The Summer of FRONTLINER Put your hands up and cheer, The Summer of Frontliner is here! "It is with immense pleasure that I can tell you about a project that has been keeping me off the street for quite a while already! When I got my new studio, ideas just kept coming and coming! They were so versatile that it didn't feel right by putting them all on the same album, which is why I decided to start this project.
Specially for this project you can also expect some crazy collabs with artists like Kristina Antuna, Mc DV8, MC Stretch and many more. It is a pleasure working with so many great people in such an amazing environment, thank you all for making this possible and I hope you'll enjoy The Summer of Frontliner, all 14 tracks of it!”
I will claim the European summer as from the 21st of June till the 23th of September by releasing one track, every week, all summer long! Every track will come out 3 days prior to the official release of it, accompanied by a video clip.

The King of Hardstyle Keeping it Hard with Style Last year Headhunterz made his Ultra Music debut with “Colors” featuring Tatu breaking into Holland’s Top 5 on iTunes along with “United Kids of the World.” Both tracks topped the Beatport Hard Dance chart and become a Hardstyle.com No.1 in less than an hour after being released. In support of these monstrous track Headhunterz toured relentlessly throughout 2013, making himself a true diplomat of hardstyle and representing diverse crowds that are hungry to be pushed musically.
H
eadhunterz’ career is a performance. Rising from the rapidly expanding hard dance scene, he has claimed a top position in the world by reaching an amazing 11th place in the DJ MAG Top 100. This remarkable feat comes after a series of acclaimed main stage performances, three albums, several chart topping tracks and his leading genre defining, hardstyle podcast named HARD with STYLE. Headhunterz has also hosted the Amsterdam Dance Event’s biggest event by debuting the brand new, state-of-the-art concert stadium Ziggo Dome. On top of his musical career comes a strong character, that echoes through a massive and engaged world-wide and web following. As the first of a new generation of hard dance artists, Headhunterz released a series of hit records since his debit in 2006. Among his greatest pieces of work are ‘Rock Civilization,’ ‘Power Of The Mind (Qlimax 2007 Anthem),’ ‘The Sacrifice,’ ‘Scrap Attack (Defqon.1 Festival 2009 Anthem),’ ‘From Within,’ ‘Dragonborn,’ his remix of Nicky Romero’s ‘Toulouse’ and his remix of Kaskade ft. Neon Trees’ ‘Lessons in Love,’ which has seen substantial chart success. Together with fellow producer Wildstylez, he created quite a stir within the international dance community within 2008 when they launched ‘Project One’ campaign.
North America | 6
By producing a highly successful studio album in less than three months, they confirmed their abilities as musicians and set new standards for their colleagues. The tour following the release had high international acclaim but by limiting it to just five performances, it drove the demand to new heights. In 2010, the second album ‘Studio Sessions’ created an equally massive impact and was followed by a new international tour, which included the United States, Australia, Russia, Canada and several big editions in Holland. 2011 was the year Headhunterz released his album ‘Sacrifice,’ from which he donated all earnings to Dance 4 life, a charity organization raising awareness for HIV and AIDS. His track ‘Dragonborn,’ which was given away for free, became a huge online hit and proved that Headhunterz has one of the most strong and dedicated online fan bases in the EDM community.
In 2012 Headhunterz release his chart-topping remix of Kaskade ft. Neon Trees’ ‘Lessons in Love,’ and his successful remixes of Hardwell’s ‘Spaceman,’ Zedd’s ‘Spectrum’ and Nicky Romero’s ‘Toulouse.’ It was also the year where he rose to an astonishing 11th place in the DJ Mag Top 100, after which he celebrated with a sold out show in the brand new Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam. Having signed a new record deal with Ultra Music at the beginning of the year, 2013 proved to be the most interesting year yet for Headhunterz. Amongst his greatest appearances are Q-dance presents: Headhunterz—Hard With Style show, performances at various editions of Qlimax, Defqon.1 Festival, Electric Daisy Carnival and Decibel Outdoor Festival, along with Headhunterz branded X-Qlusive event in the Heineken Music Hall in 2010, all of which were sold out shows.
Exclusive Personal Interview with Headhunterz
2013 was an incredible year for you, yet 2014 has started just where you left off, tearing up the world’s dance floors. Talk us through the history of ‘Breakout,’ the single you created with Audiofreq. “Back in December, Bass Events asked Sam and me to produce the anthem for Reverze, which took place on February 22nd. Working together with Sam was great, but the more we got into the production, the more we asked ourselves whether the 7 | Q-dance Magazine
track would fit as an anthem. In their right, Bass Events didn’t want a too experimental track as an anthem, which I completely understand. Also, the vocals didn’t quite fit and the track would become too ‘forced.’ After a discussion it was decided that Sam would produce the event’s anthem and we’d finish the track as a single together. We did however premier Breakout on Reverze. That really was an awesome moment. It came together as a track we both like and get psyched about.”
Audiofreq has admitted you are a musical hero of his, what are his qualities that helped you want to work with him?
Where are some of the stand out gigs you are looking forward to in 2014?
“Sam’s album ‘Audioception’ is easily the hardstyle album of 2013. He doesn’t work per a standard formula and his experimentation with different styles has brought some great tracks. Also, he’s just crazy and serious at the same time. I love working with him.”
“This may sound cliché, but I really look forward to all of them. Whether it’s a massive festival like EDC Mexico or an intimate club gig, all have their charm and not one set is the same.”
“We see ‘Breakout’ as a bit of a revolt against the onslaught of raw hardstyle?” “While I do admit I think the current music coming out is getting a bit repetitive, Breakout did not come together as a revolt to the onslaught of raw hardstyle. We just started working on something and this is where it brought us.”
Heady: “These are some of the tracks I like to play, in no particular order.” • Crystal Lake—Welcome to the Zoo
How long did it take to create the record and was it a smooth process?
• Rebourne—Trigger
“A smooth process? Haha, most definitely not! We worked on it constantly and it took us 1/1,5 month to finish it. There was a point at which we both though “what did we do? Why did we make this so complex and complicated for ourselves?” Thoughts like “will this even work?” or “Will this be a good enough follow up for my last release?” did enter our minds. But we stepped over our fears, continued the work and we both love the result.”
• Headhunterz & TNT—Skincolors (Wildstylez Mashup)
Who are some of the Hardstyle producers you are giving high fives to at the moment? “Audiofreq, Wildstylez, Noisecontrollers and Rebourne!”
• Mako—Our Story (Audiotricz Bootleg)
• Headhunterz & Audiofreq—Breakout
• Geck-o—It's What We Are (Headhunterz Edit) • Headhunterz & Brennan Heart—The MF Point Of Perfection • Audiofreq—Warcry • Audiotricz ft. John Harris—Momentum
Are there plans to collaborate in the future? “For Sam and me? Who know what the future will bring. In the near future there will be an Audiofreq track out on HARD with STYLE on April 21st called ‘Warcry.’ It’s an awesome reverse bass dance floor killer.” Away from dance music, who are some of the artists you are into right now? “I have the Flume Deluxe album on repeat. That guy nailed it, it’s one of those albums you just keep putting on and suits all different kinds of moods.”
Your 2014 resolution was to ‘celebrate life.’ So what changes have you done to your life make this year a happier year? And finally, what is coming out next from you studio wise? “I’m not letting any negativity get in the way of what I do. This keeps me focused and that much happier. Working out a lot and meditation brings me that same focus. A healthy body is a happy mind. As far as any future endeavors go, just follow and see.”
You have some of the most protective, outspoken fans in the world, comments such as… “make a track for us that will leave all the haters in awe” are not uncommon. So for the thousands of readers around the world just getting into Hardstyle, what are your thoughts on your scene today. Is it healthy, what direction is it heading? “Fans in the hardstyle scene are very passionate. If you’re new to the scene, the music may sound a little aggressive at first. But once you visited an event you’ll see its great energy and positive vibes. People can forget about everyday worries. I don’t have a glass bowl, but what I do see is that the scene in the US and South America is growing with an enormous pace. From a music perspective I feel we all should keep an open mind and keep experimenting. The standard formula has been done too often and I think for all artists to keep it interesting to go back to the studio every day with passion, it’s important to break some boundaries. Personally I just want to make music which I like and like to play. That’s my only direction.” North America | 8

f you ask the average hardcore head to name the first artist that pops into his mind, they will almost certainly mention the name ‘Angerfist.’ A phenomenon and a true legend who has been the world’s leading hardcore act for almost ten years now.
Founded at the dawn of the millennium, Angerfist was exactly what the scene needed at the time. Danny Masseling was only 16 years old when he first acquired a taste for music production in 1997. He had been working on his productions determinedly and after sending a demo out to BZRK Records, Mark Vos contacted him to about his work. After a substantial amount of time spent on mastering and editing, BZRK033 was born. Under the alias Menace II Society, the “Son of a Bitch” EP entered the market. Around the same time, the first Angerfist EP was released on Overload Records. However, even though the track “Chronic Disorder,” made Menace II Society a well known name, Angerfist was the alias that would soon become the biggest name in the scene. Tracks such as “Criminally Insane” and “Fuck Off ” were immediately recognized as relatively big hits. After releasing an EP under the third alias Kid Morbid, he chose Angerfist to be his main project. Still excited about this sudden rush of records and the enthusiastic hardcore fans, Angerfist continued producing and releasing tracks. In 2003, the “Sons of Satan” EP was released on Masters of Hardcore Records. The idea of bringing the Angerfist act to parties would soon become a reality. The hard and gabber beats, along with hockey masks and hooded sweatshirts, made the Angerfist image an instant success. A year of parties and performances went by, as Masseling worked on a record that would turn out to become his biggest hit; in 2004, the “Raise Your Fist” EP was released. Angerfist continued to enhanced the scene as he released three record-breaking albums throughout his career so far: Pissin’ Razorbladez came out in 2006, Mutilate in 2008 and his most recent album Retaliate, came out in 2011. These works unquestionably shine in the collections of all hardcore junkies and have had a substantial influence in elevating the hardcore sound to the place where it stands today. Angerfist has been dominating the Masters of Hardcore (MOH) Hardcore Top 100, by winning the number one position four times in a row. Angerfist’s 34th spot in the 2013 DJ MAG Top 100 is yet another example of his immense success and dedicated fan base, as he is the only hardcore DJ to ever make the list. With a passionate drive to spread the hardcore virus, Angerfist is destined for a promising future of epic and destructive beats.

X-QLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH ZANY
Fusion Record’s leading man Zany barely needs introduction. This hardstyle pioneer has been on top of his game for over a decade. Zany’s signature of raw melodic hardstyle has taken him to perform all around the globe, being able to spread the infamous ‘Fusion of Sound’ across the world. Zany always tries to evolve and create new music that makes him one of a kind. The ‘Godfather of Fusion’ is ready to take it to the next level!
What is your most memorable experience from your X-Qlusive? I was the first artist with two editions of X-Qlusive, one in Holland and one in Belgium. This was really amazing. In Amsterdam it gave me goosebumps when I got on stage. It was great to see all these people waiting for Zany! In Belgium I had the opportunity to enter the stage with a limousine. That was awesome!
Can you tell us a little bit about your XQ? Theme, trailer, artwork, stage etc? The artwork ill never get out of my memory. It was a giant screaming Zany head! The stage was a giant lab where I was some kind of professor. The coolest thing about the artwork was that it really showed us the Zany and Fusion identity with all these lightning. After this edition of Xqlusive, the big banner was a part of my studio for 7 years. It was a trophee, a symbol to all the things I have achieved throughout the years. I still tell people that this was one of the greatest nights in my career!
Can you tell something about how the evening was programmed music wise? I love all kinds of music and Trance is one of these genres that give me inspiration. This is why I decided to start the night with some trancy music, followed with early hardstyle stuff, hardstyle and hardcore. The most special part of the night was our unique LIVE act together with Showtek. It was called “The Donkeytek Show.” Maybe we should do this again.
Was it difficult to choose the artists on the line-up? It wasn’t difficult at all, because all the people on the line up were close friends, artists I collaborated with and Fusion colleagues. It was really fun to have them playing at my own X-Qlusive and I am still thankful that they made this night this special and awesome!

X-QLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH NOISECONTROLLERS
Noisecontrollers is a hard dance act run by producer Bas Oskam. For nearly a decade, Noisecontrollers has been one of the leading acts in the Hardstyle genre hitting all major stages around the world. With an intense passion for music, Noisecontrollers, produces new music at conveyor belt pace. His success is built on his extraordinary talent for producing music with creativity and passion that is incomparable to any other. Perpetually looking for new and different sounds and styles, he pioneers in creating innovative music, always on top of the scene.
What is your most memorable experience from your X-Qlusive? “Without a doubt, it was me and Arjan descending from the roof of the Heineken Music Hall at X-Qlusive Noisecontrollers. What an entrance!”
Can you tell us a little bit about your XQ? Theme, trailer, artwork, stage, etc? “It was all about gravity. Making the hit ‘So High’ the perfect theme song. Everything was floating. Q-dance did an amazing job at bringing that all these elements together.”
What was your biggest hit at that time? “Like mentioned above that was ‘Noisecontrollers—So High.’”
Did you go to other XQ editions? Which one(s) did you like the best and why? “My first edition was X-Qlusive Zany. Zany invited us personally and it was the first time I got to have a view from the stage. After that I attended all X-Qlusives. They are always great and special to me.”

X-QLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH THE PROPHET
Hardstyle and hardcore pioneer The Prophet has traveled the world for 25 years, performing at parties such as Tomorrowland, Qlimax, EDC Las Vegas, Thunderdome, TomorrowWorld and Defqon.1. He is the founder of leading hardstyle label Scantraxx, which gave rise to the success of many artists, including Headhunterz and Wildstylez. His music is being played and loved by the biggest names both in and outside the hardstyle scene. Unlike his alias suggests, The Prophet doesn’t pass on musical messages; he creates them!
What is your most memorable experience from your X-Qlusive? The moment I had to climb into the roof of the Heineken Music Hall and I had to walk over all these very narrow steel bars up there with like 6000 people beneath me!
Can you tell us a little bit about your XQ? Theme, trailer, artwork, stage etc? When I was very young (like 100 years ago) my BIG brother always read Marvel and DC comics, so I got involved too. I really wanted to get my own “Marvel Prophet” design. Q-dance arranged this for me and it turned out facking good if I may say.
How did you prepare for an XQ solo? I didn’t, I just did what I always did, my best and everything with passion and love for the music.
You have been working the harder scene for a long time now. Does a performance like a solo X-Qlusive still make you nervous? It did do something with me yeah, the party is all about you. So yeah, it felt like a sort of pressure. When I look back the night was over before I even knew!
