for the high notes.

BRAKES→ More than adequate deceleration is ensured at the front wheel on the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R by the two radially mounted Brembo M50 Monobloc four-piston fixed calipers with 320 mm twindisc brake with two floating discs and a radial hand pump. The spacing between hand brake lever and handlebar is adjustable so that the lever is within easy reach for every rider. The front brake receives effective support from the disc brake on the rear wheel, which features a 240 mm diameter disc and a twopiston Brembo caliper. The enormous potential of the Brembo brakes can be exploited to the full on the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R thanks to its sportily tuned and lean-angle sensitive antilock braking system.

TITANIUM INLETVALVES Another reason for the outstanding performance of the 1290 SUPER DUKE R 75° V-twin are the state-of-the-art, machined titanium inlet valves with chromium nitride PVD coating. Their flat design combined with the smaller combustion chamber now offer an increased compression ratio of 13,6:1. Interesting fact: The titanium valves only weigh 39 grams each, which is 19 grams less than the steel inlet valves we used before.

WHEELSAND TIRES The tailor-made Metzeler M7RR tires on the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R enter new technological territory. Derived from Metzeler’s experience in Road Racing activities, including the “Isle of Man TT”, they feature completely new profiles, structure materials, compounds and tread pattern. Even for wear, perfect steering behavior, grip in every situation and fantastic ride stability. The tubeless sport tires are fitted on extremely lightweight, light-alloy wheels manufactured in a lowpressure die casting process. Not only do the lightweight wheels make the bike lighter overall, they also minimize the unsprung masses and moment of inertia, with a positive impact on the handling and ride dynamics of the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R.

←PISTONS The forged piston structure on the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R, borrowed from Formula 1 technology, results in a high loading capacity, despite the extremely short and lightweight design. Reciprocating weight is minimized, thereby maximizing the revhappy nature of the engine. Furthermore, the piston skirts have a state-of-the-art, hard-anodized finish. Not only does this minimize friction, it is also extremely hardwearing.

CYLINDERHEADS →

Thanks to new resonator chambers on the cylinder heads, designed to polish the torque output in the lower to midrange rpms, the 1290 SUPER DUKE R power train runs smoother, consumes less fuel and cuts down on CO² emissions by about 10%.

BRAINPOWER MSCWITHCORNERINGABS Based on the state-of-the-art 9.1 MP modulator, the comprehensive Bosch MSC assistance package unites the talents of efficient braking and lightningquick, efficient pressure modulation with the high quality Brembo hardware to make the most advanced braking system on the market. No one brakes more progressively or safely, even at extreme lean angles. If required, not only can it be switched off, but also be placed in Supermoto mode.

MTC (MOTORCYCLE TRACTION CONTROL) The Motorcycle Traction Control (MTC), a lean-angle sensitive traction control system, reacts immediately if the rotational speed of the rear wheel is disproportionate to the riding situation. In a matter of milliseconds, MTC reduces the engine output with an extremely smooth, barely perceptible intervention at the throttle valves, until the system has reduced slippage to optimum proportions for the selected ride mode and current angle of lean. Depending on the selected ride mode, MTC allows three different levels of traction slip at the rear wheel. ‘Sport’ is up for respectable drifts and a perceptible amount of slippage, ‘Street’ keeps things smooth for comfortable, controllable riding with full engine power, ‘Rain’ is all about early intervention and maximum grip in the wet. And that’s not the end of it. Daredevils, we give you: the off-switch.

SLIPPER CLUTCH Not only does the slipper clutch open when the engine back-torque becomes too high, it also assists when you open up the throttle. The former prevents destabilizing rear wheel chatter when braking sharply or decelerating; the latter reduces the hand force required for changing gear, allowing the clutch to be controlled with one trigger happy finger.

SUPERMOTO MODE The fun-loving Supermoto mode allows the rider to block the rear wheel - a prerequisite for committed Supermoto riding and deliberately executed slides. The ABS function remains active on the front wheel, even in this mode.
