Many people will see a tarot reader, sometimes as a last resort in desperation to try and get back some control within the current problem that they find themselves in.
We have an ethical responsibility as tarot readers to not pull ‘fictions’ out of thin air, making predictions that may potentially lead your clients down ‘unforgiving’ detrimental paths.
We are not supposed to be directing the lives of our clients. They are the CEO of their soul’s journey, Earthside. They are the expert of their experience.
And it’s our role to support our clients to empower their lives to create the positive changes they want to create.
Therapeutic tarot is a way of reading that moves beyond fortune telling into the realm of psychology, psychotherapy, and counselling.
Many psychotherapists all over the world, have a deck of tarot cards or two and will use them in their practice.
A skilled tarot therapist will counsel their client, utilising skills like active listening, paraphrasing, and reflecting their client’s emotional content; they act as a mirror.
Tarot therapy has amazing ways of making the unconscious (what is hidden and repressed) conscious (insights you become aware of), the implicit explicit, the covert overt.
It enables the therapist and the client to uncover blind spots and new ways of perceiving and resolving current challenges, limitations or blocks the client may be creating, through soul’s journey in this lifetime, here Earthside.
Your role as a tarot therapist is to listen, reflect and ask questions that provide rich answers, that will help your client become clearer, assisted by the faciliatory, psychological and archetypal ‘rites of passage’ of the 78 cards of the tarot.
The 78 rites of passage are patterns of experiences that we all experience in our lifetime, the fates in our lives that we can’t escape, like death, sacrifices, motherhood, fatherhood etc.
However, your clients do have free will.
Not every reading will eventuate, as you are reading the energy of the moment and the probable outcome of that moment based on your clients’ feelings, thoughts, behaviours, choices, and actions.
Your clients reserve the right to change paths as many times as they damn well like!
Your soul is here to have experiences, not seek perfection.
You were born Earthside to experience this incredible planet, and to evolve, grow and become more of who you are.
You’re expanding the universe through your creative journey.
And the most successful readings are those where you have developed rapport with your clients to explore this way of being.
You’re in dialogue together, it’s a collaboration with soul and the creator as the guide.
And this style of reading moves away from the monologue (talking at your client), to inviting and including your client in the conversation, after all, they are the expert of their experience and their inner reality. As readers we are literally holding space for our clients to empower their life.
We have an ethical responsibility to support our clients to learn how to trust themselves to create a future that they want and need, and to confirm what they already know and who they know they are becoming.
Tarot is a poetic journey, into the landscape of the soul, a private space and intimate space.
Clinical professionals often perceive human beings in the context of ‘pathology’ and ‘diagnosis’ and assuming that problems are intrinsic to the individual, and the individual needs fixing.
I like to remind my clients, that you yourself are not the problem, the problem is the problem.
Read that again.
This is a philosophy, and you are a valuable soul who stands outside of the problem, who is unique, special and deserving of the life you dream of leading.
Therapeutic tarot moves beyond fortune telling, into the heart-to-heart connection between your client and their true purpose. And as a tarot therapist, it’s an incredible privilege to facilitate this life-changing experience for my soul mate clients.
