Longtime agent brings industry know-how to new insurance venture
By Nicole Zappone The Citizen
After spending many years working for insurance giant Allstate, Sam Kader felt he knew the industry well enough to go it alone. So he did.
Kader Insurance Agency, lo cated at 859 Mill St., held its official grand opening on Sept. 16. The company aims to find clients the best deals on various forms of insur
ance coverage: auto, proper ty, boat, pet; the list goes on.
Kader Insurance Agency ac tually opened back in March of 2021, but its proprietor, a longtime resident of Berlin, wanted to get the business up and running before hold ing any type of celebration.
Mr. Kader said he moved on from Allstate in order to pre sent insurance shoppers with more options.

Nov. 11: A day to honor veterans
The following was published in the RecordJournal on Nov. 11, 2013:
At the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918, an armistice went into effect, ending The Great War be tween the Allied Powers (predominantly Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy and the United States) and the Central Powers (Germany, the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria). In 1926, the United States Congress called
upon the nation to mark, each Nov. 11, "the cessation of the most destructive, sanguinary, and far reaching war in hu man annals and the resumption by the people of the United States of peaceful re lations with other nations, which we hope may never again be severed ..." In other words, Armistice Day was created mainly as a day to celebrate the peace and hope that it would last.

Interact students unite at Canadian conference
Press Release
Interact clubs bring young people, age 12 to 18, togeth er to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of Service Above Self. Interact clubs are sponsored by local Rotary clubs, and one of the most ambitious
Rotary-Interact initiatives, the Zone 28 & 32 Interact Convention, is a new fourday conference which aims to bring together American, Bermudan, Canadian, and French Interact students to build a cross-border com munity of peers.
Berlin High School sopho more John Platt participated in the convention, and was the only student selected to participate from the local Rotary District.
Platt is the Sophomore Rep resentative in the BHS Inter act Club and is involved in a division of Boy Scouts called the Order of the Arrow, where he serves as a Camp Chief and Section Secretary. Platt’s trip to the Zone 28 &
32 Interact Convention was sponsored by the New Britain-Berlin and Kensing ton-Berlin Rotary clubs.
Over the course of four days, passionate Interactors joined together in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and through inter active sessions and highprofile speakers, explored topics of resilience, the ne cessity of youth leadership in our ever-changing world, and the power of collabora tion to tackle global issues.
“I hope oth ers within the district and commu nity take ad vantage of leadership opportuni ties like this not just to benefit themselves, but rather the world,” said Platt.
Using the new skills he learned, Platt is planning on developing new internation al and local projects for the community’s Rotary and In teract clubs.
Also, he is hoping to plan events and unify all Rotary and Interact clubs within the district.
Additionally, Platt is striving to be on the planning com mittee for the next Interact convention in 2024.

It didn't. "The war to end all wars" would turn out to be just a prelude to World War II the biggest, most de structive war in human his tory and to the many re gional wars that have fol lowed it. In 1954, in the wake of World War II and Korea, Armistice Day be
came Veterans Day, in honor of American veterans of all wars. In 1968, the obser vance was moved to a Mon day, but a few states refused to follow suit, causing confu sion. In 1978, it was moved back to Nov. 11, where it re mains to this day. Back in 1918, President Woodrow Wilson had proposed his idealistic Fourteen Points, including the creation of a League of Nations to oversee
the resolution of the dis putes that had led to the war, and to build a lasting peace. Sadly, Wilson's allies instead demanded draconi an punishments and war reparations from Germany conditions that would con tribute greatly to the rise of the Nazis and his own country rejected the League.
The Department of Veterans Affairs notes that there is sometimes confusion be tween Veterans Day and Memorial Day.
Veterans Day honors veter ans of all wars in which the U.S. has fought. Memorial Day, which originally hon ored those killed in the Civil War, is now a day when the American dead of all wars are remembered.
The American Legion re minds us that Veterans Day is a time to honor all of the men and women who have served in our armed forces: "Not all veterans have seen war, but a common bond that they share is an oath in which they expressed their willingness to die defending this nation." The VFW points out that we now lose more veterans to suicide at home than we lose on the battlefield in Afghanistan, and calls on the nation not just Congress and the VA, but individual Americans as well to do more to help veterans over come their injuries, both physical and mental, when they come home.
and speeches are fine, but that would be a way of truly honoring the vets.

Insurance
“When you only work at one insurance agency, and your clients aren’t happy, you are not able to offer them other companies,” said Kader, who has spent some 16 years in the insurance business.
Kader attended the Univer sity of Texas and studied en gineering. After college, he moved to Connecticut and worked in architectural de sign. But when the company he was employed by was sold, Kader said he "decided to pursue other careers.”
In the late 80s, Kader bought the 7-Eleven on New Britain Road, near the Berlin-New Britain border. After selling the store, which he had run with his broth er, Kader’s long career in in surance was set in motion.
Currently, Kader Insurance Agency consists of its name sake and one part-time em ployee, but Mr. Kader is looking to expand his team.
“We’re excited about Sam Kader opening a business in Berlin,” Economic Develop ment Director Chris Edge said. “From retail to service, his expertise is wonderful to have in town.”
Oh Most beautiful Flower of Mt. Carmel, Fruitful Vine, Splendor of Heaven. Blessed Mother of the Son of God, Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. Oh Star of the Sea, help me and show me that you are my Mother. Oh Holy Mary Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth, I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to succor me in my necessity (make request). There are none that can withstand your power. Oh Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3 times). Holy Mary, I place this cause in your hands (3 times). Say this prayer for 3 consecutive days and then you must publish it and it will be granted to you.
Grateful thanks. C.S.
John Diakun, M.S. Audiologist
Local officials helped Sam Kader celebrate the opening of his insurance business on Friday, Sept. 16.
Kader Insurance Agency can be reached at 860-7706555 and found online at kaderinsurance.com.
