BIRTHDAY GATHERING

COPING WITH COVID-19

Faith community carries on with services, support By Joy VanderLek The Cheshire Citizen

Cheshire, like many towns, has many houses of worship. There’s Temple Beth David, the First Congregational Church, Cheshire Lutheran Church, Oasis Church and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, among others. As the COVID-19 pandemic has required large gatherings to be curtained until further notice, these local churches have risen to the occasion.

Cheshire Lutheran Church Pastor David Rowold has moved church services online. Not able to meet under one roof, worship services are available on YouTube, with two services available on Sundays. Additionally, CLC has a bulletin online for those at home to follow along. From the Cheshire Lutheran Church website, Pastor Rowold’s message is clear: “We may not be able to be together in the same place

this Sunday, but we can still come together to hear the Word of the Lord and to receive His gifts of forgiveness and comfort in these difficult times. He is our refuge and strength who will not leave you or forsake you.” At Temple Beth David, Rabbi Micah Ellenson’s office is open. It’s game on for these families By Joy VanderLek The Cheshire Citizen

In these extraordinary days, an extraordinary birthday was celebrated in an extraordinary way. Elim Park resident Elaine Kuhrt celebrated her 94th birthday on Saturday. All across Cheshire, there are houses full of children, moms and dads, who because of the COVID-19 pandemic are together 24/ 7. They are staying safe and staying home. While the Cheshire Public Schools have gone to online instruction, there are still a

lot of hours in the day to fill. Most families are not used to being cooped up with one another at this level.
