Timberlin golfers tee it up in Feb. for the first time By Everett Bishop The Citizen

For the first time in its 50year history, Timberlin Golf Course opened in February. Mild winter temperatures allowed the municipal course to open from Feb. 22 to 26. According to head golf professional Marc Bayram, the course had never opened before March. Timberlin’s official opening day is slated for Saturday, March 7, with a ceremony at 10 a.m.

Dry course conditions also contributed to the early opening, Bayram noted. A report on Golf.com states that golfers from “Ohio to New York” were able to play as early as December. “We sent an email out, put it on social media that we were opening and we sold out within 24 hours,” Bayram said. “We had 144 players … I had a wait list of 10 groups that I couldn’t do anything with.” See Timberlin, A17

Annunziata leaves Police Commission, new member appointed By Devin Leith-Yessian The Citizen

The Town Council recently appointed Melissa Urrunaga to fill a vacancy on the Police Commission. The vote to appoint Urrunaga, a Democrat, was unani-

mous. Councilor Michael Urrunaga, her husband, abstained. The new appointee replaces Democrat Joseph Annunziata, who resigned on Jan. 17 after some 15 years on the commission.

Urrunaga’s term runs until the next municipal election in 2021. She was not available for comment. Councilor JoAnn AngelicoStetson said she was happy to nominate Urrunaga, partly to bring diversity to the

all-male Police Commission. “She’s very well qualified, she’s a social worker with the Department of Children and Families, she serves with the court as a co-liaison. She’s well versed in respect to areas of criminal

justice and she’s got extensive experience in that field,” Stetson said. Police Commission Chairperson Paul Eshoo agreed. “She knows stuff about law so that’s good. She can be an asset,” he said.
