Cheshire Academy to reduce tuition

Guided hike set for Oct. 17 By Joy VanderLek The Cheshire Citizen

The Coalition for a Sustainable Cheshire will host a hike on Prospect Ridge Sunday, Oct. 17, with Scott Ellis, Connecticut Forest and Park volunteer trail manager. Starting from the Prospect side of Cornwall Avenue, hikers will trek from the water towers at the trailhead to Roaring Brook Falls. After descending to the base, hikers will take shuttle vehicles back to the starting point. The Prospect Ridge trail, technically known as the Quinnipiac Trail, offers a different experience in every season, Ellis said. “In the spring and summer, you experience lush deciduous and conifer trees, streams, and valleys, all of which allows you to feel removed from See Hike, A2

Absentee voting has begun Absentee ballots are available for voters who won’t be able to vote in person, whether the absence is due to the voter being out of town, ill or disabled. Like last year’s election, COVID-19 is a valid reason for requesting an absentee ballot. Applications are available on the Secretary of the State’s website and from municipal clerks’ offices, and can be submitted in person, through the mail or in an election materials dropbox. Completed absentee ballots received after election day are not counted. Ballots must be received by the municipal clerk by 8 p.m. on Election Day.

“We are lowering our tuition to make Cheshire Academy accessible and affordable to more families. We are not — nor have we ever been — a school solely for the financial elite,” Head of School Julie Anderson said. The school offers grades 9 through 12 and postgraduate studies. Anderson said the school wants to foster a student body “that more accurately reflects the socioeconomic diversity students will encounter in college, in their communities, and in their workplaces.” Day tuition will be reduced from $42,320 to $29,850.
