During the July 11 Town Council meeting, the panel received an update on the Bartlem Park South project from Parks and Recreation Director John Gawlak. The town plans to turn the area into a multi-use recreation attraction with features such as athletic fields and a performance stage. The design phase of the park project is expected to conclude by fall. The project is overseen by an ad hoc committee of councilors, town officials and an engineering firm hired by the town, Weston & Sampson. The group expects to submit the plan to town boards, including to the Planning and Zoning Committee, by next month. The committee’s intent is to get the design phase wrapped up by the end of October.

Student wins national award for texting and driving PSA Press Release
A Cheshire Academy student recently won a national award for her video on texting and teen driving safety. Claire Carson, Class of 2023, earned first place in the public service announcement category of the "Just Drive PSA Video & Social Media Contest." She was awarded $5,000 from NJM Insurance Group, sponsors of the Impact Teen Drivers’ nationwide contest. Carson’s video, “Eyes on the Road,” prompts viewers to consider how often they receive text messages while driving.
Her video then transitions to car accidents with text messages showing up on the screen, reading “OK, drive safe and I’ll see you there,” and “Are you home okay?” Carson concludes her PSA with an eyeopening statistic: drivers are at least four times as likely to get into a motor vehicle crash when looking at a phone. A ceremony was held on the Cheshire Academy campus, July 7, that included Carson’s family, academy faculty and staff, and representatives from Impact Teen Drivers.
