Garfield HS KEY CLUB The Official Newsletter of James A. Garfield High School Key Club, Division 26
July 31st, 2013
Torchlight Parade On Saturday, hundreds of participants and many onlookers gathered at the 64th Annual Torchlight Parade in Downtown Seattle. Garfield Key Clubbers had the opportunity to decorate a school bus for the Stuff the Bus organization, and march in the parade with floats, marching bands, and performance acts. Founded in 1991 to address the issue of a lack of student support services, Communities In Schools of Seattle is the parent organization of the Stuff the Bus school supply drive. This year’s goal is to help 9,000 low-income and at-risk students return to school with new school supplies, and volunteers had the opportunity to advocate for this cause during the Torchlight Parade.
MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR Dear Key Clubbers, Especially you, Class of 2014! The Garfield High School PTSA is in need of money for your Senior Class Grad Night Party. In exchange for your service at the hydroplane races, Seafair will donate $2,000 to the PTSA! This will only happen if YOU pitch in and volunteer, so I’m hoping more of you will sign up for this event. Even though it is early, it’s a great way to get in your hours for DCON and help out your school. Also, today is the LAST DAY for $5 Early Bird registration into Seattle Rally. The later you wait to sign up, the more expensive it will be! Those two dollars can save a mother and all of her future babies from MNT! Also, the registration packet has been released. Be sure to print it out and get it signed, and bring it to Seattle Rally the day of the event. Or even better, scan and email the completed form to pnwkeyclubforms@gmail.com to skip the hassle of waiting in line! The officers are currently planning a joint social event with Franklin High School’s Key Club, possibly a bonfire, so we’ll keep you posted once we decide on the details. There will be plenty of events to look forward to for the rest of summer! -Reanne Wong
