Kiwanis Meeting At the meeting, updates for the Redlight Traffic project were introduced and members were educated on the shocking statistics of the human trafficking issue in the United States. In the U.S. alone, 2.8 million children are victims of this industry, and last about two years before dying of drugs, beatings, or disease. Aimed at combatting trafficking and prostitution, Redlight Traffic is an app that will allow users to effectively report prostitution and suspicious activity via their smartphone. You can support and track their efforts here: http://www.redlighttraffic.org/index.html

“Look outside the window. In every hotel you see, I guarantee to you that there is at least one person in each of those hotels being trafficked against their will.”

MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR Dear Key Clubbers, And we’re off to another school year! Our very first meeting for the 2013-2014 school year will be held in Mr. Heye’s room during lunch, as always, this upcoming Wednesday on September 11th. New members and returning members, I look forward to seeing you there! Please bring friends, younger siblings, freshmen, and anyone else who you may think would be interested in joining the Key Club family here at Garfield. Remember, since this is only the first meeting, it’s not like you’re making a full commitment yet. So feel free to drop by our lunch meeting and experience some of the Key Club love! Don’t be shy! We just want the future of our club to be in good hands—maybe yours? Also, a huge thank you to the Kiwanis Club of Downtown Seattle, who invited us to their meeting. The view was spectacular and it was great meeting all the members and officers! We each feel more educated and updated about what’s going on within and beyond the Kiwanis family and are grateful for the experience. -Reanne Wong
