Troubleshooting Smart Home Tech While Working From Home
I
t’s been almost two years since the COVID-19 pandemic forced many businesses to shift their physical models and adapt to a remote, virtual environment. Now in 2022, the rise of Omicron variant cases has resulted in offices sending their employees back to work from home again. A recent survey from Assurant shows that full time work from home activity is expected to increase by 33% as the pandemic continues, tripled from 11% when the pandemic began. This upward trend in work from home culture also comes with an upward trend in smart home device connectivity, particularly right after the holidays when people want to work simultaneously with their new smart televisions, smart speakers, and other devices operating in the background. Renters and homeowners alike have even opted for smart home appliances and amenities included with the property, as the demand for smart home technology increased by nearly 25% at the end of 2021 and is expected to accelerate throughout the next few years. With new smart home technology products, troubleshooting these devices when not working properly can be stressful, especially when the company’s IT department can’t come to the home environment.
The first instinct of many would be trying to fix the problem themselves or going directly to the device manufacturer, and there are simple steps one can take, while not interrupting workflow at the same time. To ensure smooth connectivity in every corner of the home, one should start by keeping a close eye on issues shown by the existing Wi-Fi router, such as web pages loading slowly or video playback constantly buffering.

ow’s a great time to plan a home office. Working from home is no longer considered unusual, and having a formal workspace may even increase the value of your home.
Approximately 16% of businesses around the world only hire people who can work from their home offices. More and more companies are switching to a remote work platform. In fact, approximately 16% of businesses around the world only hire people who can work from their home offices. If your company has yet to adopt this strategy, don’t give up hope. And, if you plan to start your own business, you should plan to have a home office. Where you put your home office depends upon many factors, from your budget to the layout of your home. According to Refresh Renovations, adding an office can cost just a few hundred dollars on the low end to more than $91,000 if you have to build a new room or separate outbuilding. An ideal location would be a spare bedroom or flex space on the perimeter of your home. In other words, as convenient as it may be,

the dining room table probably isn’t a great place to work, especially if you have kids. When you work or run a business from home, you’re going to naturally spend more time at your address. Because of this, you will also want to designate space for “off the clock” activities, such as painting, meditating, or crafting. Having a dedicated recreational zone is one of the best ways to ensure that you can achieve balance between work and home. Remember, having a place to relax your mind will actually boost your creativity and help you be a better worker.
each space brings positivity to your day. With this in mind, spend some time cleaning, adding plants, decluttering, and ensuring that each room is optimized for its purpose. For example, the bedroom should be painted in soothing colors to promote relaxation and induce healthful sleep. Your office should have ample natural light and, if necessary, be soundproofed to reduce distractions. Invest in a quality, supportive chair and a sturdy desk with plenty of storage to help keep your desktop clutter-free.
If you do not have space inside of your home for both an office and a recreational area, it’s time to turn your eyes to the outdoors. Even a small covered patio will make a big difference in how much time you spend outside with your friends and family. One of the best home upgrades is an outdoor kitchen. The BBQ Guys blog explains that this extends your living space, gives you a place to entertain, and can even help you save money on your energy bills.
Working from home means spending more time in one space. This can quickly get tedious, so you have to act now to take measures to reduce burnout and enhance the enjoyability of the place you call home. You must also create designated spaces for work and play so that you can more easily separate from each when it’s time to focus on one. The above tips are just a few ideas, but, ultimately, however you set your home up should work for your budget, family, and lifestyle.
Every room in your home contributes to your quality of life. When you rely on you home place to also be work headquarters, you want to ensure that

Most-Hyped Home Design Trends for 2022 By Krisztina Bell, No Vacancy Home Staging Inc.
Creating multi-functional spaces that speak to our diverse needs is becoming essential. The latest buzz in home design centers around flexibility: creating home environments that engage the senses and are aesthetically beautiful in our everyday life as well as on Zoom calls and even selfies. To achieve that, traditional homes are getting contemporary makeovers, including with expressionistic lighting and flex spaces that can be transformed into yoga or Zen rooms. Also, a hot new amenity is a unique outdoor space soaked in “naturalness” that is all about being cozy.
Take a closer look at some 2022 home trends: Multi-functional Spaces - This new hybrid WFH (work from home) lifestyle means that formal dining rooms and living rooms may practically become extinct. Spaces are being transformed and molded for different activities. Entertaining has moved outdoors. Dining tables and kitchen islands are doubling as a desk or crafting station. So, it’s not surprising that the trend toward two kitchen islands is growing more popular.
Interior Meets Exterior - Spending more time at home ever
since the onset of the pandemic has helped people see the importance of bringing more elements of nature inside the home. Connecting with nature can make us feel better. As such, homeowners are splurging on creating a garden room, floor-toceiling windows, and adding plants to create a home office sanctuary.
Maximalism - More people are seeking to surround themselves with objects that reflect their personality. We’re seeing ex-
pressionistic lighting—like geo-shaped groupings and swirls—as well as an explosion of colorful rugs. It’s popular to mix vintage pieces with contemporary furniture and colorful glass. A few playful and unexpected pieces is all you need for this trend.
Black Accents - Versatile and classic black hardware, lighting,
paint, and even tile is hot and adds contrast against natural wood pieces and organic designs inside and outside the home. Black is modern and can be glamorous against white walls. Just a few touches can be the right amount of interest to accentuate any space.
Textures and Patterns - Textured fabrics and interesting
material patterns are huge, especially on walls, surfaces, in paint, and, of course, through fabrics on pillows, throws, and poofs. Another trendy, bold texture popping up more often is herringbone-patterned flooring. Homeowners are craving more texture, and it’s becoming a visual, almost fifth-dimensional experience in decorating a space. Source: NAR
