Things we might not know about you? I was brought up in the building industry. My grandfather was a carpenter. My father was a general contractor and he also did high end remodels in Bel Air, Beverly Hills and Santa Monica, CA. I am third generation in the building industry. I used to go to work with my Dad in the summer. I got to hang out in empty mansions while his crew remodeled, I also enjoyed the swimming pools and explored. Our family bought a home from the 1900s in Burbank. All of us were involved in the remodeling and then the sale of it. Now, it’s called “flipping.” I was a shy, middle child. My mom wanted me more outgoing so she said I should try out for cheerleader. I did and made the squad! I was a cheerleader from 8th to 12th grade and I believe it did make me more confident and outgoing. At 19 & 20 years old, I modeled hair product for Sebastian and did some freelance modeling. After some college, I worked at a Savings & Loan, then got married. My husband had to relocate to Texas best move EVER! I am now remarried to a wonderful Texas man! Six years ago, my husband and I took a year sabbatical and moved to Cancun, Mexico. It was a great experience! I loved the people, but got bored and wanted to come home and sell homes.
How did I start out in new home sales? I used to buy floor
plan books and study them. My husband would watch me and say, “You need to be in real estate.” Looking for our own home, we walked into a First Texas Home 23 years ago. We really liked it, but with only one income, we could not afford a home yet. I asked for a part-time job being a sales assistant. I was a First Texas Homes sales assistant for a couple of years and then grew my wings to a sales counselor.

Our QUALITY custom homes are the key to our success. With 45 years of experience, a major element to our success is offering home buyers in-house architectural design, custom designs and phenomenal value.
Best part of being a new home sales counselor? Watching neighborhoods come together and the friendships they create. I sometimes drive through completed communities I have previously sold in and think, Wow! I helped create this! Wildest real estate story? I was opening up a new phase
in Prestwyck in McKinney in 2015. I had worked with many buyers, planning and pricing out their dream home - but they couldn’t buy until we officially opened on September 29th. Many of the buyers wanted a certain home site and planned on buying the first day. To ensure they were able to buy the lot and floor plan they wanted, they started camping out at noon the day before. Before long, more people came with tents and sleeping bags. By the end of the day, 30+ people camped out all night around my model to secure their lot. The news media showed up to interview some of the “crazy campers!” We were on several news channels for two days about the “crazy campers” in Prestwyck!

Things we might not know about you? I sold perfume and cologne for a direct marketing company in the early 90’s. Sunday thru Friday, I traveled coast-to-coast selling and training others. You can’t be shy doing that job; I would approach 200+ people a day - asking them what kind of perfume or cologne they liked, then I’d bring them samples and make a sale. I look back on that time fondly, as we were outside talking to people, traveling and making an honest living. Talking to that many people a day teaches you to read people. I learned a whole lot about human nature and how to work with different people. Looking back, it has been very helpful in my current occupation. Funniest real estate story: Shortly after I was promoted to
sales, I was assigned a community in Mansfield that was a short drive from the model home. If someone wanted to see a property, I had to go to them. My truck started making an unmistakable, loud, clanking sound. A piece of the catalytic converter was loose on the inside clanging on the exhaust. A Realtor wanted to show one of my properties. I tell her I will be there in 3 minutes - hoping I’d beat them there. However, I get to the street, I see them standing in the driveway. I fret, “I cannot let them hear this old clangger in action.” So, when I get close enough to the property I turn off the ignition and plan to, gracefully and quietly, coast up to the house. Well, that WAS the plan! I hadn’t calculated for the curved street. Just before the property, the street curved and, of course, I turned the wheel. However, since I turned the ignition off, the steering wheel locked. Too late to recover - up on the curb I went - right in front of the Realtor and prospects! I bounced out of the truck like nothing happened with a “How are you?! Thank you for coming!” Meanwhile, the truck was still rocking side to side from the impact. THEY BOUGHT THE HOUSE!
Before I was in real estate... My first job outside of a family business, I was a fleet mechanic for a large A/C company. I have done many things; my main vocation was woodworking in large custom homes and I also was a cabinet maker. I enjoy designing and building things - using metal or wood. How long have you been in real estate? 10 years
I started with First Texas Homes in 2006 as a sales assistant.

In Loving Memory of our Friend,
Cory Herell
May God Bless His Soul Cory Herell left this earth on March 29, 2019 after battling pancreatic cancer for 14 months. Cory was courageous, caring, and never lost his faith during his illness. When he was in the hospital for the last time, his only concern was about his wife, daughter, family and friends. He wanted to make sure he visited with every person that came to see him, even when we all knew he didn’t feel up to it. Cory was a graduate of the University of Houston and a proud member of Phi Kappa Theta fraternity. We will miss Cory’s infectious laugh and his stories. He could talk about anything with anyone. Cory loved his job with Academy Mortgage. Cory is survived by his wife Jamie, and his daughter, Paige, along with a host of loving extended family members. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been created via PayPal to corymemorialfund@gmail.com. Donations will be distributed per Cory’s final wishes.
