Garfield HS KEY CLUB The Official Newsletter of James A. Garfield High School Key Club, Division 26

August 14th, 2013

In this issue...

MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR Hey Key Clubbers, HOW DO YOU FEEL? I had so much fun attending Seattle Rally, and it’s gotten me all pumped up for DCON, despite the fact that it’s several months away. It was a great opportunity to meet new friends and participate in icebreakers and workshops, so you should definitely go next year! I was a little disappointed that only five people from Garfield showed up, but we’re going to have a better turnout at other divisional and district events, right? Also, huge shout out to those who came to the last car wash! The officers have been busy planning events, including the joint bonfire event with Franklin Key Club today, so we hope you show up to the next car wash and fundraise with us. I hope you enjoy reading the latest issue of the monthly newsletter! If you have any pictures, articles, quotes, shout outs or anything else you want to include in the bulletin, feel free to email/text/message me. I know I’ve been using a LOT of Angel’s photos lately, so it’d be cool to get fresh pictures from someone other than the two of us! -Reanne Wong

Car Wash On Saturday, Garfield Key Clubbers and non-Key Clubbers alike dropped by the Montlake Blvd. Market to help out at the car wash to raise money for DCON. Volunteers made new friends in the most interesting of ways. “A guy donated $20 because I was dancing,” says Chan Huynh.

On Monday, PNW Key Clubbers and friends gathered for a day of workshops, fundraising, and some serious spirit battles. Hazen High School (Division 32) was flooded with hundreds of Key Clubbers decked out in divisional tshirts, tutus, and mascot costumes. Key Clubbers had the opportunity to listen in on guest speakers, and participate in icebreakers with other divisions and an impromptu dance party during lunch and between workshops. As always, the dating workshop and challenges were a hit with participants. Photobomb people and dance behind strangers? CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!

You can be friends with “rival” divisions!

The day ended with the closing ceremony, in which exciting details about The Eliminate Project and DCON 2014 were presented. PNW Governor Trang Tran announced the goal to completely eliminate MNT by year 2015, and asked the audience to pledge their support for the cause. Miracle Minute alone raised $750 towards the Eliminate Project. The theme for DCON 2014 was revealed to be “Level Up in Service”, and it will be held from April 4th-6th, 2014 in Downtown Seattle. I’m excited for DCON already, are YOU?

Seattle Rally Recap Guest speaker Yusuf Tura:

“It’s not about resources, it’s about resourcefulness.”

The PNW district spans from western Canada to northern California: with Alaska, Washington, Oregon, and the pan-handle of Idaho in between. Here’s the 2013-2014 district map!

Fact of the Issue
