Longtime dispatcher honored

LOCAL ARTS SCENE

Berlin Police Department dispatcher Thomas Farr was called upon to do a great deal of work in late 2021, and his efforts did not go unnoticed. He was named Farr the Berlin PD’s “Employee of the Quarter” for the fourth quarter of 2021.

Photography by Berlin resident Dan Butler will be on display at Provision State Coffee, 848 Farmington Ave., next month. The exhibit opens Saturday, Feb. 5, and runs through Saturday, Feb. 26. A meet and greet with the photographer will take place on Feb. 5, 9 a.m. to noon. The exhibit features landscape photographs taken by Butler along the Connecticut River; at the Nuble Lighthouse in York, Maine; and at Topsail Beach, North Carolina, as well as aerial shots of Hartford and Middletown. Provision State Coffee is open Tuesday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Spring dedication for Gold Star monument Citizen report

This spring, one year after breaking ground, the Connecticut Gold Star Families Memorial Monument will be dedicated. A celebration marking the structure’s completion is scheduled for Saturday, April 23 at 1 p.m. The public is invited to attend. Located at Veterans Memorial Park in Berlin, the monument honors Gold Star Families and the legacy of their loved ones who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the United States military. A 2021 press release from the Berlin Veterans Commission states, “[T]he

black granite monument features two sides. One side bears the words: Gold Star Families Memorial Monument, a tribute to Gold Star Families and Relatives who have sacrificed a Loved One for our Freedom. The other side tells a story through the four granite panels: Homeland, Family, Patriot, and Sacrifice.
