WELCOME Firstly I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the RVT Isuzu team in winning the Region 2 Dealer of the Year at the Isuzu conference, this shows the great dedication from the team and gives great customer reassurance when purchasing an Isuzu pick-up.
On pages 17 and 19 customers have kindly talked about their experiences purchasing with RVT and it is nice to see the RVT team are going above and beyond to serve our customers with aftersales parts, servicing and precision ag technologies, it is great testimony to the entire team.
The long awaited summer months and shows are underway. It is nice to meet people face-to-face and we welcome you to join us for a few refreshments on our stand at the shows throughout the year.
In the Gardening and Groundcare section the Stihl demonstration days offered customers a hands on experience to try out the powerful cordless battery AP range, see how they got on, on page 21. There is also still time to get your ride-on mower serviced our horticultural technicians will be available to carry out servicing and repairs throughout the summer.

RVT Precision (pages 22-25) have had a busy few months with plenty of precision installs on a variety of machines. It will be interesting to see the impact variable rate fertiliser application with variable seed rate trials according to soil type has on harvest yields later in the year. Finally I would like to wish everyone the best for the coming season, please contact your nearest RVT depot and the RVT team will be on hand to offer any support throughout the busy harvest season.

LESS POWER REQUIRED FOR GREATER OUTPUT • A seed drill that is easy to pull to save on fuel. • A universal seed drill that works with precision at high speeds. The CROSSFLEX coulter bar places each seed exactly where it should go at speeds of up to 17kph. • A seed drill that is easy to maintain and quickly adjustable. With its simplified structure, compatibility with ISOBUS solutions and easy settings, the ESPRO seed drill never stays still for long.
Offset wheels with perfectly square profile The packer wheels are offset 200mm front to rear, which eliminates the bulldozing effect: Soil does not accumulate in front of the wheel row. The drill is prevented from bouncing and seed delivery is regular. The tyres have a square profile which ensures uniform consolidation of the whole tyre width and on each seeding row. Deep treads crumble the earth to create a fine surface tilth. Large diameter and narrow wheels The 900mm packer-wheel diameter reduces rolling resistance and therefore the power required to pull the machine compared to smaller wheels. A width of 210mm and 85mm gap creates excellent soil and residue flow. The infiltration zone is also larger so soil erosion is reduced. Six independent working sections ensure regular crop emergence in any conditions, ploughed or mintilled land, with direct seeding or residues. All machine elements work independently.

Benefit from a row of front packer wheels, track-eradicators and a levelling bar, as an option. This equipment provides good soil-surface levelling before the two rows of working discs do their job, contributing to fuel savings and preventing the drill from sinking into light soils.
Two rows of working discs open and mix the soil at the front of ESPRO seed drills to ensure that residue is well incorporated into the surface layers. The 460mm disc diameter helps to create a fine tilth. The concave shape of the discs makes them effective in heavy soils.
Seed to soil contact and consistent seeding depth are vital to ensure uniform germination and crop establishment. ESPRO seed drills have a row of press wheels behind the working discs, each one of which consolidates the soil ahead of two seeding units.
The ESPRO universal seed drill features the CROSSFLEX coulter bar which provides uniform seeding depth in virtually all conditions and working speeds. The seeding units are mounted on a specially profiled bar on rubber blocks.
Press wheels boost the transfer of humidity to the seed by capillary action. They also ensure seed to soil contact behind the seeding unit.
The covering harrow effectively covers each seed with soil. It also creates a loose soil surface to limit slaking which would inhibit seeding emergence.
NEW STRIGER 100 STRIP TILL THE BENCHMARK FOR STRIP-TILL Available from 4 to 12 rows, the STRIGER 100 is the benchmark for strip-till. It prepares the seeding line ready for planting crops in rows. In the row, you benefit from a soil preparation, just like a conventional machine and in the inter-row, you capitalise on the advantages of direct seeding while preserving a cover of residue. Organic matter and moisture are stored in the inter-row. The seed strip is warmed to give a quick start to the plants. The STRIGER 100 is distinguished by its simple and reproducible adjustments of the debris clearers, the working depth and the press wheel. Each element is independent of the others thanks to the parallelogram system which ensures excellent ground following. The STRIGER 100 offers great adaptability to all conditions of use: Liquid, solid or slurry fertiliser applications; Different inter-row widths; A wide choice of working parts and equipment; Several frames available: 3 m, 3.50 m, 4.40 m and 6 m.
With the STRIGER 100, the potential of the field is maintained while preserving soil life, limiting erosion and reducing the surface worked by 80%.

TILLY TRAILER CERTIFICATE DOES YOUR TRAILER PASS THE TEST? It is a legal requirement under PUWER 98 Regulations for agricultural trailers to be in roadworthy condition, well maintained and in good working order with records of maintenance held by the owner. The Tilly Trailer Pass ensures trailers are maintained to the legal standard. An annual 18 point inspection is carried out by authorised technicians. WHAT FUEL CAN YOU PUT IN YOUR TRACTOR? COULD ALTERNATIVE FUELS REDUCE OPERATING COSTS With the prospect of fuel prices not coming down any time soon customers are looking at alternative fuels in an attempt to reduce their operating costs, but the issue of suitability is the question customers are asking. What can I pour into my John Deere and what can’t I put in it? Here we list the options available currently that would go into your tractor. BS 2869, “red diesel” This is the traditional fuel for use in agricultural machinery. BS2869 is the British standard for Grade A2 gas oil that you put in your tractors, harvesters etc. It has a low sulphur content (10ppm) and is for use in modern diesel engines that adhere to Tier 3, 4 and 5 emissions regulations. EN590, “white diesel” or DERV This is a European standard for fuel used in road going vehicles, sometimes known as ultra-low sulphur diesel (ULSD), and this is what you buy at the pumps to put in your car, van or lorry. EN590 exceeds BS2869, all diesel engines in Europe are designed to run on fuel of this standard. This fuel, when bought at the pumps, will also have a B designation indicating it is blended with bio-diesel, so an EN590 fuel with a B7 designation will contain 7% bio fuel. In BS 2869 the bio content is optional, so the bio content can be from 0% up to 7%.
EN15940 HVO This is a European standard for a paraffinic fuel that originates from the Hydrotreatment of Vegetable Oil. It is made from vegetable oils such as rapeseed, soy beans, non-food oils or used cooking oils. It is becoming popular as an alternative to traditional fuels as a way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It can be blended with traditional fuels, and has good long term storage stability. Can you put in your tractor? All the above fuels will go into your John Deere, currently you will be putting BS2869 in or EN590 if you are hauling on the road. EN14214 will be in fuels currently so you will be using it already in small amounts. EN15940, HVO will go straight in to your tractor, without modification BUT John Deere state... “This fuel is not biodiesel, but renewable diesel fuel as it meets EN15940; it is a hydrocarbon fuel made from renewable sources. We allow its use up to 100%, except on Stage V engines operated in the EU”. In short the engine will run ok on it but because the engine hasn’t been tested to Tier V, to comply with emission regs, on this type of fuel, then they won’t approve it.
EN14214 BIO DIESEL This is fuel derived from vegetable oils or animal fats and is mixed with petroleum diesel, on a volume basis up to 7%. In Europe Bio diesel must meet European standard EN14214, and is the bio constituent that goes into EN590B7, but this fuel is not without it’s downsides. It can;• Accelerate oxidation in various components of the fuel system. • Free water may result in filter blocking or increased bacterial growth. • Can react to gaskets, seals, plastics and rubber of fuel lines. • Can result in fuel leakage and dilution of the engine oil. • Can degrade over time if left in machines that are used seasonally, combines and foragers spring to mind. Fuel conditioners are available at RVT to counter this.

Dave Johnson farms a 380 dairy herd on 550 acres with his wife, family and four full time staff near Bridgnorth. The farm has 70 acres of maize and 55 acres of wholecrop wheat and they forage their own silage. Included in the fleet of machinery are four John Deere tractors, a JCB, a Ford Tractor and a gator. “We purchased new blades for our Shelbourne Reynolds feeder wagon from David Barker, RVT Field Parts Advisor at a great price and we are pleased with the fodder results. Biosoild cake is a nutrient-rich sustainable fertiliser for farmers. The farm combines maize and 120 hectares forage maize for a digester. INTRODUCTION Hello and welcome to our Precision Ag section. By now all spring planting and field operations have been completed and the crops are growing nicely. During the spring we have seen many planters utilising section control to help save on seed and other fertilisers, such as liquid fertiliser, to increase efficiency, especially with the increasing input prices. Another piece of technology we find customers like is the ability to record varieties during planting. This can be uploaded to the Operations Centre and stored for future use, information such as an area of the field planted or the split of each variety across the field becomes useful not only as a digital diary but can also be used during the season to look back on. The Operations Centre has recently had some updates which we have briefly covered on page 23.

We have seen some interesting agronomic trials, something which I am a big believer in because customers now have the ability to record as applied information. This information can be used to analyse the effect certain operations have had on yield and this data can then be used to analyse and plan for the following year helping to increase overall agronomic productivity. An example of this is on a maize planter which we installed a liquid fertiliser kit and John Deere rate controller to, for accurate application. We undertook some trails with variable rate fertiliser applications and then combined this with variable rate seed at the same time. Then using the 7 years of yield data to see where the consistently low and high yielding areas were we made adjustments to suit, all the data will be recorded during harvest so that in the autumn we can directly compare the impact variable rate fertiliser application with variable seed
At time of writing this our technical specialist Carl is busy fitting a drainage system onto a Shelton trencher to control the depth when installing drains in the field, and also by adding GPS to the tractor it enables the tractor to work at slow speeds as low as 80m/hour, a full review on this install will follow.

PLANTING ACCORDING TO SOIL TYPE
RVT Precision visited a John Deere tractor using implement guidance on a potato ridger to keep constant even rows on undulating uneven ground. The receiver is fixed to the headstock and shares RVT RTK signal with the tractor keeping the ridger in line with up to a 30cm left or right adjustment running on the new type of John Deere application controller. The destoner and planter will also be on implement guidance so that all implements follow the same path giving complete consistency throughout the potato growing process.
RVT Precision visited James Heath planting potatoes according to the soil type in a field in Shropshire. He mapped the field using SoilQuest for soil mapping and then used ‘prescription creator’ in MyJohnDeere to produce a soil types map of the field. The information was fed to the Grimme planter which then adjusted the spacing between the tubers when planting, tubers were planted closer together in heavier soils to hopefully increase yields in these areas of the field and by using an as applied map of the Liquid, using ISOBUS, James was able to apply variable rate fertiliser, applying more or less liquid fertiliser to the variable rate of potato seed planted.
By mounting the controller to the La Forge headstock it also gives flexibility to move the implement with ease from machine to machine. For more details on implement guidance please contact the RVT Precision team 01743 289100.

Now crops are growing and taking up moisture the customers who irrigate are studying the forecast for rain, as rainfall seems to be quite localised and customers are farming in a greater radius the need to access local weather information becomes more useful. With the aid of Pessl Instruments we can offer a range of low cost weather stations which give you hourly updates of multiple sensor readings with the information all viewable on the MyJohnDeere platform, holding all the data in one place.

1. Land – Merge fields easier in Land You can now merge all field data, boundaries, guidance lines, and flags into one field in the Land tool. When merging fields, start by clicking on a field to be merged, then click the merge button in the top right corner. Next, select the fields you would like to merge in the “before merge” step. Then select the field you would like to keep as the primary field with the “after merge” step. Click the yellow merge button to complete the process. 2. Land – View only The Land tools now feature a view-only access level. Now view field details in Land and export field information. 3. Products Tool – New look and feel Similar, easy to identify

Quickly understand productivity for the day, machine, and field and harvesting throughput Farms that run using John Deere Operations Center mobile get more hectares done per day. Productivity will now be shown for the day, the machine, and the field. As we know that everyone measures productivity differently, Operations Center mobile provides three new measures – speed, area and throughput. Select the measures according to your needs and see the information at the top of the machine in the map view and in the machine detail card. Understand a smaller section of the field with mobile zone analysis You can scout fields better than just out the window, on the gravel. John Deere Operations Center mobile gives you information about every inch of your field with zone analysis on the go when being in the field. Right after emergence or after the field has been harvested, you will know more than just field totals. It will change the way you think about analyzing your fields instantly. Using this tool will make better decisions for springtime, ultimately setting you up for higher yields and a higher bottom line. You can now better know your yield potential for the following: area, yield, and moisture plus varieties and rate.

Field Analyzer – Performance data in reports In Field Analyzer you now have the performance data from your machine available in the field report. The machine data from the machines that were working in that field is printed on the pdf file. This also applies to the Analyze tool for the reports you generate there. In Analyze it is even possible to create several reports with one click. Now we have machine and agronomic data in one pdf file. It makes it a lot easier and convenient to create files in Analyze or Field Analyzer. Field Analyzer – Delete work records Delete work records of a field. The layer is deleted immediately throughout John Deere Operations Center. The delete functionality makes it easier to keep your data clean and accurate.

Over the future months and into next year a new system will be introduced to make filling your sprayer, faster, safer and easier. The easy connect system was demonstrated at LAMMA 2022 in May and has been support by industry leading crop protection manufacturers so that in the future a wide range of liquid products will be equipped with the easy connect cap. The CTS system consists of two components the unique cap pre-fitted to containers and a coupler fitted to the sprayer. Together, they can save you time and effort filling your sprayer, while significantly reducing operator exposure and the risk of spills. Find out more at easyconnect.tech.
3 NRoSO Points when you get your sprayer tested with RVT PRECISION The legal requirements included in the Sustainable Use Directive (SUD) requires all pesticide application equipment (PAE) to be tested. Boom sprayers over 3 metres wide, air blast sprayers first test due before it is 5 years old. All sprayers over 5 years old must have been tested within the last 3 years and then re-test every 3 years. Boom sprayers 3 meters and under and other types of PAE including slug pellet applicators, micro-granular applicators, weed wipers, seed treatment and other specialist application equipment. First test due before the machine is 5 years old and re-test every 6 years. Knapsack, hand held and pedestrian equipment must be checked on a regular basis, making regular repairs as necessary, keep a record of the inspection - a knapsack checklist is available from the NSTS website at: nsts.org.uk.
