By MTHOKOZISI MKHONZA THE 2017 edition of the Maimane Alfred Phiri (Map) Games has been yet another success! Yesterday, four teams: Black Poison, Mighty Birds, Ndengeza and Lebash battled it out for a spot in the final. And now, all eyes are on the eagerly-awaited final taking place today at Alexandra Stadium (5pm). The two teams, that had not been finalised yet at the time of going to print yesterday, will be wrestling for the trophy that was won by Braamfischer Eagles last year. The popular kasi diski tournament kicked off a month ago and thousands of fans witnessed another success of the games that have grown significantly since they were launched in 2001. This year was the 17th edition of the tournament and it continued to live up to expectations. Since the inception of the tournament, there’s no club that have successfully defended the title, something organisers can brag about, as it proves that the tournament is growing and is competitive. The Map Games, which are

organised by former Bafana Bafana and SuperSport United midfielder Maimane Phiri, do not only afford up-and-coming players an opportunity to showcase their talent, also help raise funds for locally-based organisations. The Map Games attract various club officials, talent scouts and kasi soccer lovers from different parts of Gauteng. Phiri told SunSport that without the support from the fans, the games would not be what they are today. Said Phiri: “The Map Games are not only about football but also about uniting people. “People from different cultures come together to enjoy each another’s company. “The competition has also grown, and the attendance was high at all our games. That’s exciting! “People enjoy skills and the trickery they have come to miss that in the Premier Soccer League.” Over the past years, these games have produced the likes of Tshepo Matete, Lebogang Manyama, Khethokwakhe Masuku, Thabo Mosadi and Sipho Moeti.

Dikwena lack the killer bite! By MTHOKOZISI MKHONZA In Orkney AFTER their timid 1-0 loss to Free State Stars in the first semi-final of the Bokone Bophirima Maize Cup in Orkney yesterday, Platium Stars’ newly appointed assistant coach Milton Dlamini accused Dikwena’s former star striker Ndumiso Mabena of being a prima donna! Mabena, who allegedly refused to renew his contract at the North West outfit, wants a bigger and better deal.. According to Dlamini, the club is keen on retaining Mabena’s services but his demands are above their reach – and as things stand the club may be forced to look for a replacement. Dlamini said: “We are losing key players at an alarming rate. Mabena is a good player, we rate him very highly. But we can’t afford him as things stand. If he wants he can still come back with a reasonable offer, the team still wants him. Hopefully we can agree on the personal terms with him.” Stars recently signed Baroka FC striker Phineas Matlakaka who scored five goals in 10

matches helping Bakgaga to survive the axe last season. Dikwena have already lost striker Bonginkosi Ntuli who is returning back to Mamelodi Sundowns as his loan spell with Dikwena has to come an end. Yesterday, they had a youthful team that will need to be mixed with experienced players. The Rustenburg-based club has also lost promising youngster Kobamelo Kodisang, who joined Absa Premiership and MTN8 Champions Bidvest Wits. Looking at the number of exits from their camp, Dikwena could face a serious struggle in the coming season. New coach Peter Butler who was appointed early last month, has not started his duties with the club as he is still waiting for his work permit. The former Botswana mentor has his work cut out as his squad is dominated by inexperienced youngsters. Dlamini also admitted that the club will need to bring in new experienced faces before the start of the new season. He insisted that they can’t rely on the Multichoice Diski Challenge players for survival in the top flight division.

Bafanaholdtheadvantage KAIZER Chiefs striker Ryan Moon scored a goal on debut in the 28th minute and Gift Motupa doubled the advantage in the second-half. Bafana threatened early, as another debutant in Teboho Mokoena directed a free-kick into the arms of goalkeeper Masule Mwapule. The deadlock was broken by Moon as the game approached the half-hour mark, the 20-year-old forward beating his marker and marking his maiden Bafana Bafana appearance with a neat goal. Others to have netted in their first showing for South Africa in the past few years include Mpho Makola, Thabo Mnyamane, Bongani Ndulula and David Zulu. For Botswana, Kabelo Seakanyeng had a shot on goal midway through

the stanza, while Thero Setsile headed wide shortly before the break. Coming out for the second period, the home side pushed for an equaliser and Bafana Bafana lived dangerously but eventually got the ball clear following a goal mouth scramble. At the other end a good move afforded Gift Motupa the space to shoot but he directed his effort wide of goal. When given another opportunity in the 72nd minute he did not disappoint as Cole Alexander picked up Jamie Webber’s cross to set up Motupa to score his fourth in the colours of the national team. But sadly that’s not how it works in football. In reality Amakhosi and their thousands of fans know that the team has to double their effort if they are to be seen as a force to be reckoned with in the upcoming season. It’s one thing impressing in a meaningless pre-season tournament and another thing when it comes to staking your claim in the top flight division. But their fans will have every reason to be optimistic by what they have seen at the one day tournament held at James Motlatsi Stadium in Orkney yesterday. Their team kept two clean sheets and scored three goals. Amakhosi displayed a solid performance to defeat Free State Stars 1-0 in the final watched by a capacity crowd. Crowd favourite George Lebese finished off a brilliant move to round off a great day for the Soweto giants with eight minutes on the clock. Coach Steve Komphela fielded two teams in the two games against Township Rollers of Botswana when they won their semi-final showdown 2-0. The team he fielded for the grand finale against Ea Lla Koto also played well. But as to whether Amakhosi have enough

quality or not to challenge for honours next season remains to be seen. There was a big crowd that created an electric atmosphere as Orkney came alive. The Mother City based outfit were denied their PSL berth by Baroka FC and Troughton says he is better equipped to make an impact in the PSL this time. Troughton said: “I have a point to prove and my goal is to qualify for the top8.”

TV HOST ‘LOSES HER COOL’

SunReaders with long memories will recall her almost forgotten claim to fame – Joyce Omphemetse Molamu was allegedly “blessed” by Minister Fikile Mbalula nearly six years ago. Now, Joyce is back in the headlines, as TV presenter Uyanda’s lawyers close in on her. There’s also a Crimen Injuria (a wilful injury to someone’s dignity, caused by the use of obscene or racially offensive language or gestures) charge brewing, which Uyanda laid at Midrand Police Station. The cause of all the trouble is a WhatsApp screenshot containing Uyanda’s private number – which went viral on social media. Uyanda freaked out when she became aware of this gross invasion of her privacy. And she traced the screenshot to Joyce’s Facebook page. Joyce is a young ladys who is well-known in Jozi night clubs. Sources close to the situation say Uyanda returned from Dubai, London and Paris, where she was filming the second season of her reality show, Uyanda, It’s On, and discovered that her number was circulating. A source close to Joyce said Uyanda was just one of the many high-profile

An affidavit filed by Uyanda revealed that Joyce sent her the screenshot she made public – and claimed she did it to hit back at her. According to the affidavit, Joyce accused Uyanda of asking her man for money. But Uyanda stated that the guy was her homeboy – whom she had helped financially to save his house and car from the repo men. Joyce allegedly replied in a WhatsApp, saying: “Correction – his house was auctioned, he still has his M4 that he hasn’t paid for three months.” She then posted a Facebook message, which said: “Somebody must get Uyanda Mbuli a blesser so she can stop asking our men for money.” And Joyce then added Uyanda’s private cellphone number. Uyanda stated in her police document

that this was: “. . . calculated to grossly impair my right to human dignity with content, which was malicious, extremely defamatory, humiliating to her.” And that Joyce had committed an intentional act of Crimen Injuria. Uyanda wrote that she had never met Joyce until she contacted her about the screenshots. She stated that Joyce had directly insulted her in a string of WhatsApp messages, had called her “a stupid bitch” and had released Uyanda’s private cellphone number to the public domain. This, according to Uyanda, had caused her to endure abuse, insults and stalking from people who’ve had a field day, using this number for all sorts of unlawful reasons. Joyce rose to fame when she claimed to have been impregnated by Mbalula. She was later featured in newspapers after leaking nude pictures. Uyanda refused to comment, and referred the SunTeam to her lawyers, Popo Masilo and Calvin Maile. Popo said: “We sent a letter demanding a written apology for infringment to the right of dignity of our client. We’re also contemplating a lawsuit.” When asked to comment, Joyce said: “This matter is Sub Judice, I can’t comment at this stage.”

This as the accused, sentenced to 12 years in prison last year in March for killing her lover and hip hop star Flabba (real name Nkululeko Habedi), had allegedly demanded a laptop and web access. This week, she filed an urgent application with the South Gauteng High Court to force the Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Michael Masutha, to grant her these privileges. In her affidavit, seen by the SunTeam, Sindisiwe insists the two items are important for her to complete her higher certificate in law, for which she has registered with the University of South Africa. Her court papers read, in part: “I have submitted a request to be allowed a laptop and a modem for my study purpose on 3 July 2017, and have since not received any feedback on the matter. “I also wish to bring this to your attention that my academic year has started and I’m lagging behind with my studies. “Further delay would result in me being unable to cope with the required performance for my progress and development.” To strengthen her case, Sindisiwe said she was also

registered for online modules, for which there was no printed study material. “All material is sent electronically and has to be downloaded, creating a need for it to be stored in a laptop.” Sindisiwe insisted. She also stated that she didn’t understand why she hadn’t been granted the material because other inmates had, on previous occasions, been allowed access to such tools. “This is on the basis of court rulings in favour of fellow inmate students using laptops, specifically Regina Kgafela, Loraine Ndlovu, Bridgette Nxele and Venise Fisher, among others, in this correctional centre.” She said this would prejudiced her if she was denied access to the items as she studied at night, weekends and public holidays. The Department of Correctional Services spokesperson, Singabakho Nxumalo, said: “Correctional Service’s legal department is to receive court papers and will respond accordingly.”

Sunday Sun can reveal that Udo was approached by the powers that be at the SABC to take the mic from the fired legendary sports presenter, Robert. Robert was fired last week after boycotting his radio show for two weeks. This after he decided to stay away from work when his producer, Beverly Maphangwa, was suspended. Since Robert’s departure from the public broadcaster, several presenters had been called in to host the show and, Mpho Maboi ended up being the substitute. By KGOMOTSO MOGANEDI CONVICTED murderer Percy Khoza has angered Sushi King Kenny Kunene by making remarks before being sentenced for murder. Kenny’s enraged reaction was triggered by this boasting quote from the condemned killer: “I don’t care whether I’m going to get a life sentence or not. “But I will be back, don’t worry. When I come back, I will be rich like Kenny Kunene.” And that remark didn’t go down well at all with the Sushi King. He slammed Khoza for his arrogance – and also for using his name. This after the drunken driving charges against him were withdrawn in the Pretoria Magistrates Court on Friday. Thato told the SunTeam he was happy this monkey was finally off his back. Speaking of the incident that got him into trouble, Thato said: “I was stopped by the cops during a random stop and search in Pretoria. They asked me if I was drunk, to which I responded with a no.” The actor, known as Nicholas on the SABC1 soapie, said one of the police officers then alluded to have seen him leave “a place where they sell liquor”. “So, I asked them if leaving such a place meant one was drunk. This prompted them to subject me to a breathalyser test, for which the results were negative,” he said. “They tested me for the second time. The results were again negative. “Not satisfied, they decided to take me to the district surgeon to have my blood tested.” A disappointed Thato said they then took his blood and charged him. Insisted Thato: “I don’t know what their intention was because they also lied about me speeding on the chargesheet.” Glad the law had taken its course, Thato said he could finally forget this horrible ordeal. His legal representative, advocate Dronwynne Fobay of Fobay Attorneys Incorporated, said the charges were withdrawn because the state wanted to postpone for further investigation. The family still can’t believe what has

happened to their brother.” Craig told the People’s Paper that Khulekani was from a wedding performance in Vosloorus, also Ekurhuleni. He is said to be fighting for his life in ICU at Charlotte Maxeke Joburg Academic Hospital. Craig went on: “Khulekani is strong and will soldier on through the pain, despite the fact that he suffered internal bleeding and his lungs collapsed.” The manager said the car’s front tyre came off, causing the German

luxury vehicle to lose control and cause the accident. “Having seen the accident scene, I still ask myself how did they survive,” said Craig. Khulekani was booked to perform in Zimbabwe on Thursday, and was supposed to fly on Wednesday. He was expected back in South Africa yesterday, where he was scheduled to perform at a gig in Durban. Craig added that Khulekani’s family was worried because the gospel singer was the breadwinner.

This allegation came after Dlubheke (23) dumped Izingane Zoma Music Production which is owned by Shobeni. He allegedly also moved out of his dad’s home to stay in his house that he built in the same village in Nquthu, KwaZulu-Natal. Dlubheke has released 13 albums under Shobeni’s recording label since 2009. But he released his 14th, a 12-track album titled Wazondimbuka under the label of his new home: Ukhozi Media. Dlubheke told Sunday Sun he left his dad’s company after the death of his producer Mqapheleni Magubane last year – when he felt isolated. “Mqapheleni was a dedicated producer who had taken care of me since 2009. After his death I was struggling with the music production. “It doesn’t matter that the record label is owned by my father. If it can’t help me to progress, why should I stay? “Everything was good before Mqapheleni died,” he said.

A source said the problem started when Shobeni chose to focus on being the Ward 1 councillor at Nquthu last year. “But Shobeni produced a new album for Khuzani Mpungose. And last week, he was in Jozi for Khuzani’s gold disc celebration,” said the source. Shobeni told Sunday Sun: “We agreed that my son should build another home because he has two wives. “My focus is on my duties in my village, and I occasionally check operations in Joburg. All operations are handled by Thulani Ngcobo,” he said. Dlubheke said: “I can’t work with Ngcobo. He’s a promoter not a producer.” Thulani told the People’s Paper: “Dlubheke left the company peacefully. We wish him good luck.”

She said she was excited to be part of such remarkable groups. “Above all, I’m genuinely humbled to be given such an offer among throngs of very talented people. I’m really honoured,” she said. Johannes Ramathoka, who is the group manager, producer and husband of the late Matlakala, told Sunday Sun: “We have signed Bezizwe because she has a voice, dance moves and stage presence similar that of the late Matlakala. “Although it wasn’t easy to find someone who has the same talent, I’m happy because Bezizwe is the right person and has great talent which she is set to showcase through these two groups while leading them both,” he said.

FORMER president Thabo Mbeki appeared in public once again, for a rare interview on Power FM and eNCA. His words got the nation glued to the small screens and tuned in to regional radio stations owned by businessman, Given Mkhari. The interview generated much interest and debate across the country. Whether people agree with him or not, Mbeki is a charismatic leader who commands a great following. Since the day he was recalled as the president of the country, every time he speaks or comments on issues, people take time to listen and debate, in a way they don’t do after a Zuma speech. One of the things that makes Mbeki one of a rare breed of leaders is that he’s intelligent, and speaks with confidence and deep conviction. These are qualities which are definitely lacking in our current leader: Msholozi.

N Thursday night, Power FM hosted a conversation with former president Thabo Mbeki. The conversation was semi-structured, allowing for Mbeki to answer specific questions posed by the chair while elaborating on his views. It was quite interesting because listening to the former president is always an informative experience (whether one agrees with him or not), and because it touched on issues the country desperately needed to prioritise. One of the issues Mbeki touched on was the land question. But it was not the usual land-question rhetoric we are subjected to by populist political leaders, who use it for political gain? No. It was a meaningful conversation that was a product of deep reflection. Often when we speak of land, we refer to big commercial and private farms in the hands of a few. We argue that this land, most of which is in rural areas and small towns, should be expropriated and redistributed among the poor. This is where the conversation ends. But what the conversation doesn’t speak to is the issue of urban land – in cities and towns, most of which has been developed for urban use, and is usually excluded from the conversation. It’s often assumed urban areas like Cape Town and Joburg are not crucial in this conversation because they are not agricultural and, therefore, have no massive tracts of

Over the past few weeks, there have been numerous land protests across the Gauteng and Western Cape provinces. The protests have been over access to land for housing. In areas like Eldorado Park and Ennerdale in the south of Jozi, these protests were violent. At the heart of the violence was the residents’ feeling that government had neglected their plight and not prioritised the urban housing crisis.

And there is some legitimacy to this argument. Government policies on land reform focus mainly on agricultural land and not so much on land that’s already been developed in cities – land that should also be used for the greater good of the people of Mzansi. Mbeki argued that he should not be given land in his rural home in the Transkei because he lives in Jozi and, therefore, does not work the land. This made me think about my own feelings about land ownership. Like Mbeki, I identify myself as a city girl. I have no interest in owning land in rural Free State, where my family comes from. I know nothing

S Mbeki kept repeating: “We need to be serious about how we frame the conversation.” It’s not a conversation we should use opportunistically to win votes. We should be serious about what practical steps government needs to take to address the urban land question. For example, in major cities like the CBD of Jozi, there are many abandoned and hijacked high-rise buildings that pose a health and environmental risk to the occupants. Government should raze these buildings and use the land for better and dignified housing projects for the poor. It should also buy unoccupied and unused urban land for housing projects. It should also ensure security of tenure by having this land in its ownership. Above all, government should provide title deeds to township home-owners who were denied them by the past regime. This is how we should start thinking about land, if we are serious about justice.

HIS week, we meander into Kuli Roberts’s turf of relationships to make a point about our discussion. Separation, briefly or permanently, is not or does not have to be a bad thing. Often, fear of a split is informed by the worry of potentially losing material things, certain luxuries or a standard of life. But it’s pointless hanging on to something or each other when doing so is no longer good, when life is at risk or there are serious damages to be incurred – not only by the parties involved, but also those around them such as children. On the occasion that a relationship produces toxicity of the kind that’s physically, emotionally, spiritually and mentally harmful, then such a union ought to be dissolved for the sake of all involved. “Just move on and be great,” advised Kuli in her column last week. Yet, toxic relationships continue to play themselves out in the open, with those involved hanging on for dear life.

Encourage kids to love reading! WHAT a shame. I dream of a reading nation. A nation filled with intellectuals at all levels. But how do we achieve that when children are denied the chance to develop a culture of reading? I get excited when I see kids at a library. But to my surprise and dismay, I saw kids being denied entry at Phumulong municipal library in Tembisa, Ekurhuleni. I compared this to a patient being denied a chance or rather a right to obtain medication in a municipal clinic. What I saw was really bad. How are we going to achieve a nation of intellectuals when we don’t practise and encourage children to love reading from a young age? The children who were chased away were either 11 or 12 years old. The reason given by the librarian was that there was no one to monitor them, so they couldn’t be let in – let alone being told when to come back. This is unfair to our nation and children. And more often than not, signs that it’s over are always there. Parties involved do see them, but try to use all sorts of adhesives to artificially keep the damned thing together. Meanwhile dysfunction, negligence, chaos, wastefulness, petty disagreements and fights keep pointing to the obvious: it’s over! And despite the tell-tale signs, some people resolve and hope for the relationship to endure, as informed by the desire to prove the enemy wrong, sometimes to their own detriment and great cost to others. And for certain people, hanging on is for the purpose of being lauded as inspirational individuals who conquered against all odds. This takes us to the ANC. There are many signs hinting at a need for the ruling party to split. This because its political polygamous

marriage under the banner of the broad church hasn’t been working. In fact, it’s been failing the populace in the last few years. Governance breakdowns, scandals, self-spearing and infighting point to a dysfunctional marriage that’s produced worthless offspring. Thus we ought to note commentators such as Prince Mashele, who suggest it’s naive to expect an alliance of such people to focus on governing Mzansi efficiently. The greatest thing the ANC can do for itself and the people of this country is to severe ties with its alliance partners. Then, it might be able to self-correct and renew.

HIS is the best solution for those within the ANC, who are determined to fight to the bitter “selfish” end for the capture of the state by the West, or for those who are for Asian enslavement, to do so on a separate political party.

Such a separation will mean less confusion, chaos, instability and infighting, which have slowed down the progress of this country. The ANC has to split because, as Mashele puts it, “the divisions in the ANC are so deep that it’s impossible for anyone to reunite the party”. It’s best for the ANC to split because the leaders from its factions have acknowledged brown envelopes as being part of the biggest divisive tools in their organisation, and it doesn’t seem there’s a plan to deal with this malady. So, whichever faction loses in December will make things difficult for the winners or vice versa. The ANC ought to divorce because its fear of a split has nothing to do with the concern that such will be disastrous for the country. A divorce will spell disaster for itself and the wealth accumulators in their ranks. The ANC’s elective conference’s wedding, super-glue and or unity ideas are a farce. Insatiable hunger for Mzansi’s wealth is the glue keeping the ANC and its alliance partners together, not the wellbeing of the populace.

FREEEDUCATION!

TO this day, I still can’t understand the reason why free education should only be provided to hardened prisoners – while thousands of innocent children are struggling to further their studies in Mzansi. Many families are financially disadvantaged and need some help to get their children a decent education. It’s no wonder that our government is no longer building schools but is busy building, extending and renovating prisons for prisoners to enjoy taxpayers’ money. It almost seems as if our government is encouraging criminality to continue unabated. In South Africa one needs to

commit a crime to be in prison and get an education. Most of the offenders who get the chance to further their studies have committed serious crimes. They shed blood, killed innocent people and raped our sisters and mothers. But instead of being punished for their evil deeds, our government chooses to honour them with degrees, diplomas, masters and doctorates as if what they did was something good. Young people, fresh from matric, are the future of this beautiful country and that fact needs to be recognised by the government. To me, these youngsters are

Jesus and balanced humanity

JESUS is the perfect example of a balanced life. The scripture says: “And Jesus increased in wisdom and in favour with God and men.” (Luke 2:52) This verse refers to Jesus’s human nature. His body increased in stature and bulk. As he grew up, His soul increased in wisdom. And He grew in favour with God and man. God’s image shone brighter in Him. Jesus grew intellectually or mentally, physically, spiritually and socially. Romans 12:2 says: “Do not be conformed to this world.” In other words, do not let the world around you squeeze you into its mould. The verse continues: “But be transformed . . .” How? “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” What we think about affects our lives. Proverbs 23:7 teaches that as a man: “Thinks in his heart, so is he.” So, mental balance is built by stretching our minds and screening our input. We must screen things that come into our minds. Matthew 28:19, emphasises teaching, it says: “ . . . make disciples (teaching) of all nations, baptising the . . . and teaching them to obey everything . . .” In John 8:32, Jesus said: “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Freedom comes by having the right kind of thoughts. We are told in scripture to think about: “Whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.” (Phillipians 4:8)

thankful that the aged in our area were beneficiaries of this noble project. “I hope they will cherish the gifts, during this chilly season. “The donation comes at the time when most of our people need blankets to stay warm and keep the chilly weather at bay. “We wish that the pupils will continue doing this to other areas and assist needy communities during the time of need. “As a municipality, we wish to maintain this partnership with the Azaadville community, and wish them well in their work. By SNAZO NOTHO HE recent spate of killings aimed at women by their lovers has revealed a shocking truth about toxic relationships. Many people are stuck in bad relationships because they are scared of what people will say if they leave their partner. A study shows that 90% of young people are in toxic relationships and don’t get out. According to social worker Simphiwe (not her real name), from the Orange Farm Clinic, south of Joburg, young people stay in these relationships because they’ve given up on finding happiness. Simphiwe told SunBuzz kids inherited what their parents did and double it. “No matter how we hate to admit it, we grow up to be exactly like our parents. We inherit their behaviour and, because young people are opinionated, double it. Toxic relationships and friendships ruin a person’s self-esteem.” She said the signs were there from the early stages, but were ignored because people sought validation and to be accepted. Said Simphiwe: “Most people who accept toxic relationships are girls. They get themselves in such relationships hoping the person will change. Half the time, people who refuse to leave a toxic relationship never really received love from home. They think this one person is worth the sacrifice.”

Tsholofelo, who’s experienced both a toxic friendship and relationship, said she didn’t realise she was in a toxic relationship. Said Tsholofelo: “He started having problems with me having and hanging out with male friends, and in the way I dressed. I shrugged it off, thinking he was overprotective.” The DJ insisted her ex was a good guy and that she struggled to think of his behaviour as abusive. “If anything, I blamed myself for his behaviour. I thought I had triggered it with my actions. So, I stayed because I thought if I behaved better it would all be okay.” The 21-year-old said she felt like a child when cohabiting with her partner at the time because she had to ask for her boyfriend’s permission whenever she wanted to go out. “Whenever we went out to the garage, he’d park the car outside and wait for me outside the store. I’m a DJ, at gigs he wouldn’t let any male talk to me. He always wanted to know where I was, who I was with and why I was with them?” Tsholofelo said she never thought her then partner was being abusive. She said: “It’s actually funny because you read articles about toxic and abusive relationships and, when it happens to you, you turn a blind eye and think this could never happen to me,” she added. According to Tsholofelo, it was hard to leave a

person with whom she’d lived with for a year. “I guess personal insecurities played a part . . . I was afraid of being alone. We were together for so long, our lives were so integrated.” Pschologist Nokuphiwa Sithole said people don’t leave toxic relationships, not because they can’t see that they are toxic, but because of the way they’d be treated for staying that long. “It’s not easy to leave anything you’re used to, but if it’s not good for you, let it go. The process of letting go needs one to apply their mind and commit to changing the situation.” Below are a few steps you can follow to let go: ) Make up your mind – You need to ensure the decision you take is solely yours. This will enable you to seek help. ) Find information about places you can go to for help. ) New habits – Focus on new things, things you never had time for when you where in a relationship. ) Go out more – Socialise with people, go out meet new people and make friends. ) Heal – Healing is a process. ) Allow yourself to be vulnerable – Cry if you have to to allow the feeling of being hurt to take its time, eventually the pity party will be over. ) Don’t rush to be in a relationship – Give yourself time to know what you want. ) Talk about your experience – Talking helps.

INGREDIENTS , 4 x chicken breasts. , 500g spaghetti stir fry vegetable mix. , Chicken spice and salt to taste. , 30ml olive oil. , 50ml soy sauce.

METHOD ) Preheat the stove. ) Bring the water, together with dry parsley, salt and bit of olive oil, to the boil. ) Cook the spaghetti until it is done. ) Rinse and keep it on the side. ) Slice the chicken breasts into strips, marinade them with olive oil, a bit of soy sauce, chicken spice and salt and pepper for 10 minutes. ) SautĂŠ the chicken strips for 15 minutes and set aside. ) Fry the vegetables in a pan with oil and butter for 10 minutes. ) Combine the three ingredients: cooked stir-fry, chicken strips and spaghetti in a wide pan. ) Fry them together for 2 minutes, add the soy sauce and continue to cook for an extra 2 minutes before serving. Preparation Time: 30 minutes. Cooking time: 40 minutes. Difficulty: Super Easy!

By NORMAN MASUNGWINI HEY may have first met as a seller and customer, but two young entrepreneurs from Limpopo have since evolved into business partners. Tshilidzi Nelwalani (33) had always sold garments and Peter Mbelengwa (37) was one of his loyal and trusted customers. And despite having known each other from church, they only got to work together later on in life. In fact, the friends don’t believe it was a coincidence, saying their fate as partners had been sealed a long time ago. So, when Tshilidzi’s entrepreneural instinct presented a big idea to him, only one person – who could help shape the vision – came to his mind: it was Peter. Said Tshilidzi: “He was like a brother who would complete my vision of a top business.” And as the two met to finally discuss what would be their future business, they knew their lives and those of their future clients would change for the better from that point on. According to Tshilidzi, Peter asked all the relevant questions, which laid the foundation of their fashion label, A Brand Called You. “Peter wanted to professionalise the business, and this led us to turn my flat in Sunnyside, Pretoria, into both a shop and office,” Tshilidzi said. “We then hired someone as an administrator to man the office, but we didn’t know where the money to pay her would come from.” He said at the time, they were actively selling their clothes on the streets. “So, the administrator would take orders and handled calls.” Peter said before their business grew to where it is today, Tshilidzi used to travel to Jozi to stock their merchandise. “We then realised that some of the merchandise wasn’t the right size for our customers and needed alterations. We would take the same money to get things altered,” Tshilidzi said. Peter said they registered their business with the Department of Trade and Industry, along with their trademark. “We also opened a business account.”

But the two young men had neither a background nor qualifications in the design or retail industries. Their only weapon was their fashion taste. Peter has a BA degree in communications science, while Tshilidzi holds two diplomas, one in paralegal and the other in procurement. Before joining forces, Peter’s CV was that of a welltravelled employee in management. But since starting the label, the two have seen their business grow to two shops and one factory. Said Peter: “We have nine full-time employees and five promoters across the country.” He said their first shop was located inside the Khoroni Hotel in Thohoyandou, Limpopo, while the other shop and factory were in Pretoria. They’re planning to open a store in Joburg this summer.

Their trademark clothes are jumpsuits, and their brand has been endorsed by local celebrities. “We owe our growth to our clients. We also have celebs who’ve proudly worn our clothes,” said Peter. Some of their clients include Muvhago’s lead actor Gabriel Temudzani, Stoan Seate, Tbo Touch and Oliver Mtukudzi. “Recently, we started sending clothes all over Mzansi. Our first registered cargo at the airport was last month, to Durban.” The booming business has stretched its tentacles as far as London. “Its popularity comes from the fact that our clothes are personalised,” Tshilidzi said. The brand has expanded to formal clothes like suits, golf T-shirts, jackets, pants and traditional attire. “Our garments have an SA flag on them as we want people to be proud to be South African.”

The 28-year-old beauty from Botswana moved to Mzansi to expand her business. She wanted to become a big name in the fashion industry and to provide a platform for more up-and-coming designers in Africa. She told Sunday Sun: “I started the company after I finished studying fashion in Botswana. I was approached by a local online TV channel and asked to style some of their presenters. “Fortunately, they were looking for a designer. I got the job, but I had no capital or resources.” June said she came from humble

beginnings and was doubted by many because she was fresh out of school. She said like any other new business, her first project cost her a lot of money. “I used the money I got as a deposit to buy material and machines. I didn’t hire anyone to help me. I asked my mum to help me finish my order, even though she was not much of a designer but a high school home economics teacher.” Although she didn’t make any profit from that project, she delivered on time and her clients were happy. June is involved in the entire process, from sketching the design to sewing the garments. “I mostly design dresses but now I want to challenge myself, which is why I moved to Mzansi. Fashion is appreciated

here because it’s a big country and people want to try everything. Botswana is a small country, and all the designers know each other,” she said. INTERNATIONALLY, it’s making makin waves, but why have we not been proactive roactive in getting this concept off the ground in Mzansi? Slicker, trendier and younger designs have been making maki its way into our closets as retailers and designers started catering to the needs of women. All women. Nomuzi is also affectionately known as Skhanda Queen. It was in 2012 when she bagged the MTV Base VJ Search prize. And like a vision, she continues to pop up significantly in every local designer’s wish list to dress her for possessing that irresistible “It” factor. Nomuzi is a notorious fashionista, constantly confusing the fashion enemy. What makes her even more fashionably dangerous is the genius ability to dictate her provocative style choices to the style hungry, exuding a good-girl-gone-bad demeanour. What I adore about Skhanda Queen of cool is that she’s unpredictable. One moment she’s spotted reigning supreme looking androgynous. And the next she slays in glam frocks. “Locally, my favourite designer is Gert-Johan Coetzee. He has this incredible ability to make me look and feel like a queen,” she tells me. Being a genuine fashion rebel, she is capable of embracing the tough-guy jacket, solidifying its titleholder as the symbol of born-free style culture. Her take on the biker jacket is: “I love a good statement piece that stands the test of time, and biker jackets do that perfectly.” The biker jacket continues to strongly redefine street style, making being bad and boujee look damn cool. Celebs like Skhanda Queen continue to inspire us all. We just love how they serve us nothing but fierce style. With a brand new EP dropping soon, we can’t wait to be blown away.

true to his roots, the Eastern Cape star, born in Mthatha, embodies the best aspects of his Xhosa culture. And this has been key to helping him stand out. Speaking to SunBuzz, the reserved yet powerful musician said: “It’s hard to say what inspired the album, as different tracks would come at different times. But Wena, one of the first songs I wrote, gave me some idea of where to direct my creativity because I was struggling with the overall concept. “That’s because it’s difficult writing your second album. “My first one was easy, as it was autobiographical. Besides, musicians like myself strive to write really genuine music, but it’s not that easy.” Bongeziwe said he was pleased with how Mangaliso turned out because time was never on his side when

working on it. “I wrote while travelling, playing and touring. But it was interesting because this gave me the opportunity to tap into a whole new creative process,” he said. “Because I was on the road, I used whatever I had. I wrote on flights and hotel note pads. “So, the album is about that process: finding fulfilment, happiness and freedom.” Having worked with Tiago Correia Paulo, a guitarist from the legendary 340ml band who produced Mangaliso, Bongeziwe said he’d also like a collaboration with greats the likes of Pops Mohammed, Oliver Mtukudzi, Ringo Madlingozi and Buhle from The Soil. ) Bongeziwe is billed for the upcoming Oppikoppi and Rocking The Daises festivals.

YFM’S breakfast show co-host Lebang Kgosana says she loves bringing Bang Bang Boogie on air! The 27-year-old from Woodmead, north of Joburg, hosted a hip hop show last week. Speaking to SunBuzz, Lebang said hip hop is her first love. “I enjoyed doing the show. It was a great experience,” she said. “I was a hip hop dancer and that’s how I got the name Bang Bang Boogie.” She said when her boss asked her to do the Hip hop Floor show last Thursday, she was excited. “I’ve always wanted to do the show. I stood in for DJ Speedsta a few times last year.” “Hip hop is my daily bread. It resonated with Lebang Kgosana she was happy to be called to do the Hip-hop Floor.

The DJ (real name Philani Kweyama), also a manager at Club Azar, said his debut record was finalised in December and features the “amazing” vocalist, Dladla Mshunqisi. Said the artist from Durban, KwaZulu-Natal: “I was playing at club Azar when I noticed a big guy shouting his gimmicks. The crowd ate up everything he chanted, it was quite the spectacle. “So, I approached one of the bouncers to get me his contacts or arrange that I speak to him after my set. “We later met and he introduced himself as Dladla Mshunqisi. I told him I loved

everything he had chanted while I was playing and offered to do a track with him.” According to Benny, they went straight to the studio that day, and that’s how Memeza was born. But the DJ is no stranger to showbiz, thanks to his legendary Good Sundays event, which takes place six times a year. “Having rubbed shoulders with most of Mzansi’s greatest DJs, I knew my time would come,” he said. “The response has been amazing. Despite knowing in December what we had, I never thought Memeza would be this big.” The owner of Sun Dance Music said Mzansi should anticipate “another single from Dladla and me in September”, to be followed by a full album.

HE league’s headhonchos really missed a trick at their glittering PSL Awards on Monday night. As the trophies and big cheques were being handed out as if they were candy, and while some of the patrons were playing bottoms up with various delectable drinks, one over-achieving club was forgotten. Poor Mamelodi Sundowns did not even get a single mention. We all understand and acknowledge that the night was just for the league and its cup tournament sponsors. But if Sundowns’ achievements are not celebrated in Mzansi, then where are the Brazilians going to be honoured? And what happens to the old adage, charity begins at home? Maybe, we should remind the league that it was in the middle of this season that Sundowns won the Caf Champions League and brought South Africa it’s first Caf star in the PSL era. Orlando Pirates won it under the old NSL dispensation. Perhaps, the league cares less that the Brazilians had actually gone a step further by also bringing home the Super Cup. Does it not matter that in December Pitso Mosimane’s boys became the first local club to have played in the Fifa Club World Cup? This is the same team that had three players – Hlompho Kekana, Khama Billiat and Denis Onyango – nominated for major awards at the Caf Awards. The Brazilians’ triumph in continental football has been a boost to the local league’s image. Bafana Bafana can, once again, walk with swag and confidence, thanks to Sundowns’ contribution.

Orlando Pirates are a big team and need players with a big heart, not mediocre players. Thamsanqa Sangweni is a good signing, but another quality midfielder is needed, a quality goalkeeper, two top strikers and two central defenders. On Wednesday, ASA announced the preliminary list, but some of the big guns were missing. Most local athletes had only managed a B qualifying standard, as they found it hard to make ASA’s tough criteria. But Cornelius expressed his disappointment when talking about the many high-profile names missing on the list. Said Cornelius: “I think ASA are being hush on our athletes. By SUNSPORT REPORTER AFTER 12 weeks, 66 matches and seven festivals at previously unheard of community grounds, the inaugural SuperSport Rugby Challenge concludes its maiden voyage with the final in Cape Town today. That the final of the competition – which began with 15 teams (14 local provincial teams and a Namibian invitational side) – will be played on a Sunday is a SuperSport addition to test the waters for trying it at Super Rugby level. The said final will see David try his trusted slingshot routine against Goliath when the unfashionable Griquas, who may have surprised even themselves by making it this far, test the might of Western Province, a team guarded its winning streak in the previous 10 games. At stake is not only the upset value for the Griquas or a Province going through an unbeaten season, there’s also the matter of R500 000 in prize money to go with the trophy, another unusual thing

in domestic rugby – as money is usually made from hosting the final. But with the tickets for the game being free of charge to aid the developmental message to the tournament, prize money is one way of making it worthwhile for the participating teams. In keeping with the Sunday festivals, today being the eighth, the final will be at the Florida Park Sports Grounds in Ravensmead. While it may not roll off the tongue like Newlands or Loftus Versfeld, Ravensmead did give us Proteas fast bowler Vernon Philander and two players – Craig Barry (fullback, Western Province) and Enver Brandt (wing, Griquas) – from the teams in the final. The venue – also the home ground of the Tygerberg Rugby Football Club, who’ll play against bitter rivals Belhar in the curtain

raiser for the final, boasts a history of its own. The historic bit involves an All Black doing what he shouldn’t have been doing. Club chairperson Kevin Kiewitz picks up the story: “I had the honour of playing wing in a game where we played against Harlequins of London in the late 90s. (Former All Black no.8) Zinzan Brooke had just retired from international rugby and was playing for them – he dropped in that game too!” Tygerberg has an impressive list of alumni, including former Springboks Eddie Andrews and Norman Jordaan, Bok logistics manager JJ Fredericks, Blitzbok player Justin Geduld, Bok convener of selectors Peter Jooste and Stanley Raubenheimer, among others. The club game is at 12.30pm and the Rugby Challenge final two hours later.

RugbyChallengefinalistsand unsungheroes! By SUNSPORT REPORTER THERE are three types of rugby players in the world, X-factor players, Y-factor players and others. The X- and the Y-factor players we know about are those whom coaches love, but often leave us asking: “Why the hell is he in the team?” The “others” are players who glue the team together, doing a lot of good, but unseen work, so that the X-factor players can shine. For want of a better example, we’re talking about guys like former Bulls, Toulon and Springbok utility forward, Danie Rossouw, guys who play number four lock today, blindside flanker next week, and probably number eight from half time of that game. With the final of the inaugural SuperSport Rugby Challenge final upon us, we asked the two coaches Eital of the finalists, John Dobson Bredenkamp. (Western Province) and Peter Engledow (Griquas), to take us through what the unsung heroes have been up to for their teams this season. EITAL BREDENKAMP (WESTERN PROVINCE, OPENSIDE FLANKER – 24): He and (utility forward) Jurie van Vuuren hit 50 rucks in different games this year, which I’ve never seen in my career before. This shows how hard he works. He never goes for less than 40 breakdowns a game, he’s very fast, has a very high work rate and irritates opponents, sometimes the refs too. He reminds me of a younger Chris Cloete – I’ve coached both of them – in that he’s of similar size, is an absolute openside flanker and is playing without a contract. Cloete was also uncontracted and played at Hamiltons, so does Bredenkamp. Bredenkamp has also given us cover at wing and hooker, Ederies and he’s taken some line-out ball for us, which shows how athletic Arendse. he is. JURIE VAN VUUREN (WESTERN PROVINCE, UTILITY FORWARD – 24): He played Super Rugby about

two years ago and quite a bit of Currie Cup for me. He’s a flank lock who’s probably a better four than he is a flank. He’s a quiet guy who works hard, if you take those rucks he hits I told you about into consideration. Where Jurie is great is that if you play a wide shape where you leave a hooker or flanker on the tramlines, you need locks who will work hard in-between – that’s where he is great for us. He’s quite a good line-out forward but he needs to kick on now. AJ LE ROUX (GRIQUAS, HOOKER – 26): He’s incredibly strong, works hard at training, is a strong scrummager and a very good line-out thrower. I have a philosophy that good people make good rugby players, AJ falls into that bracket. JONATHAN JANSE VAN RENSBURG (GRIQUAS, UTILITY FORWARD – 28): We’re into our third season together. He arrived here free and on trial, we gave him a six-month contract and extended it again. He’s been so good for us he’s been voted the Player’s Player of the Year. He works very hard and has a high workrate, covering lock and number eight for us. His willingness to learn is such that he’s adapted his game to learn to jump at lock. He was the kind of guy who didn’t play first team rugby at school but he still got into the Tukkies side and played Varsity Cup. On Monday night at the PSL Awards, Sibiya received the Nedbank Cup Most Promising of the Tournament Award. The 22-year-old said he dedicates his award to his young teammates at Arrows. Sibiya said his achievement was a sign that hard work does pay off. Said Sibiya: “This award means a lot to me. “It’s rare for a young player from a small team like Arrows to get such recognition. It was a special occasion for me too and I’m really happy to get such recognition.” The dribbling wizard, however, said this should push other young players to also work extra hard. Said Sibiya: “Before the award ceremony on Monday in Joburg, he told SunSport he was adamant that he would walk away with an award. “The team have a lot of

young players like myself. “Getting this award should also encourage them and make them believe in themselves. “Hard work pays off, and getting the award proves it. I dedicate it to my teammates and I hope it will push them to want to work harder than before. “After the season I had, I was confident that I would walk away with at least one award and I’m happy that it turned out just as I had hoped,” said Sibiya. The player from Durban, in KZN, was nominated in two categories, the other being the Absa Premiership Young Player of the Season. Phakamani Mahlambi of Bidvest Wits walked away with that one. After joining his teammates at Abafana Bes’thende for preseason two days ago, Sibiya said he will get his fitness back. He was with the Bafana Bafana squad that took part in the recent Cosafa Cup in Rustenburg, North West. He said he is prepared to work twice as hard next season and the award will also encourage him to do so.

Currently on duty with Bafana Bafana in the Africa Nations Championship (Chan) squad, Booysen is in the dark as to where he will be playing next season. Booysens (29) has spent the last 18 months on loan to SuperSport United from their Tshwane neighbours, Mamelodi Sundowns. He was promoted to captain Bafana after Lehlohonolo Masalesa was ruled out because this tournament was only for players who were based in Africa. He has been recalled by Downs and will report back to Chloorkop and the Brazilians head coach, Pitso Mosimane, after next Saturday’s second leg of the Chan qualifier against Botswana at the Moruleng Stadium (3.30pm). Said Booysen: “I have been recalled to Sundowns and have to go back. “But the bottom line is I want to play and don’t mind where.” He said he did not want to sit on the sidelines. “If Sundowns want me, then that will be great. But it didn’t work out for me the last time.” He said if the African champions do not need him, he would be keen to either stay at Matsatsantsa a Pitori or move elsewhere where he will be guaranteed game time. Added Booysen: “I’m up for a fresh start. I’m open to that (moving to a new club) or I would even be happier to stay at SuperSport on a permanent deal. “I’ve enjoyed my past season-and-a-half at SuperSport.” He added that the fact that United had a new head coach in Eric Tinkler would motivate him to work even harder next season if given a chance. “I would like to work with the new United coach. I’m up for that challenge.” The well-travelled Booysen earned his first Bafana cap in the

quarterfinals of the Cosafa Cup in the 1-0 loss to Tanzania. Booysen told SunSport: “I had a rough time in the second half of the season, but getting called up to Bafana has helped me get my confidence back. “Playing for Bafana has been a tremendous experience for me and I have enjoyed it.” Booysen played under new Bafana head coach Stuart Baxter at United and knows what Baxter expects, but at 29, he believes he still has a bright future at club and international level. Said the sturdy central defender: “For me, playing in the Cosafa Cup and Chan is a stepping stone to bigger things. “It will help me at club level. Hopefully, if I do well, then I will be considered for future Bafana games, includi ng Septem ber’s World Cup qualifiers against Cape Verde,” he concluded.

Yesterday, four teams: Black Poison, Mighty Birds, Ndengeza and Lebash battled it out for a spot in the final. And now, all eyes are on the eagerly-awaited final taking place today at Alexandra Stadium (5pm). The two teams, that had not been finalised yet at the time of going to print yesterday, will be wrestling for the trophy that was won by Braamfischer Eagles last year. The popular kasi diski tournament kicked off a month ago and thousands of fans witnessed another success of the games that have grown significantly since they were launched in 2001. This year was the 17th edition of the tournament and it continued to live up to expectations. Since the inception of the tournament, there’s no club that have successfully defended the title, something organisers can brag about, as it proves that the tournament is growing and is competitive. The Map Games, which are

organised by former Bafana Bafana and SuperSport United midfielder Maimane Phiri, do not only afford up-and-coming players an opportunity to showcase their talent, also help raise funds for locally-based organisations. The Map Games attract various club officials, talent scouts and kasi soccer lovers from different parts of Gauteng. Phiri told SunSport that without the support from the fans, the games would not be what they are today. Said Phiri: “The Map Games are not only about football but also about uniting people. “People from different cultures come together to enjoy each another’s company. “The competition has also grown, and the attendance was high at all our games. That’s exciting! “People enjoy skills and the trickery they have come to miss that in the Premier Soccer League.” Over the past years, these games have produced the likes of Tshepo Matete, Lebogang Manyama, Khethokwakhe Masuku, Thabo Mosadi and Sipho Moeti.

ZLATAN Ibrahimovic could be offered a new deal by Manchester United, the Premier League club’s manager Jose Mourinho said on Friday ahead of a friendly with Los Angeles Galaxy. Speaking at a news conference on the eve of their first pre-season tour match in California, Mourinho left the door open to the Swede returning when he recovers from knee surgery. The out-of-contract Ibrahimovic, 35, was United’s top scorer last term after joining on a one-year deal, but he was injured in April and is likely to be sidelined at least until December. “If the decision is to stay and wait until December – he can’t be back until them – why not wait? We are speaking and changing ideas,” the Portuguese coach told reporters. With Ibrahimovic out of action, Mourinho has brought in Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku from Everton for a fee put at about R1,3 billion by British media. Mourinho said United signed Lukaku because he is a ready-made Premier League player, having had lots of experience in England, which hopefully would allow him to fit in immediately. “Obviously there are other good strikers in football, but the Premier League is a very specific

habitat, a difficult habitat for strikers, and normally they need some time to adapt but Lukaku has been in the Premier League for five seasons,” he told reporters. “Now he comes to a club with different responsibilities in the right moment of his career. He is still a young player but he has years of experience in the Premier League and the Belgian national team. He will go into the Champions League, which was also his main motivation.” Mourinho needed a player who knows how to score against defensive teams that, using his famous phrase, “park the bus”. “Romelu is not a player that participates a lot in the build-up play. He is a player that normally plays in the last third,” added Mourinho. “We had so many opponents last season that decided clearly to defend, closing spaces, playing with lots of defenders and defensive midfield players. “We needed a target man, which is not (France forward Anthony) Martial or (England striker Marcus) Rashford. “We have good options, good players, but a target man, a clear No 9, one who is comfortable to play in the box, we thought that was Romelu.” – AFP.

SOUTH Africa coach Molefi Ntseki says the country will take an especially young group of players to the COSAFA Under-17 Championships in Mauritius from July 21-30. Ntseki has one eye on the qualifiers for the African Under-17 Championships that start next year, and so they want to use this COSAFA tournament to blood those youngsters. “COSAFA regulations require that we can select players who were born in 2001 or later,” Ntseki says. “But we have decided that we will only look at boys born 2002 and up. “It’s because we want to give international exposure to players who will still be eligible for the African Under-17 Championship qualifiers next year, so that they can get used to the demands of international football.” Ntseki will make his final selection for

the tournament over the weekend. “We have had our pre-selection camp last week and have called-up around 45 boys from all over the country for a final camp that will take place from Friday. “We will put them through training sessions and matches, and will continue assessing them before we select our best 20 for the tournament in Mauritius.” Ntseki led South Africa to 2015 Fifa Under-17 World Cup in Chile, and says to return to that level is the major aim. “We missed out on the 2017 World Cup that will be played in India, but having had a taste of that tournament and what it is like to be involved at that level, we all want to get back there. “Obviously we have to start afresh every year as boys move to the older agegroup, but our goal is to develop and enhance the talent that we have to match that standard.” – SuperSport.com

The 22-year-old central defender was thrown into the deep end by coach Pitso “Jingles� Mosimane and handled his promotion to the first team with aplomb. Madisha, who captained the MultiChoice Diski (MDC) team that won the title last season, says he wants to continue where he left off. team.� But Madisha was eventually promoted to the first team and given a chance to show his mettle. “I’m grateful to coach Mosimane and, being a young player at such a big club, I just want to cement my place in the starting line-up.� According to Madisha, he’d learnt a lot from experienced defenders Ricardo Nascimento and Wayne Arendse. And although willing to work very hard, the defender anticipated an even tougher season. Madisha said scoring his only goal against Free State Stars was the biggest highlight of his career. Looking ahead, his biggest goal for next season was to hold on to his place in the starting line-up. “I’m not worried about a call-up to Bafana Bafana because I want to establish

myself first at Sundowns,� Madisha said. “Through hard work, I know I’ll make it to the senior national team.� Locally, he looks up to his teammate Nascimento. Abroad, he’s inspired by Uefa Champions League winning defender Raphael Verane of Spanish giants Real Madrid. Madisha said playing in the Caf Champions League campaign with the defending champions had helped improve his game. He was nominated for the PSL young player of the year award won by Bidvest Wits youngster, Phakamani Mahlambi. Said Madisha: “I still have to improve here and there next season. African football has exposed me to different challenges and helped improve my aggression and technique as a defender.�

The Pietermaritzburg-born striker joined the Urban Warriors last month on a two-year deal from NFD side, Royal Eagles, where he made a name for himself. Last season in the NFD, the deadly striker netted 20 goals for his side and won the prestigious Golden Boot Award. His consistent performance also attracted interest of many PSL clubs. But George thought joining Ajax would be a stepping stone toward achieving his long-term goal of playing overseas. By MTHOKOZISI MKHONZA In Orkney AFTER their timid 1-0 loss to Free State Stars in the first semi-final of the Bokone Bophirima Maize Cup in Orkney yesterday, Platium Stars’ newly appointed assistant coach Milton Dlamini accused Dikwena’s former star striker Ndumiso Mabena of being a prima donna! Mabena, who allegedly refused to renew his contract at the North West based outfit, wants a bigger and better deal in order to stay at the club. According to Dlamini, the club is keen on retaining Mabena’s services but his demands are above their reach – and as things stand the club may be forced to look for a replacement. Dlamini said: “We are losing key players at an alarming rate. Mabena is a good player, we rate him very highly. But we can’t afford him as things stand. If he wants he can still come back with a reasonable offer, the team still wants him. Hopefully we can agree on the personal terms with him.” Stars recently signed Baroka FC striker Phineas Matlakaka who scored

five goals in 10 matches helping Bakgaga to survive the axe last season. Dikwena have already lost striker Bonginkosi Ntuli who is returning back to Mamelodi Sundowns as his loan spell with Dikwena has to come an end. Yesterday, they had a youthful team that will need to be mixed with experienced players. The Rustenburg-based club has also lost promising youngster Kobamelo Kodisang, who joined Absa Premiership and MTN8 Champions Bidvest Wits. Looking at the number of exits from their camp, Dikwena could face a serious struggle in the coming season. New coach Peter Butler who was appointed early last month, has not started his duties with the club as he is still waiting for his work permit. The former Botswana mentor has his work cut out as his squad is dominated by inexperienced youngsters. Dlamini also admitted that the club will need to bring in new experienced faces before the start of the new season. He insisted that they can’t rely on the Multichoice Diski Challenge players for survival in the top flight division.
